  • The objective of this paper is to define local optimization algorithms (LOA) to solve Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (RCPSP) and analyze the performance of these algorithms. By representing solutions with activity list, three primitive LOAs, i.e. forward and backward improvement-based, exchange-based, and relocation-based LOAs are defined. Also, combined LOAs integrating two primitive LOAs are developed. From the experiments with standard test set J120 generated using ProGen, the FBI-based LOA demonstrates to be an efficient algorithm. Moreover, algorithms combined with FBI-based LOA and other LOA generate good solutions in general. Among the considered algorithms, the combined algorithm of FBI-based and exchangebased shows best performance in terms of solution quality and computation time.

  • Graphics processing unit (GPU) is used for a faster artificial neural network. It is used to implement the matrix multiplication of a neural network to enhance the time performance of a text detection system. Preliminary results produced a 20-fold performance enhancement using an ATI RADEON 9700 PRO board. The parallelism of a GPU is fully utilized by accumulating a lot of input feature vectors and weight vectors, then converting the many inner-product operations into one matrix operation. Further research areas include benchmarking the performance with various hardware and GPU-aware learning algorithms. (c) 2004 Pattern Recognition Society. Published by Elsevier Ltd. • To improve the visual servoing performance, several strategies were proposed in the past such as redundant feature points, using a point with different height and weighted selection of image features. The performance of these visual servoing methods depends on the configuration between the camera and object. And redundant feature points require much computation efforts. This paper proposes the visual servoing m based on the disturbance observer, which compe the upper off-diagonal component of image fe Jacobian to be null. The performance indices su sensitivity for a measure of richness, sensitiv the control to noise, and controllability are sho improved when the image feature Jacobian is giv a block diagonal matrix. Computer simulation carried out for a PUMA560 robot and show results to verify the effectiveness of the pro method.

In this paper, the neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to im¬prove the performance of fuzzy controller. It has the width of membership function, that is adapted to the electrical parameter using multi-layer neural network, it is applied to first order electric power system with dead time and various plant constant. The related simulation resolts show that the pro¬posed neuro fuzzy controller are superior characteristics of improved performance

  • In this paper, warm asphalt binder was proposed as a substitute for the polymer-modified asphalt binder to get higher viscosity than that of the polymer-modified at the same temperature. Performance grade test and rotational viscosity of warm asphalt binder were conducted to evaluate the property variations due to the addition of admixture. Research results showed that the viscosity of warm asphalt binder at $100^{\circ}C$ was similar to that of the conventional asphalt binder. The performance and durability of warm asphalt binder were also comparable to those of the polymer-modified. It is considered that the active applications of warm asphalt binder can reduce environmental damages due to less diffusions of carbon dioxide compared to the conventional.

  • This study presents a methodology to choose the optimal parameter of controller by using the performance index sensitivity. The pro-posed method is to select the controller parameter to have the minimum sensitivity. It is shown that the optimal parameter proves the effectiveness in the dynamic stability of power system.

  • There are two rotation matrix parameters in a model, pro-posed by Prentice in 1989, for pairs of rotations in 3 dimensional space. For the least squares estimates of the two parameters, an algorithm was also presented, but it turned out that the algorithm could fail to get the least squares estimates. This article provides another algorithm for the least squares estimates and its performance is demonstrated by simulation results.

  • This study was performed to examine the effects of dietary Acanthopanax senticosus (AS) on growth performance, immune organ weights, blood biochemical parameters and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in broiler chicks. A total of 120 4-day-old birds were given a basal diet (CON) or a basal diet supplemented with 0.5% (AS1) or 1.0% (AS2) AS powder until the birds were 35 days of age. There was no difference in body weight, total gain, feed intake or immune organ weights among the treatment groups. However, the feed conversion ratio in the AS2 group was lower (p<0.05) than that in the CON group. Serum biochemical components, including AST (aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), albumin and total protein, were not affected by the dietary treatments, whereas glucose and triglyceride levels increased (p<0.05) in the AS2 group compared with the CON group. The AS1 group exhibited decreased mRNA expression (p<0.05) of IFN-${\gamma}$ in white blood cells and iNOS in the liver compared with the CON group. The other pro-inflammatory cytokines were unaffected by dietary AS supplementation, although there was a trend towards decreased expression of these genes, including those encoding Il-$1{\beta}$, IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with 0.5% AS decreased the expression of several pro-inflammatory cytokines without affecting growth performance, suggesting that this supplement might be applicable as an immunoregulatory feed additive in broiler chicks.

  • This descriptive correlational research was conducted to compare the relationship between self-esteem performance of antenatal care and health pro-motion lifestyles for unmarried and married pregnant women. The sample consisted of 94 married women attending one general hospital and residing in Seoul and 82 unmarried women from two social institutes for unmarried women. The tool used for this study was a structured questionnaire which was developed and revised by the researcher. The tool consisted of 12 items related to demographic characteristics, 10 items on self-esteem measurement, 20 items on performance of antenatal care and 37 items on health promotion lifestyle profile. The data collected from the interviews were analyzing using the SPSS, yielding frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. The results of this study are as follows : 1) The demographic variables for the two groups were heterogenous except for religion. 2) The results of the comparison between the two groups were significantly different for self-esteem, married women(mean 20.41, standard deviation 3. 94) had higher scores on self-esteem than unmarried women(mean 24.02, standard deviation 4.11), (t=-5.91, p .001) 3) There was a stastically significant difference between the two groups on the health promotion lifestyle profile. The married women had higher scores on the health promotion lifestyle profile (t=7.22, p〈.001) 4) The score for married women on performance of antenatal care has higher than the score for unmarried women(t=8.83, p〈.001) 5) With regard to the relationship between health promotion lifestyle and performance of antenatal care and self-esteem, the correlation coefficient between self-esteem and health Promotion lifestyle for married women was .45, between per formance of antenatal care and health promotion lifestyle, .54, between self-esteem and performance of antenatal care, .32. For the unmarried women, between self-esteem and health promotion lifestyle, .39, between performance of antenatal care and health promotion lifestyle, .67, between self-esteem and performance of antenatal care, .30. 6) There was a statistically significant different between the two groups on all subconcepts of the health promotion lifestyle profile (p〈.001). 7) Comparison of the order of the scores between the two groups for the married women showed that the highest score was for nutrition, then self-actualization, interpersonal support, health responsibility, stress management and exercise in that order. For the unmarried women the highest score was for self-actualization followed by nutrition, interpersonal support, stress management, health responsibility, and exercise in that order. The score in the exercise domain was lowest in both groups. In conclusion, on the basis of the results of this study, resources and protection facilities for unmarried pregnant women could be improved through government policies and health care policies that would allow unmarried women to utilize significant social support resources and actualize health pro-motion lifestyles. Nursing should offer interventions to increase psychosocial adjustment and support tp improve the quality of life for unmarried pregnant women and further to promote improved growth and development of the infants.
