In low-power grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) system, Single-phase transformerless full-bridge inverter is commonly used. However in transformerless photovoltaic application, the ground parasitic capacitance created by grounding between PV panels and ground. This ground parasitic capacitance inject additional current into the inverter, these currents cause electromagnetic interference problem, safety problem and harmonics problem in PV applications. In order to eliminate the ground current, This paper propose various inverter topologies in PV applications. These proposed inverter topologies are verified through simulation using PSIM.
The application of photovoltaics into building as integrated building components has been paid more attention worldwide. Photovoltaics or solar electric modules are sol id state devices, directly converting solar radiation into electricity; the process does not require fuel and any moving parts, and produce no pollutants. And the prefab building method is very effective because the pre- manufactured building components is simply assembled to making up buildings in the construction fields especially the sandwich panel. So, this paper describes a design and performance test of the 10kW poly metal pv module(pmpp) system. It is concluded that the prediction of BIPV system's performance should be based on the more accurate PV module installation.
Silicon feed stock shortage have acted as major restraints for growth of photovoltaic industry. Concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) system will reduce the use of silicon PV materials. This paper presents the application possibility of mono-crystalline silicon solar cell, which has increased in market share, for PV concentrator. We measured the power of solar cell using sun simulator and I-V curve tracer and compared the results. The comparison of results showed that the concentrated solar cell generated the power more approximately 7 times than without concentration in spite of non-heat sink. If CPV technology included heat sink combines already developed PV tracking system, it will have a merit economically.
The price competitiveness of photovoltaic system (PV system) has risen recently due to the growth of industries, however, it is rarely applied to the greenhouse compared to other renewable energy. In order to evaluate the application of PV system in the greenhouse, power generation and optimal installation area of PV panels should be analyzed. For this purpose, the prediction of the heating and cooling loads of the greenhouse is necessary at first. Therefore, periodic and maximum energy loads of a multi-span greenhouse were estimated using Building Energy Simulation(BES) and optimal installation area of PV panels was derived in this study. 5 parameter equivalent circuit model was applied to analyzed power generation of PV system under different installation angle and the optimal installation condition of the PV system was derived. As a result of the energy simulation, the average cooling load and heating load of the greenhouse were 627,516MJ and 1,652,050MJ respectively when the ventilation rate was $60AE{\cdot}hr^{-1}$. The highest electric power production of the PV system was generated when the installation angle was set to $30^{\circ}$. Also, adjustable PV system produced about 6% more electric power than the fixed PV system. Optimal installation area of the PV panels was derived with consideration of the estimated energy loads. As a result, optimal installation area of PV panels for fixed PV system and adjustable PV system were $521m^2$ and $494m^2$ respectively.
Recently, the installation capacity of PV (photovoltaic) systems has been increasing not only field installation but also floating PV, farm land, BIPV/BAPV. For this reason, the new design and materials of PV module are needed. In particular, in order to apply a PV system to a building, lightweight of the PV module is essential. PV modules made of generally used texturing glass are excellent in output and reliability, but there is a limit to the weight that can be reduced. For the lightweight of the PV module, it necessary to use a film instead of a glass. However, the application of film rather than a glass may cause various problems such as decrease in photocurrent by decrease in transmittance and a increase of CTM (cell to module) loss, a degradation of the reliability, and so on. In this paper, PV modules using Ultra barrier film, which is recently a lot of interest as a substitute for a glass, its characteristic analysis and reliability test were conducted. The transmittance and UV characteristics of each material were verified, and the output of the fabricated 1 cell PV module was measured. In addition, 24 cell PV modules were fabricated at the lab-scale and its reliability tests were conducted. As a result of the experiment, the reliability characteristics of the ultra barrier film PV module were excellent, and it was confirmed that it could be used as the front material of the PV module instead of glass
BIPV system that can alternate building envelope by making materials of PV module should be considered in initial design step for applying PV system efficiently in office building. Mean while, area of the building skin also increases as the number of floors increases, but the valid area that can apply BIPV system in effect decreases relatively. Despite of this weak point, installing BIPV system is still being evaluated as the only measure left that can reduce electronic energy consumption in the building. Therefore, the impact on building energy consumption according to the increase of the number of floors when BIPV system is applied in the building was analyzed. And it will be used as basic information for application of BIPV in office building. Conomic about application of BIPV is interpreted to be secured within the 10 story high. Forover the 11 floors, the methods of increasing the contribution ratio produced by BIPV system through the optimization of install angle and increase in install area of south, high efficiency should be considered. The ways to reduce basic load by integrated design with another renewable energy besides BIPV should be found. Later, the study on the total building energy comsumption with PV generation according to the various type of the basic load and ratio of the width and depth will be performed based on this study.
Recently, the cases of BIPV(Building-integrated Photovoltaic) have been increased with interest in renewable energy application for buildings. PV System in building can perform a variety of roles as an energy supplier, exterior materials, aesthetic element and etc. To apply PV modules in buildings, various factors should be considered, such as the installation angle and orientation of PV module, shading, and temperature. The temperature of PV modules that are attached to building surfaces especially is one of the most important factors, as it affects both the electrical efficiency of a PV module and the energy load in a building. BIPV modules designed as finished material for spandrels are presented in this paper. The purpose of this study is to analysis on the thermal performance characteristics of BIPV modules. This study dealt with different types of BIPV modules depending on the backside material, such as clear glass and backsheet. The analysis of monitoring data shows that the PV module temperature was closely related to the solar radiation on the BIPV module surface, and the BIPV used at the backside also had an effect on the PV module temperature that in turn determines its thermal performance.
The electricity conversion-efficiency of solar cell for commercial application is about 6-15%. More than 85% of the incoming solar energy is either reflected or absorbed as heat energy. Consequently, the working temperature of the photovoltaic cells increases considerably after prolonged operations and the cell's efficiency drops significantly. PV/T refers to the integration of a PV module and a solar thermal collector in a single piece of equipment. By cooling the PV module with a fluid steam like air or water, the electricity yield can be improved. At the same time, the heat pick-up by the fluid can be to support space heating or service hot-water systems. In this study, a pulsating heat pipe solar heat collector was combined with single-crystal silicon photovoltaic cell in hybrid energy-generating unit that simultaneously produced low temperature heat and heat and electricity. This experiment was investigating thermal and electrical efficiency for evaluation of a PV/T system.
Practical building integrated photovoltaic system built by Kolon E&C has been monitored and evaluated with respect to power generation, which was installed in Deokpyeong Eco Service Area in Deokpyeong, Gyeonggi, Korea. The amorphous silicon transparent PV module in this BIPV system has 44Wp in power output per unit module and 10% of transmittance with the unit dimension with $980mm{\times}950mm$. The BIPV system was applied as the skylight in the main entrance of the building. This study provided the database for the practical application of the transparent thin-film PV module for BIPV system through 11 month monitoring as well as various statistical analyses such as monthly power output and insolation. Average monthly power output of the system was 52.9kWh/kWp/month which is a 60% of power output of the previously reported data obtained under $30^{\circ}$of an inclined PV module facing south(azimuth=0). This lower power output can be explained by the installation condition of the building facing east, west and south, which was resulted from the influence of azimuth.
The monitoring system is an absolutely required system for improving a performance to consider the situation for the hybrid generation of the photovoltaic (PV) and wind power (WP) energy experimental research complex. This system is to monitor with the railroad switching point heating system using LabVIEW to the hybrid generation of the PV and WP. The monitoring system of this paper is a program monitoring the hour, day and total of the voltage and current that made from the hybrid generation of PV and WP. In experiment, we acquired the power data according to time at the day of PV and WP. We have confirmed the possibility of the real time monitoring system using LabVIEW with the railroad switching point heating system as the hybrid generation of the PV and WP.
