Four different rice varieties, Sindongjinbyeo, Dongjin #1, Saegyehwabyeo, and Iksan 467, were transplanted under three different nitrogen levels and two different seedling numbers per hill to obtain basic information on panicle traits under different cultural conditions and to propose the ideal panicle structure in Japonica rice. Sindongjinbyeo and Iksan 467 were characterized by more primary rachis branches (PRBs) per panicle and more grains on PRB than other cultivars. The two varieties also had fewer secondary rachis branches (SRBs) per PRB and fewer grains on SRB per PRB. These characteristics, consequently, resulted in higher ripened grain rate, contrary to that of Dongjin #1 and Saegyehwabyeo. In the correlation coefficient analysis, PRB number per panicle and grain number on PRB per panicle were positively correlated with ripened grain rate, while SRB number per panicle, number of grains on SRB per panicle, SRB number per PRB, number of grains on SRB per PRB and grain number per panicle were negatively correlated with ripened grain rate. Therefore, the number of grains on PRB per panicle, SRB number per PRB and the number of grains on SRB per PRB were the appropriate criteria for determining and achieving higher ripened grain rate in rice. High ripened grain rate over 90% was obtainable with over 12.5 PRBs per panicle and 63 grains on PRB per panicle, and with under 1.7 SRBs per PRB, 5 grains on SRB per PRB, 130 grains per panicle, and 14 panicles per hill. The study recommended that for over 90% high ripened grain rate, the critical limiting factors should be under 2 SRBs per PRB, 6 grains per PRB, and 130 grains per panicle, irrespective of the PRB number per panicle and the number of grains on PRB.

A hybrid permeable reactive barriers(hybrid PRBs) composed of Fe(II) PRB, biological PRB and sorptive PRB was investigated to treat groundwater with multiple contaminations. We performed batch, column and pilot tests to determine removal rates and design parameters of each PRB media, and operated two hybrid PRB systems with pilot-scale barriers in series. The pilot test of the hybrid PRB system with the combination of Fe(II), biological media and black shale showed multiple contaminations could be removed in ground water. Nitrate could be treated below 20 mg/L and Cr(VI) was treated down to 0.05 mg/L. TCE was degraded below 0.001 mg/L in system. The hybrid PRB system with a proper combination of PRBs could remediate ground water with multiple contaminations.
Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRB) method is an economical method that does not require any other methods to be operated once it is installed as it controls of groundwater flow in the barrier, which is inserted a reactive material on the way of pollutant. The major dominant element of PRB is a reactive material in the reactive wall, and such factors as purification efficiency and used time based on the chemical and physical features in between the reactant and pollutant. High purification efficiency can be expected when a rational design that is synthetically considered in features of packing density, operation period, and adsorption reactant of pollutant. A column test was conducted for an application test using CFW as its adsorption reactant in order to remove copper($Cu^{2+}$) in the PRB system. The CFW was used for the reactant and selected inflow speed, density and thickness of PRB as its necessary factors for design of PRB. As a result of the experiment, the removal efficiency decreased as operating time of PRB increased and the efficiency linearly increased upon the length. Therefore, it is confirmed that the thickness of reactive materials in PRB system can be designed using the proposed formula considering purification time and density of CFW.
The objectives of this study were to develope the uncooked-restructured belly (URB) and the processed-restructured bacon (PRB) using a protein-emulsion material (PEM) from pork, and to evaluate the quality characteristics of the URB and PRB. The PEM used to adhere muscle and fat tissues was prepared with a salt-soluble protein and emulsions (ratio 9:1). In color measurements, L$\^$*/, a$\^$*/ and b$\^$*/ values were significantly (p<0.05) higher in URB than PRB. There was no significant difference in L$\^$*/ value between PRB from fresh pork and PRB from thaw pork PRB showed significantly (p<0.05) higher water holding capacity compared to URB. Tensil strength of PRB was also significantly (p<0.05) higher than that of URB. However, PRB from thawed pork marked the lowest color score among restructured meats in sensory evaluation. The scores of juiciness and tenderness were significantly (p<0.05) Higher in URB compared to PRB. Consequently URB had significantly (p.<0.05) higher score of overall acceptability than PRB. These results suggested that URB made with PEM could have a better sensory characteristics compared to PRB. Results also suggested that the PEM would not be enough to adhere fresh muscle and fat tissues as much as PRB, even though the possibility of PEM was confirmed as a meat glue.
In this study, the assessment of field applicability of in-situ remediation of nitrate-contaminated groundwater located in Yesan-gun was performed. Zero-valent iron/bio composite media injected PRB (Permeable Reactive Barrier) and monitoring well were installed in the contaminated groundwater site and monitored main remediation indicators during the PRB operation. Nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, Fe ion, TOC, and turbidity were analyzed and the diversity and population of microorganism in the PRB installed site were investigated for the verification of effect of injected PRB. In the study site where is an agricultural area, a river flows from west to east that forms a river boundary and the southern area has an impermeable sector. It was found that nitrate flows into the river, which is similar as groundwater flow. Simulation result for the fate of nitrate in groundwater showed steady state of nitrate arrived after 3~5 years passed. However, it is just to consider current conditions with no additional input of contaminant source, if additional input of contaminant source occurs contamination dispersion and time for steady state are expected to be increased. The monitoring results showed that Fe ion, TOC and turbidity in groundwater were not clearly changed in concentration after PRB installation, which indicates adaptability of the injected PRB for remediation of groundwater with no additional harmful effect to water quality. The concentration of nitrate maintained less than 5mg/L until 42 days after PRB installation and recovered its initial concentration after 84 days passed and showed termination of reactivity of injected zero-valent iron/bio composite media for removal nitrate. Nitrite and ammonia ions found after installation of PRB indicates reductive removal of nitrate. And the outstanding increase of microorganism diversity and population of Betaproteobacteria Class which includes denitrification microorganism explains biologically reductive removal of nitrate in injected PRB.

This paper presents preliminary laboratory investigations on the electrokinetic (EK) remediation coupled with permeable reactive barrier (PRB) system. Atomizing slag was adopted as a PRB reactive material for remediation of groundwater contaminated with inorganic and/or organic substances. A series of laboratory experiments were performed with variable conditions such as (i) type of contaminant, (ii) applied electric field strength, (iii) processing time, and (iv) the application of PRB system. From the preliminary investigations, the coupled technology of EK with PRB system would be effective to remediate contaminated grounds without the extraction of pollutants from subsurface due to the reactions between the reactive materials and contaminants.
The objectives of this research were to study the applicability and limitations of permeable reactive barrier (PRB) for the removal of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) from the groundwater. PRB column tests were conducted using reactive material with Moringa Oleifera Mass - Bentonite (Mom-Bentonite). Most of the PCE in the groundwater was degraded and/or captured (sorpted) in the zone containing activated material (MOM-Bentonite). The removal rate of PCE from the groundwater was 90% and 75% after 30 days and 180 days, respectively. The effect of micro-organisms on the long-term permeability and reactivity of the barrier is not well understood. MOM-Bentonite PRB system in this research has the potential to be developed into an environmentally and economically acceptable technology for the in situ remediation of PCE-contaminated groundwater.

3G Long Term Evolution (3G LTE) is a next generation cellular networks system capable or providing various mobile multimedia services by using OFDMA and MIMO based radio access technology. Among many differences from existing WCDMA based systems, the facts that 3G LTE uses Physical Resource Block (PRB) as its radio resources and provides all services through the PS domain make the development of new resource management schemes necessary. This paper proposes an adaptive partitioning based downlink call admission control scheme. It separates realtime call requests from non-realtime ones, specifies maximum allowable resource amounts for each type, but if the maximum is exceeded, call requests are accepted with probability proportional to remaining resource amounts. Despite the fact that such adaptive concept has been already adopted by other call admission schemes, the contributions of our paper, which are that we are able to find an efficient way to apply the proposed scheme exploiting PRB characteristics and measure the resource usage of base stations by PRB utilization and payload ratio, are still valid. When judging from simulation results in comparison with others, our scheme is able to prioritize realtime call requests over non-realtime ones, and at the same time, overall system performance is superior.

This study introduces a technique for improving the elastomeric-isolator performance using modular devices. The modular devices are shear resistance block, polymer spring, displacement acceptance guide, and anti-falling block. They are installed on the elastomeric isolator as a supplementary device. Each modularized device improves the isolator performance by performing step-by-step actions according to the seismic intensity and displacement. The PRB isolation device works in four stages, depending on the seismic magnitude, to satisfy the target performance. It is designed to accommodate design displacement in the first stage and large magnitude of earthquakes in the second and third stages. This design prevents superstructures from falling in the fourth stage due to large-magnitude earthquakes by increasing the capacity limit of the elastomeric isolator. In this study, the PRB isolation device is analyzed using finite element analysis to verify that the PRB isolation device works as intended and it can withstand loads corresponding to large-magnitude earthquakes. The performance of the PRB isolation device is validated by the analysis, which is further corroborated by actual experiments.

We previously demonstrated an enhancer-like positive regulatory element within a 259-bp sequence (-2352 to-2094 bp) of the human CYP1A2 gene in HepG2 cells. Three protein binding sites were identified by DNase I footprint analyses within the 259-bp sequence: protected region A PRA ( -2283 to-2243 bp), PRB (-2218 to-2187 bp), and PRC (-2124 to-2098 bp) (I. Chung and E. Bresnick, Mol. Pharmacol. 47, 677-685, 1995). In the present study, the functional significance of those protected regions was examined. Transfection experiments with deletion and substitution mutants defined the PRB and PRC as containing positive and negative regulatory elements, respectively. Human breast carcinoma MCF-7 cells were cotransfected with a hepatocyte nuclear factor-1 (HNF-1) expression vector and CYP1A2 promoter-or thymidine kinase promoter-luciferase remoter gene constructs. HNF-1, which contributes to the liver specificity of genes, enhanced reporter gene activity in a PRC sequence-dependent manner. These results suggested that PRC could exist bound to a repressor which was displaceable by other transcription factors such as HNF-1. Results obtained by transfection of HepG2 hepatoma cells with various PRB substitution mutant-luciferase gene fusion constructs indicated that the entire sequence of PRB was necessary for promoter activity. Consequently, the regulation of CYP1A3 expression is very complex, requiring a number of both positive and negative regulatory factors.
