Acute Ischemic Stroke Involving Both Anterior and Posterior Circulation Treated by Endovascular Revascularization for Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion via Persistent Primitive Trigeminal Artery

  • We report a case of acute ischemic stroke involving both the anterior and posterior circulation associated with a persistent primitive trigeminal artery (PPTA), treated by endovascular revascularization for acute basilar artery (BA) occlusion via the PPTA. An otherwise healthy 67-year-old man experienced sudden loss of consciousness and quadriplegia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an extensive acute infarction in the right cerebral hemisphere, and magnetic resonance angiography showed occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery (MCA) and BA. Because the volume of infarction in the territory of the right MCA was extensive, we judged the use of intravenous tissue plasminogen activator to be contraindicated. Cerebral angiography revealed hypoplasia of both vertebral arteries and the presence of a PPTA from the right internal carotid artery. A microcatheter was introduced into the BA via the PPTA and revascularization was successfully performed using a Merci Retriever with adjuvant low-dose intraarterial urokinase. After treatment, his consciousness level and right motor weakness improved. Although persistent carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomoses such as a PPTA are relatively rare vascular anomalies, if the persistent primitive artery is present, it can be an access route for mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke.

  • Lever II 헬리콥터 비행운동 방정식으로부터 주기성 트림해를 구하기 위해 DAE 해법에 근거한 PPTA(Partial Periodic Trimming Algorithm)를 제안하였다. PPTA의 반복계산으로 수정된 상태변수는 적합한 초기조건이 요구되는 DAE해법에서 수치불안정을 일으킬 수 있다. 간단하게 DAE 차수를 조절함으로써 정확한 주기성 트림을 얻을 수 있었다. 수치해법을 CBM(Common Baseline Model) 헬리콥터에 적용하여 harmonic balance 방법과 동일한 트림해를 얻었으며 시뮬레이션 초기의 과도응답을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있음을 밝혔다.

Comparison study of the effect of blending method on PVDF/PPTA blend membrane structure and performance

  • A novel hydrophilic poly (vinylidene fluoride)/poly (p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PVDF/PPTA) blend membrane was prepared by in situ polycondensation of p-phenylene diamine (PPD) and terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) in PVDF solution with subsequent nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) process. For comparison, conventional solution blend membrane was prepared directly by adding PVDF powder into PPTA polycondensation solution. Blend membranes were characterized by means of viscometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The effects of different blending methods on membrane performance including water contact angle (WCA), mechanical strength, anti-fouling and anti-compression properties were investigated and compared. Stronger interactions between PVDF and PPTA in in situ blend membranes were verified by viscosity and XPS analysis. The incorporation of PPTA accelerated the demixing rate and caused the formation of a more porous structure in blend membranes. In situ blend membranes exhibited better hydrophilicity and higher tensile strength. The optimal values of WCA and tensile strength were $65^{\circ}$ and 34.1 MPa, which were reduced by 26.1% and increased by 26.3% compared with pure PVDF membrane. Additionally, antifouling properties of in situ blend membranes were greatly improved than pure PVDF membrane with an increasing of flux recovery ratio by 25%. Excellent anti-compression properties were obtained in in situ blend membranes with a stable pore morphology. The correlations among membrane formation mechanism, structure and performance were also discussed.

PPTA/PVDF blend membrane integrated process for treatment of spunlace nonwoven wastewater

  • Hydrophilic and high modulus PPTA molecules were incorporated into PVDF matrix via the in situ polymerization of PPD and TPC in PVDF solution. PPTA/PVDF/NWF blend membrane was prepared through the immersion precipitation phase inversion method and nonwoven coating technique. The membrane integrated technology including PPTA/PVDF/NWF blend membrane and reverse osmosis (RO) membrane was employed to treat the polyester/viscose spunlace nonwoven process wastewater. During the consecutive running of six months, the effects of membrane integrated technology on the COD, ammonia nitrogen, suspended substance and pH value of water were studied. The results showed that the removal rate of COD, ammonia nitrogen and suspended substance filtered by PPTA/PVDF blend membrane was kept above 90%. The pH value of the permeate water was about 7.1 and the relative water flux of blend membrane remained above 90%. After the deep treatment of RO membrane, the permeate water quality can meet the water circulation requirement of spunlace process.

Direct Carotid Cavernous Fistula of an Adult-Type Persistent Primitive Trigeminal Artery with Multiple Vascular Variations

  • We report a case of spontaneous right carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) in a proximal segment of persistent primitive trigeminal artery (PPTA) and combined vascular anomalies such as left duplicated hypoplastic proximal posterior cerebral arteries and a variation of anterior choroidal artery supplying temporal and occipital lobe. A 45-year-old male presented with progressive right exophthalmos, diplopia, and ocular pain. With manual compression of the internal carotid artery, a cerebral angiography revealed a right CCF from a PPTA. Treatment involved the placement of detachable non-fibered and fibered coils, and use of a hyperglide balloon to protect against coil herniation into the internal carotid artery. A final angiograph revealed complete occlusion of PPTA resulted in no contrast filling of CCF.

폴리히드라존계 킬레이트 고분자의 합성과 특성 (Synthesis and Characterization of Chelated Polymers of Polyhydrazones)

  • $p^-$, $m^-$, o-phthalaldehyde 및 5,5'-methylene-bis-salicyl aldehyde (PPTA, MPTA, OPTA, MBSA)와 5,5'-methylene-bis-salicylic dihydrazide, terephthalic dihydrazide 및 sebacic dihydrazide(MBSDH, TDH 및 SDH)등의 디히드라지드 화합물을 DMF-$CH_3COOH$ 혼합용액 중에서 축합반응으로 몇가지 새로운 폴리히드라존을 합성하였다. 합성한 폴리히드라존과 그의 금속킬레이트의 용해성, 흡수스펙트라 및 열적성질에 대하여 검토하였다. OPTA와 MBSDH의 반응으로 얻어진 폴리히드라존을 제외한 폴리히드라존과 그의 금속킬레이트는 일반적으로 보통 유기용매에 불응성이었다. 폴리히드라존의 중량열분석 결과 250-350$^{\circ}$C 사이에서 10%의 중량감소가 일어났고 500$^{\circ}$C고 500 폴리히드라존의 중량열분석 결과 250~350$^{\circ}$C 사이에서 10%의 중량감소가 일어났고 500$^{\circ}$C에서 32.5~63.5% 범위의 잔유중량을 나타내었다. 합성한 폴리히드라존 중에서 PPTA-MBSDH(IIa)및 MBSA-MBSDH(IIIa)가 열분해온도가 비교적 높았으며 IIa의 금속킬레이트에 있어서는 Zn(II)-IIa>Ni(II)-IIa>Co(II)-IIa>Cu(II)-IIa의 순서로 열분해온도가 저하되었다.

THE PARKES PULSAR TIMING ARRAY PROJECT

  • The main goals of the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array (PPTA) project are to 1) detect ultra-low-frequency gravitational waves, 2) improve the solar system planetary ephemeris and 3) provide a long-term, stable time standard. In this paper, we highlight the main results from the project so far and discuss our expectations for the future.

  • Micromechanical 시험법과 음향방출을 이용하여 산소 플라즈마 처리된 PBO와 Kevlar 섬유강화 에폭시 복합재료의 계면물성과 미세파괴메카니즘을 고찰하여 상호 비교하였다. 산소 플라즈마 처리된 PBO와 Kevlar 섬유강화 에폭시 복합재료의 계면전단강도와 접착일은 극성 작용기의 도입으로 향상 시킬 수 있었다. 임계표면장력과 총 표면자유에너지 중 극성 표면자유에너지는 플라즈마 처리된 Kevlar 섬유에서 가장 컸으며. 미처리된 PBO의 섬유의 경우에서 가장 작았다. Microfibril 파단 형상은 산소 플라즈마 처리된 Keviar 섬유의 경우에서는 명확하게 관찰 되었으며. 미처리와 비교차여 microfibril 파단이 대각선 방향으로 연속적해서 일어나 가장 많은 섬유 파단 신호가 감지되었다 비파괴 음향방출법을 이용하여 얻은 섬유파단 감지 결과는 microdroplet과 두 섬유강화 복합재료 시험법에서 광학현미경을 이용하여 관찰한 미세파단 형상과 상호 일치하였다.

Modification of ginsenoside saponin composition via the CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout of protopanaxadiol 6-hydroxylase gene in Panax ginseng

  • Background: The roots of Panax ginseng contain two types of tetracyclic triterpenoid saponins, namely, protopanaxadiol (PPD)-type saponins and protopanaxatiol (PPT)-type saponins. In P. ginseng, the protopanaxadiol 6-hydroxylase (PPT synthase) enzyme catalyses protopanaxatriol (PPT) production from protopanaxadiol (PPD). In this study, we constructed homozygous mutant lines of ginseng by CRISPR/Cas9-mediated mutagenesis of the PPT synthase gene and obtained the mutant ginseng root lines having complete depletion of the PPT-type ginsenosides. Methods: Two sgRNAs (single guide RNAs) were designed for target mutations in the exon sequences of the two PPT synthase genes (both PPTa and PPTg sequences) with the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Transgenic ginseng roots were generated through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The mutant lines were screened by ginsenoside analysis and DNA sequencing. Result: Ginsenoside analysis revealed the complete depletion of PPT-type ginsenosides in three putative mutant lines (Cr4, Cr7, and Cr14). The reduction of PPT-type ginsenosides in mutant lines led to increased accumulation of PPD-type ginsenosides. The gene editing in the selected mutant lines was confirmed by targeted deep sequencing. Conclusion: We have established the genome editing protocol by CRISPR/Cas9 system in P. ginseng and demonstrated the mutated roots producing only PPD-type ginsenosides by depleting PPT-type ginsenosides. Because the pharmacological activity of PPD-group ginsenosides is significantly different from that of PPT-group ginsenosides, the new type of ginseng mutant producing only PPD-group ginsenosides may have new pharmacological characteristics compared to wild-type ginseng. This is the first report to generate target-induced mutations for the modification of saponin biosynthesis in Panax species using CRISPR-Cas9 system.

Sulfonated Poly(ether sulfone)과 p-Phenylene Terephthalamide 세그먼트를 포함하는 가교 공중합체 멤브레인의 제조 및 특성 연구 (Preparation and Characterization of Crosslinked Copolymer Membrane Containing Sulfonated Poly(ether sulfone) and p-Phenylene Terephthalamide Segments)

  • 열적 안정성과 기계적 강도에서 우수한 장점을 지니고 있는 파라계 aramid 세그먼트와 제막 특성이 우수하고 내 가수분해성이 우수한 sulfone 세그먼트로 이루어진 공중합체를 이용하여 연료 전지용 막으로써의 응용가능성을 연구하였다. 아라미드 고분자의 용해도를 향상시키기 위해 아민기를 갖는 sulfonated ether sulfone 단량체와 p-phenylene diamine 그리고 terephthaloyl chloride를 일정한 순서로 반응시켜 아민으로 말단화된 공중합체를 합성하고 이것을 epoxy group을 함유하고 있는 trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether(TMPTGE)와 열 가교를 통해 고분자 전해절막으로 제조되었으며, 전구체의 합성을 비롯한 각 단계의 반응은 $^lH$ NMR, FTIR, 및 적정에 의하여 확인되었다. 얻어진 전해질막은 이온교환용량과 함수율, 수소이온전도도 등이 측정되었으며 sulfonated ether sulfone 단량체의 함유량이 증가할수록 이온교환용량, 함수율, 수소이온전도도가 증가하는 것이 관찰되었다. Sulfonic acid sulfone 세그먼트를 60 몰%로 갖는 고분자 전해질막의 경우 이온교환용량이 1.88 meq/g, 함수율은 110wt% 이하의 수치를 보였으며, 가장 높은 수소이온전도도의 값은 상대습도 100%, $25^{\circ}C$에서 $7.4{\times}10^{-2}$ S/cm이었다.
