Recently, electric power usages and peak loads from buildings are increasing due to higher outdoor air temperatures and/or abnormal climate during the summer period. As one of the eco-friendly measures, a renewable energy system has been received much attention. Particularly, interest on a photovoltaic (PV) system using solar energy has been rapidly increasing in a building sector due to its broad applicability. In using the PV system, one of important factors is the PV efficiency. The normal PV efficiency is determined based on the STC(Standard Test Condition) and the NOCT(Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) performance test. However, the actual PV efficiency is affected by the temperature change at the module surface. Especially, higher module temperatures generally reduce the PV efficiency, and it leads to less power generation from the PV system. Therefore, the analysis of the relation between the module temperature and PV efficiency is required to evaluate the PV performance during the summer period. This study investigates existing algorithms for calculating module surface temperatures and analyzes resultant errors with the algorithms by comparing the measured module temperatures.

This study aims to investigate advantages of complex installation of green roof and PV system in a public building, to analyze the impact of green roof on the efficiency of PV power generation, and to consider the correlation between green roof and PV power generation. When the temperature and power generation of the modules installed in the green roof and non-green roof of the public building were measured for 3 days, the average temperature of the green roof was 23.6 degrees, and it was 36.1 degrees in the non-green roof which increased by nearly 53%. Overall, the module temperature in the green roof was lower. On the other hand, in relation to the PV generation depending on temperature reduction during the same period, the mono-crystalline module and the poly-crystalline module in the green roof showed an increase in generation at nearly 222.2W and 341.6W, and the efficiency rose by 5.5% and 6.2%, respectively, compared to the modules in the non-green roof. Therefore, it is analyzed that green roof has a positive influence on PV power generation. Finally shows the efficiency of the installed on the Green Roof PV system (complex Installation) higher than on the concrete roof PV system. Thus, the complex PV systems as well as the usual benefits of green roofs will provide greater synergies.

Hybrid PV/Thermal systems consisting of photovoltaic module and thermal collector can produce the electricity and thermal energy. The solar radiation increases the temperature of PV modules, resulting in the decrease of their electrical efficiency. Accordingly hot air can be extracted from the space between the PV panel and roof, so the efficiency of the PV module increases. The extracted thermal energy can be used in several ways, increasing the total energy output of the system. This study describes a basic type of PV/T collector using water. In order to analyze the performance of the collector, the experiment was conducted. The result showed that the thermal efficiency was 17% average and the electrical efficiency of the PV module was about $10.2%{\sim}11.5%$, both depending on solar radiation, inlet water temperature and ambient temperature.

The efficiency of solar cell was about 4[%] in initial stage of photovoltaic industry, but it has quite a lot of efficiency through technology advances. Today, the efficiency of c-Si solar cells is about 17 to 19[%] and the efficiency of PV modules is about 14 to 15 [%]. We called that electrical losses occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules are CTM loss(Cell To Module loss), the CTM loss typically has a value of about3~5[%]. The more efficiency of solar cell increase, differences are larger because the efficiency decrease owing to physical or technical problems occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules. In this study, the power loss factors occurred in the Conversion of solar cells to PV modules are analyzed and it is proposed that how to reduce losses of the PV module. The types of power loss factor are (1)losses of front glass and encapsulant(generally EVA sheet), (2)losses by sorting miss, (3)losses by interconnection, (4)losses by the field aging of PV modules. In further study, experimental and evaluation will be conducted to make demonstrate for proposed solutions.

This paper proposes an automatic tracking control algorithm for efficiency improvement of photovoltaic generation. Increasing the power of PV systems should improve the efficiency of solar cells or the power condition system. The normal alignment of the PV module always have to run perpendicular to the sun's rays. The solar tracking system, able to improve the efficiency of the PV system, was initiated by applying that to the PV power plant. The tracking system of conventional PV power plant has been studied with regard to the tracking accuracy of the solar cells. Power generation efficiency were increased by aligning the cells for maximum exposure to the sun's rays. Using a perpendicular position facilitated optimum condition. However, there is a problem about the reliability of tracking systems unable to not track the sun correctly during environmental variations. Therefore, a novel control algorithm needs to improve the generation efficiency of the PV systems and reduce the loss of generation. This control algorithm is the proposed automatic tracking algorithm in this paper. Automatic tracking control is combined the sensor and program method for robust control in environment changing condition. This tracking system includes the insolation, rain sensor and anemometer for climate environment changing. Proposed algorithm in this paper, is compared to performance of conventional tracking control algorithm in variative insolation condition. And prove the validity of proposed algorithm through the experimental data.

For the unglazed PVT system it had lower thermal efficiency than the solar thermal absorber plate but higher electrical performance than the PV module due to the cooling effect by the working fluid. However, total efficiency of the glazed PVT system was72.2% which was higher than combined efficiencies of the solar collector and PV module. Besides, total efficiency of the PVT system would be much higher if calculated based on unit area.

It proposes an efficient control algorithm to increase electric power transmission efficiency between photovoltaic power generating system and the grid. The main controller finds a maximum efficiency condition by considering the quantity of power generated from PV arrays, the number of inverters, and efficiency of PV inverter. According to the condition, a relay board arranges a point of contract of PV arrays. By the disposition of PV arrays, it assigns the optimized power on each PV inverter. Operational principle of the proposed maximum efficiency point tracking algorithm is given in detail. To verify the validity of the proposed approach, computer-aided simulation and experiment carried out.
