나노구조 용사코팅층의 형성에 관한 기초적 연구 (Fundamental Study on the Formation of Nanostructured Coating Layer)

  • The wire-arc process is a low-cost thermal spray method simply utilizes electrical energy to melt the feedstock wire. It is more userful for field applications, especially to coat large surface area. In this paper, a special Fe-based alloy coatings by using the wire-arc process were developed. Nanoscale composite coatings were achieved either during spraying or through a post heat treatment. As-sprayed Fe-based alloy coatings had been an amorphous matrix structure, after heating to $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes a solid state transformation occurred in the some fraction of amorphous matrix which resulted in the formation of nanostructured recrystallized phase. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emotional scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) were applied to analyze the microstructure of the coatings. Additionally hardness and bend resistance of the Fe-based alloy coatings were examined, and these results were compared with those of partially stabilized zirconia(PSZ) coatings by using the plasma spray process.

용존산소활량 측정용 지르코니아 갈바니 센서 (Zirconia galvani sensor for the measurement of oxygen activity)

  • Magnesia partially stabilized zirconia(Mg-PSZ) solid electrolytes for an improvement of thermal shock resistance, which is suitable for the measurement of oxygen activity in a molten steel, were prepared by post-thermal aging treatment. The steelmaking oxygen sensor elements were formed by an injection molding method, sintered at $1650^{\circ}C$, and then thermal aged ranged from 1250 to $1400^{\circ}C$. Sintered density and porosity were decreased as increasing the magnesia content in a zirconia-magnesia solid solution. Fractions of cubic phase to the synthesized Mg-PSZ solid electrolytes were ranged from 13.13 to 79.54.% after post-thermal aging treatment. Very dense microstructure without voids in the grains was obtained by the post-thermal aging process. Fine tetragonal phase crystallites precipitated on the cubic surface during post-thermal aging up to $1300^{\circ}C$ improve a thermal shock resistance and reappearance of electro motive force(EMF) curve.

플라즈마용사공정에서의 최적 조건 결정에 관한 연구 (Determination of Optimum Condition in Plasma Spraying Process)

  • A Taguchi methodology study of the plasma spraying thermal barrier coating (TBC) layer is presented. The experiment parameters were designed by a L8-style orthogonal arrays approach. A Taguchi analysis was conduc-ted through the results of the coating properties which were affected by plasma spraying parameters. Zirconia (partially stbilized with ytrria: PSZ) was sprayed on TiAl intermetallic compound substrates, The coating layer was characterized by thickness microstructure and porosity using SEM and Image analyzer. The coating quali-ties are discussed with respect to thermal barrier effect thermal cycling test6 and adhesion strength test. An optimum condition of plasma spraying process which are derived from the Taguchi analysis could be found for high quality TBC.

분말 열처리가 지르코니아 용사코팅층의 마모특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Heat Treatment of powder on the Tribological Behavior of the Plasma Sprayed Zirconia Coating)

  • The 3 mol% yttria stabilized zirconia (3-Y PSZ) powder was heat treated at 50 0$^{\circ}C$ to evaporate the polymer binder and stabilize the tetragonal phase. The wear experiments were carried out on a ring-on-plate type reciprocating wear tester at selected temperatures with in the range room temperature to 600$^{\circ}C$ The results show that the heat treatment of powder decreases the wear rate due to the reduction of microcracks and pores in coatings and the stabilization of the tetragonal phase. Powder heat treatment enhanced the quality of the coating layer by removing remnant gases during coating process and the powder heat treatment at which tetragonal phase is stable diminished phase ratio of monoclinic. These two effects improved wear resistance characters.

제조방법에 따른 Y-PSZ 분말의 응집 및 소결특성 (The Characteristic of Agglomerate and Sintering of Y-PSZ Powders Prepared by Different Processes)

  • Agglomeration of Y-PSZ and its related properties were studied. The ultrafine $ZrO_2$ powder containg 3 mol% $Y_2O_3$ was prepared by 1) coprecipitation method b) hot petroleum drying method c) sol-gel method and the characteristics of calcined powders and the microstructures of sintered body were observed. Powder prepared by the coprecipitation method was about 125$\AA$ in crystallite size and 0.1~1.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of intra-agglomerate pore size when calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. because of small crystallite size and weak agglo merate strength resultant densification of sintered body was high. But above the temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$ efflorescent phenomena due to anions attached to powder surface was observed. Powder prepared by hot petroleum drying method was 65$\AA$ in crystallite size and 1~10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of intraagglome-rate pore size and it was observed that the agglemerates were formed during the calcining process. In this case despite of small crystallite size the rate of sintering was slow and the existing lenticular interagglomerate pore was not eliminated to the final stage of sintering. Powder prepared by sol-gel method showed solid agglomertes due to rapi dhydrolysis reaction. In this powder which involves strong solid agglomerates overall sintering rate was determined by the sintering between the agglomerates and therefore sinterability of powders made by sol-gel method was very poor.

마그네시아 부분안정화 지르코니아 소결체의 특성에 미치는 열처리 효과 (Effects of Aging on Properties of MgO-Partially Stabilized Zirconia)

  • 9mol% 의 MgO로 $1650^{\circ}C$에서 4시간 고상반응과 동시에 소결시킨 부분안정화 지르코니아 소결체(9MZ-PSZ)를 소성후 냉각중 $1200^{\circ}C$~$1400^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서 열처리하여 이의 열분해 반응, 열충격기등 및 기전력 특성에 대하여 조사하였다. 열충격시럼 전과 후의 강도, 열팽창률, X-선 회절분석에 의한 단사정사 함률과 상전이, 밀도 및 갈바닉 전위를 측정하였으며 SEm에 의한 미세구조를 관찰하였다. 입체부근의 미소화학분석은 $1350^{\circ}C$ 열처리 시편에 한하여 EDX 로 정량하였다. 9MZ-PSZ 시편의 열처리에 의하여 입방정상의 $ZrO^{2}$는 상기 온도범위에서는 준안정-정방정상의 $ZrO^{2}$와 MgO로 열분해되는데, 이때 생성된 준안정 정방정상은 열충격 시험후의 잔류강도를 응력유기상전이 효과에 의해 증가시킨다. 또한 MgO는 입계에 연속적으로 존재하는데 이런하 MgO의 연속상을 통한 열전도롤 인하여 PSZ의 열충격 저항이 크게 향상된다. 이때 PSZ의 열분해 속도와 단사정상 함량은 열처리 온도가 $1400^{\circ}C$에서 $1200^{\circ}C$로 감소됨에 따라 증가한다. 갈바닉전의 측정결과 이상의 열처리에 의하여도 양호한 기전력 특성을 갖는 지르코니아 고체전해질을 제조할 수 있다.

  • A traditional notion of composites has been composed as a uniform dispersoid, but now it is proposed without regard to such rule with process development. Functionally Graded Material(FGM) consists of a new material design that is to make intentionally irregular dispersion state. In this study, thermal stress analysis of plasma spraying PSZ/NiCrAlY gradient material was conducted theoretically using a finite-element program. A formations of the model are direct bonding material(NFGM) and FGM with PSZ and NiCrAlY component element. The temperature conditions were $700^{\circ}C$ to 1100.deg. C assuming a cooling-down precess up to room temperature. Fracture damage mechanism was analyzed by the parameters of residual stress.

  • Different sizes of Si powder and milling medium materials (steel and partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ)) were used to synthesize $Ti_3Si$ and $TiSi_2$ by mechanical aollying (MA) of Ti-25.0.at.%Si and Ti-66.7at.% Si powder mixtures. the formation of each titanium silicide did not occur even after 360 min of MA of as-re-ceived Si and Ti powder mixtures due to the lack of homogeneity. $Ti_3Si$, however, was synthesized after 240 min of MA of Ti and 60 min-premilled Si powder mixture. ${\alpha}-TiSi_2$ and $TiSi_2$ were produced by jar milling of Ti and 60 min-premilled Si powder mixture for 48 hr and high -energy PSZ ball-milling in a steel vial for 360 min. The formation of each titanium silicide was characterized by a slow reaction rate as the reactants and product(s) coexisted for a certain period of time. The formation of $Ti_3Si$ and $TiSi_2$ and the reaction rates appeared to be influenced by the Si particle size, the homogeneity of the powder mixtures and the milling medium materials.

Mo-25.0at%Si 혼합분말의 기계적 합금화에 미치는 밀링매체 재료의 영향 (Effect of Milling Medium Materials on Mechanical Alloying of Mo-25.0at%Si Powder Mixture)

  • Milling media of steel and partially stabilized zirconia(PSZ) were used to produce $Mo_3$Si by mechanical alloying(MA) of Mo-25.0at%Si elemental powder mixture. The effect of milling medium materials on MA of the powder mixture have been investigated by XRD and DTA. The reaction rate and the end-product noticeably depended upon the milling medium material. The formation of $Mo_3$Si and $Mo_5Si_3$phases by PSZ ball-milling took place after 15 hr of MA and was characterized by a slow reaction rate as Mo, Si, $Mo_5Si_3$ and $Mo_3$Si coexisted for a long period of milling time. The formation of a new phase by steel ball-milling, however, did not take Place even after 96 hr of MA. DTA and annealing results showed that $Mo_5Si_3$ and $Mo_3$Si were formed after heating the ball-milled powder specimens to different temperatures. At low temperatures, Mo and Si were transformed into $Mo_5Si_3$. At high temperatures, the formation of $Mo_3$Si can be partially attributed to the reaction, 7Mo+Si+$Mo_5Si_3$-.4$Mo_3$Si . The formation of $Mo_3$Si and Mo5Si3 phases by mechanical alloying of the powder mixture and the relevant reaction rate appeared to depend upon the milling medium material as well as the thermodynamic properties of the end-products.
