Improvements of Impact strength in Glass Fiber/Polypropylene Composite by Silane Coupling Agents (실란커플링제에 의한 유리섬유/폴리프로필렌 복합재료의 충격강도 증가에 관한 연구)

  • Effect of coupling agent on the mechanical properties of PP/GF blend was investigated. The flexural modulus, Izod impact strength, elongation at yield and tensile strength were improved with using coupling agent. Mopological studies revealed that PP and GF were incompatible and addition of coupling agent was very effective to enhance the compatibility, result in mechanical properties.

  • A unique crystallization behavior of poly(L-lactide)(PLLA)/poly(D-lactide)(PDLA) stereocomplex(SC) was observed when a PLLA/PDLA blend was subjected to the specific melting conditions. Therefore, we tried to blend PLLA and PDLA at overall composition to form PLA stereocomplexes. Moreover, impact modifier and reinforcement materials such as talc and glass fiber added to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties such as impact strength and heat distortion temperature(HDT). As a result, we got one representative result, one composite recipe with HDT $115^{\circ}C$. For more economic technology, we tried to blend PLLA and Polypropylene at overall composition and we got another representative result which could be applied to current PP/talc composites and ABS materials. The core technology of this might be the well dispersion of glass fibers into the matrix resin such as PP, PLLA and impact strength modifier.

  • It is well known that the interaction and adhesion between the glass fiber (GF) and polymer matrix has a significant effect in determining the properties of fiber-reinforced materials. Therefore, it is one of important considerations to modify the surface of glass fiber with an appropriate sizing. We investigated the treatment method of glass fiber with coupling agent to improve the interaction of the interfacial region. The correlation between interfacial property and interphase microstructure was also examined in an attempt to realize a proper morphology at the glass fiber surfaces.
