To enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical analysis, the proposed heat flow fire analysis method is implemented in ANSYS. The proposed heat flow analysis method is applied to fire damage analysis and performance evaluation for Buchen and Yangsan highway bridge. The result of analysis, temperature of concrete slab and lower flange of steel-concrete composite bridge superstructure are exceed the critical temperature. Also, temperature of slab, lower and upper flange, web of PSC bridge superstructure are exceed the critical temperature. However, the major component, tendon, did not exceed the critical temperature.

  • The structure of PSC box girder with FRP strut has a form of supporting the cantilever part in the widened upper slab by modifying the existing PSC box girder efficiently, and it is able to build an economical and aesthetically pleasing bridge as it reduces the size of the lower structure by reducing the self-weight of the upper structure. In this research, loading test of PSC Box Girder using full-scale mock-up was conducted and FEM analysis was performed. By comparing results, structural safety of the FRP strut and the upper slab following application of the strut in the PSC Box Girder Bridge were evaluated.

  • Semi-integral abutment bridges are a type of integral abutment bridges. These bridges eliminate expansion joints on the structure and can be used in situations not suitable for full-integral abutment bridge. Moreover, Semi-integral bridges have excellent maintenance and can be economically constructed. This study is about precast wall-type blocks at each end which provide lateral support for PSC girder, as well as acting as retaining walls to resist longitudinal movement of semi-integral abutment bridge. The end-diaphragm connection between ended blocks of PSC girders can be achieved by in-suit nonshrinkage concrete. The results show that 3-point experiment of end-diaphragm beam have an acceptable performance which is so better than results of structural design. Moreover, the effects of backfill soil on semi-integral abutment bridge constructed are analyzed the behavior according to the temperature changes.

  • Recently, the construction industry has been changed in such a way that the cost for bridge construction should be optimized or reduced. Therefore, bridges are required be cost-effective in terms of initial construction as well as in the maintenance during service stage. In order to reduce the cost for bridge construction, the Rahmen typed structure, in which the bridge components from superstructure to substructure are integral, has many advantages to reduce the size of structural members including girders, since the loadings from superstructure may be transferred to substructure through the connecting rebars such as stud, etc. This paper studied on the continuous Up and Down Prestressed Concrete (UD PSC) girder bridge in which the reinforced concrete pier cap is integral with the part of girders in superstructure. In previous studies, it is known that the structural behavior of continuous UD PSC girder bridge is quite different compared to the one of the bridges with conventional bearings or shoes to support the loading from girders. Nevertheless, it has hardly been studied about the structural behavior of bridge with UD PSC girder. Therefore, in this study, various dynamic behaviors of continuous UD PSC girder bridge with integral pier cap have been analyzed using numerical method. Furthermore, an equation to evaluate the impact factor is suggested for the UD PSC girder bridge which has two to three continuous spans.

  • The research so far has primarily analyzed efficiency improvement but in this research, it analyzes the characteristics of earthquake behavior, with changed pier heights, through ordinary and seismic analysis. For this, the kind of bridge bearing has been changed against PSC I-shaped bridge, which is mostly used in practice, and at all times earthquake analysis has been performed with through height of pier. Especially considering sectional power resulting from earthquake analysis, displacement of PSC I-shaped bridge bearing, diameter of pier pillar by earthquake load, and upper spare gap have been analyzed. In case of high-pear, seismic isolated device is decided as proper for cars' driving and for management of bridge since it decreases movement of upper structure, than elastic bearing, reducing size of elastic connect device, and it's been analyzed it is effective for improvement of fine view and economic efficiency reducing section of lower bridge structure. Finally, when design PSC I-shaped bridge bearing, for the proper structure and high-pier side, applying seismic isolated device through precise inner analysis is proper than applying equal elastic bearing.

  • The data management and the evaluation of defects in the bridge are generally conducted based on inspection and diagnosis data, including the exterior damage map and defect quantity table prepared by periodic inspection. Since most of these data are written in 2D-based documents and are difficult to digitize in a standardized manner, it is challenging to utilize them beyond the defined functionality. This study proposed methods to efficiently build a BIM (Building Information Modeling)-based bridge damage model from raw data of inspection report and to manage and utilize the damage information linking to bridge model through the spread sheet data generated by COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange). In addition, a method to conduct the condition assessment of defects in bridge was proposed based on an automatic evaluation process using digitized bridge member and damage information. The proposed methods were tested using superstructure of PSC-I girder concrete bridge, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the methods were verified.

  • Under transverse earthquake shaking, arching action of bridge structures develops along the deck between the abutments thus providing the so-called deck resistance. The magnitude of the arching action for bridge structures is dependent on the number of spans, connection condition between deck and abutment or piers, and stiffness ratio between superstructure and substructure. In order to investigate the arching action effects for inelastic seismic responses of PSC Box bridges, seismic responses evaluated by pushover analysis, capacity spectrum analysis and nonlinear time-history analysis are compared for 18 example bridge structures with two types of span numbers (short bridge, SB and long bridge, LB), three types of pier height arrangement (regular, semi-regular and irregular) and three types of connection condition between superstructure and substructure (Type A, B, C). The arching action effects (reducing inelastic displacement and increasing resistance capacity) for short bridge (SB) is more significant than those for long bridge (LB). Semi-regular and irregular bridge structures have more significant arching action than regular bridges.

  • Bridges constructed without any expansion joint or bridge bearing are called integral abutment bridges. They integrate the substructure and the superstructure. Possible deformation of the superstructure, due to changes in temperature for example, is prevented by the bending of the piles placed at the lower part of the abutment. This study examines the behavior of integral abutment bridges through soil-pile interaction modeling method and proposes an appropriate modeling method. Also, it assesses the behavior characteristics of the superstructure and piles of integral abutment bridges through parametric study. Soil condition around the pile, abutment height, and pile length were selected as parameters to be analyzed. Structural analysis was conducted while considering the interactions of soil-pile and temperature change-earth pressure on the abutment. Comparative behavior analysis through soil-pile interaction modeling showed that elastic soil spring method is more appropriate in evaluating the behavior of integral abutment bridges. The parametric study showed the tendency that as the soil stiffness around the pile increases, the moment imposed on the superstructure increases, and the displacement of the piles decreases. In addition, it was observed that as the bridge height increases, the earth pressure on the abutment increases and that in turn affects the behavior of the superstructure and piles. Also, as the length of the pile increased, the integral bridge showed more flexible behavior.

  • In the fields of design within civil engineering, BIM based Utilization of 3D object model is still far from commercialization. In this paper, BIM based 3D object model is composed for PSC box girder, super structure of railway bridge. The basic unit of the model is part model. The part model is the minimum unit model. And it has hierarchy to reflect the characteristics of structures. Change orders of structural designer must be reflected quickly in the 3D object model. Repetitive change orders are occurred in actual construction process. To prepare that, we classified design variables to parameters. Change orders of structural designer can be reflected quickly in the 3D object model because those parameters are related with information of 3D object model. In this paper, we studied various benefits of BIM based design method with 3D object model in the fields of design within civil engineering, and proposed the efficient application method of 3D object model for PSC box girder.
