In this study to produce large-scale scopolamine we were examined in the tumor calli of Datura metel L. induced by Agrobacterium tumefaciens $Ery{101}$. The growth and scopolamine contents of tumor calli were higher under light condition than in dark. The optimum condition of growth and scopolamine production were fluence rate of 16 $\mu$mol $m^{-2}s^{-1}$, spectra of red light region and 16 hour light periods on 50 mL SH liquid medium in 4 weeks culture. To increase of the scopolamine contents in tumor calli, the optimum concentration of nitrogen source were 1.8 mM NH$_4$+ and 40 mM NO$_3$. The optimum elicitor concentration for production of scopolamine were 10 mg/L chitosan and 15 mg/L yeast extract. The effect of precursors were good at the concentration of 0.2 mM tropine and 0.3 mM tropic acid, respectively. In order to increase of growth and scopolamine contents. we induced mutant from Datura metel L. tumor callus. Mutants of tumor calli were obtained by 3 Krad, 4 Krad and 6 Krad of ${60}^Cor-ray$. Among them, 3 Krad tumor callus was excellent on the growth and teratoma induction. The 4 Krad tumor callus was negligible for both growth and teratoma induction. But the 6 Krad tumor callus was the best in growth and teratoma induction. The formation of the mutant calli can be enhanced through hormonal combination of 1 mg/L 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 0.5 mg/L benzyladenine. We carry out selection mutant tumor calli for high content tropane alkaloid and suspension cultures for scopolamine production.

In recent days, the demand for the remote ECG monitoring system has been increasing and the automation of the monitoring system is becoming quite of a concern. Automatic detection of the abnormal ECG beats must be a necessity for the successful commercialization of these real time remote ECG monitoring system. From these viewpoints, in this paper, we proposed an automatic detection algorithm for the abnormal ECG beats using QRS width and RR interval patterns. In the previous research, many efforts have been done to classify the ECG beats into detailed categories. But, these approaches have disadvantages such that they produce lots of misclassification errors and variabilities in the classification performance. Also, they require large amount of training data for the accurate classification and heavy computation during the classification process. But, we think that the detection of abnormality from the ECG beats is more important that the detailed classification for the automatic ECG monitoring system. In this paper, we tried to detect the VEB which is most frequently occurring among the abnormal ECG beats and we could achieve satisfactory detection performance when applied the proposed algorithm to the MIT/BIH database.
Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides synthesized on ribosomes, produced by bacteria, that inhibit the growth of similar or closely related bacterial strains. Since the discovery of nisin, many bacteriocins with unique structures and various modes of antibacterial activity have been described, and genes encoding production, secretion, and immunity have been reported. Nisin is one of the bacteriocins applied in cheese, liquid eggs, sauces and canned foods. Many of the bacteriocins of the genus Bacillus belong to lantibiotics, which are modified peptides after translation. Other genus Bacillus also produce many non-lantibiotic bacteriocins. Bacteriocins of the genus Bacillus are sometimes becoming more important because of their broader antibacterial spectrum. Bacteriocins are considered attractive compounds in the food and pharmaceutical industries to prevent food spoilage and growth of pathogenic bacteria. Bacteriocins can be used as biological preservatives in a variety of ways in the food system. Biopreservation refers to extending shelf life and improving safety of foods using microorganisms and/or their metabolites. The demand for new antimicrobial compounds has generated great interest in new technologies that can improve food microbiological safety. Applications of bacteriocins are expanding from food to human health. Today, many researchers are shifting their interest in bacteriocins from food preservation to the treatment of bacteria that cause infections and antibiotic-resistant diseases. This exciting new era in bacteriocin research will undoubtedly lead to new inventions and new applications. In this review, we summarize the various properties and applications of bacteriocins produced by the genus Bacillus.
An experiment was conducted to produce vaterite-type precipitated calcium carbonate from waste oyster shells in order to use them as recyclable resources. Calcined oyster shells containing calcium oxide as their main component were prepared at a temperature of 800℃ for 24 h. The oyster shells were dissolved in nitric acid or hydrochloric acid solution to make 0.1 M calcium nitrate or calcium chloride aqueous solution, and a carbonation reaction was performed using a 0.1 M sodium carbonate aqueous solution under various experimental conditions, which included varying the amount of aspatic acid additive, the amount of NH4OH added, the reaction time, the reaction temperature, the stirring speed, and the type of dissolved acid. The XRD, SEM, and size distributions were analyzed and the vaterite content was calculated. Spherical precipitated calcium carbonate with a vaterite content of 95.9% was synthesized by adding 0.1 mol aspatic acid/1 mol CaO and 2 cm3 of NH4OH, and reacting for 1 h at 25℃ while stirring at 600 rpm. The average particle diameter was found to be 12.11 ㎛. Calcium carbonate contatining high vaterite is used as high value added calcium carbonate for medical, food, inke additiver, etc.
It was performed in this study to provide basic information on production of accurate gonadal shield by measuring pelvic indicators of TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP. when pelvis ap and hip ap examination was taken, there is no exact position of the reference point of the shield and anatomically more difficult to shield gonad in the case of female infants than male. Results analyzed by height in 70~80 and 110~120 were approximately 30mm 13mm 19mm 20mm 2mm and 7mm difference in TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP respectively. This value was statistically significant (P<0.05). Results analyzed by age of 2~3 and 6~7 were different on SD ISP IAD and 2CDP by 17mm 10mm 12mm 16mm respectively. it was also statistically significant. However 1CDP was not statistically significant(P>0.05). the difference was nearly about 1mm. Analysis of results by weight of less than 10 and more than 20 showed difference on TDP SD ISP IAD 1CDP and 2CDP by 28mm 14mm 11mm 20mm 3mm and 8mm. it was statistically significant (P<0.05). From the above results, female infants pelvic indicator measurement can be used as reference value for shielding production and especially IAD can present a reference point on the shielding position. Pelvis indicators of female infant has a close correlation. In addition, as it is showen in the statistical difference analysis to have an accurate ovarian shield, gonad shield would be produced and used by height, age and weight.
We have recently discovered that mycelium of Phellinus linteus, popular medical mushrooms in Korea, possess alcohol dehydrogenase and produce alcohol. In the present study, it was examined that the effect of fermented rice wine made by using mycelium of P. linteus (FLMP) on the expression of in-flammation-related proteins in both $HepG_2$ cells and rats. To examine the effect of FLMP on the morphology and expression of inflammatory proteins in $HepG_2$ cells, the cells were incubated with ethanol, and FLMP for 24 hours, and then analyzed by microscopic observation and Western blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). While ethanol induced the morphological change accompanied with cell debris formation and scattering on $HepG_2$ cells, FLMP had no effect. The results of Western blot and RT-PCR analyses showed that the level of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 was induced by ethanol, however, FLMP inhibited the expression of these proteins and its mRNAs. In the animal model, the value of flutamate oxaloacetate transaminase and glutamate pyruvate transaminase was significantly increased by administration with ethanol. But the group administrated with FLMP showed lower levels on the changes of these markers compared with ethanol-administrated group. Besides, the results of Western blot and RT-PCR analyses showed that the expression of inflammatory proteins such as iNOS, COX-1 and COX-2 was not affected by FLMP administration in rat liver. About histopathological and immunohistochemical observations, inflammatory loci were markedly decreased in the FLMP-administrated rat compared to ethanol-administrated rats and showed weaker COX-2 and iNOS jmmunoreactions. These results suggested that FLMP showed slight changes on the inflammatory proteins expression compared to ethanol and FLMP may be used as a functional alcoholic beverage.

In this study, we performed a cross-combination test using offspring from two paternal and five maternal parent stock lines to produce a new synthetic breed of Korean native commercial chickens. The survival rate, body weight, feed intake, and feed efficiency were measured for 10 crosses, with 837 Hanhyup-3 chickens used as a control. Most chickens had brown-based feathers, and there was little difference in color phenotypes among combinations. The average survival rate of the combinations was 94.9%, which was significantly different from that of Hanhyup-3 at 75.3% (P<0.01). There was significant differences in body weight among the combinations at all weeks of age (P<0.01). At 10 weeks of age, the FHHY combination was the heaviest with 2,300 g, while the weight of Hanhyup-3 was 1,922 g. In addition, the weight difference between the male and female chickens was 458 g. As a result of regression analysis, the duration needed to reach 1.9 kg was about 61 days for the FHFY, FHHY, and HFFY combinations, and 70 days for Hanhyup-3, exhibiting a 9-day difference. The average feed conversion ratio of the combinations until 10 weeks was 2.42, which was significantly different from that of Hanhyup-3 at 2.97 (P<0.01). In conclusion, FHHY, FHFY, and HFFY were determined to be the best new breed combinations based on production capacity. When these combinations are used as new commercial breeds, they are expected to increase the average weight by 18% and improve feed efficiency by 19%, as compared to the existing Hanhyup-3 breed.

In this research, the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiaging, and skin whitening properties of pulp and seed extracts of passion fruit were studied. The result of the primary skin irritation test using a skin-attached patch determined the skin irritation index to be 0.00 for the passion fruit extract. In addition, RAW 264.7 macrophages produce NO by stimulation of lipopolysaccharides, and the application of extracts to this resulted in significantly lower NOs, confirming the excellent anti-inflammatory properties of passion fruit extracts. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl test further confirmed that the passion fruit extract exhibits a good 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate radical scavenging ability of 5.11% and strong antioxidant properties. The presence of collagen type I in the skin is a measure of aging and various skin diseases. The results obtained from the analysis of the activity of human procollagen I alpha 1 confirmed that the passion fruit extract reduces the synthesis of procollagen. In addition, the skin whitening property of the passion fruit extract was confirmed by the melanin inhibition test, and a sample was obtained that contained more than 2% of arbutin, a whitening agent approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, which is generally present in the form of a white powder and is used as a functional ingredient. This confirms that the whitening efficacy of the passion fruit extract obtained from nature contributes to the development of functional raw materials for cosmetics and food.
The effect of physostigmine (PS), which has been shown to act on the muscarinic receptors in the brains of the rat, dog and cat, on the arterial blood pressure (BP) was investigated in urethane-anesthetized rabbits. Intravenous (iv) PS, $25{\sim}300\;{\mu}g/kg$, caused little change in BP. However, after treatment of rabbits with either of chlorisondamine (CS), hexamethonium, intracerebroventricular (icv) clonidine, icv xylazine and icy reserpine iv PS produced a pressor response. Spinalization of the rabbit also caused iv PS to increase BP. The pressor effect of iv PS in CS-treated rabbits was markedly reduced after prazosin or pirenzepine. Iv PS inhibited the pressor response to McN-A-343 in CS-treated and in spinal rabbits; alternately during the infusion of McN-A-343 iv PS failed to produce the pressor response. The pressor response to DMPP was not affected by iv PS. Icv PS, $12{\sim}200\;{\mu}g/kg$, produced a pressor response which was accentuated after CS-treatment. This pressor effect was inhibited, though not complete, by prazosin or by pirenzepine. A simultaneous treatment of rabbits with both $[Sar^{1},\;Ala^{8}]-angiotensin$ II, an angiotensin II antagonist, and prazosin or pirenzepine almost completely abolished the pressor effect of icv PS, whereas the angiotensin II antagonist did not enhance the inhibitory effect of pirenzepine and prazosin on the pressor response to iv PS . Icv pirenzepine blocked the pressor response to icv PS without affecting that to iv PS. The present results show that the pressor response to iv PS in CS-treated and in spinal rabbits arises from stimulation of the muscarinic receptors in the sympathetic ganglia, whereas the pressor response by icv PS via activation of the muscarinic receptors in the brain which causes an enhancement in the outflow of sympathetic discharge and angiotensin. The results also suggest that iv PS is unable to produce a pressor response in the rabbit unless the sensitivity of the gangionic muscarinic receptors is altered by ganglionic nicotinic blockade, by the decrease of central sympathetic outflow on the sympathetic ganglia or by spinalization.

The present study evaluated the validation method for isoflavone contents of fermented soybean extracts by bioconversion as well as their antioxidant activities. Our results show that the total isoflavone contents of non-fermented and fermented soybean extract ranged between 119.8 to $637.7{\mu}g/g$ and between 567.3 to $2,074.6{\mu}g/g$, respectively. Moreover, fermented soybean extracts had higher contents of isoflavone aglycones, including daidzein, glycitein, and genistein than non-fermented soybean extracts as well as lower contents of isoflavone glucosides such as daidzin, glycitin, and genistin. FRAP and ORAC values ranged between 0.15 to 0.22 and between 195.24 to $753.79{\mu}M$ Trolox equivalents/g in non-fermented and fermented soybean extracts, respectively. These results indicate that fermented soybean extracts had higher total isoflavone contents and antioxidant activities than non-fermented soybean extracts. Bioconversion process in this study may have the potential to produce isoflavone-enriched natural antioxidant agents with high added value from soybean matrices.
