  • Tourism has always played an important role in socio-economic development in Vietnam and in many countries around the world. Tourism is also an industry that has attracted a large number of workers in the past two decades in Vietnam in general and territories in particular. Over the past two decades, tourism in the southern Red River sub-region has created thousands of jobs for local workers and neighboring provinces. The study aims to examine the factors affecting the employment decision of workers in the tourism industry in the South Red River sub-region. Using a pilot study surveying 10 workers in three provinces to adjust the questionnaire and a sample data of 193 observations were performed. The experimental results prove that the independent variables explain 64% of the variation of the dependent variable, and other reasons can explain the rest (36%). Research results show that four factors, namely, welfare (WE), working conditions (IN), the potential for tourism development (POT), and development policy (POL) have a positive impact on the employment decision of workers. Meanwhile, the two factors that are tourism cooperation (CO)and Education (EDU), have an insignificant impact on the employment decision of workers in the southern Red River sub-region.

  • We plan to visit the Apophis, a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA). Apophis will have an extremely close encounter with the Earth on April, 2029. At the closest position, Apophis approaches 0.1 lunar distances from the Earth. The science goals are 1) mapping the surface of the asteroid before and after the encounter, 2) measuring surface roughness before and after the encounter, and 3) measuring interplanetary space environments such as magnetic field and dust particles. For the science goal, we are planning to employ five instruments for this mission, which are Polarimetric Asteroid Camera (PolACam), Asteroid Terrain Mapping Camera (MapCam), Laser Altimeter, Dust Particle Detector (DPDetector), Magnetometer (Mag). In this presentation, we plan to give a talk on the instruments.

  • We present the results of polarization observations at submillimeter wavelengths towards Monoceros R2 (Mon R2). The polarized thermal dust emission was obtained from SCUBA-2/POL-2 at 450 ㎛ and 850 ㎛, simultaneously. This observation is a part of the JCMT BISTRO survey project. The polarization angle distributions at 450 ㎛ and 850 ㎛ are similar and the mean value of angle differences at two wavelengths is 5.5 degrees. The Mon R2 is one of massive star-forming regions containing a clear hub-filamentary structure. The hub region shows star formation activities, and surrounding filaments provide channels for matters to move into the hub region. It is not well known the role of magnetic fields in a hub-filamentary structure. Some studies have shown well-ordered polarization segments along a filamentary structure and magnetic field morphology traced by polarization segments is interpreted as to help gas flow along the filamentary structrue. Our observations shows that filaments in Mon R2 have spiral structure and the magnetic field lines are parallel to the filaments. We interpret that the spiral structure can be formed by a rotation hub-filament system with gas flowing along the filaments to the hub. We found several dust clumps at the central part of the hub region of the Mon R2. They seems to be formed at locations where spiral field lines meet each other. These results show one observational example that a magnetic field play a role in gas flow.

  • Phylogenetic studies of nef, pol, and env gene sequences of HIV-1 isolated from Koreans suggested the presence of a Korean clade in which Korean sequences are clustered to the exclusion of foreign sequences. We attempted to identify and characterize the Korean clade using all vif gene sequences isolated from Koreans registered in the NCBI GenBank database (n = 233). Most (77 %) of the Korean isolates belonged to the Korean clade as a large subcluster in subtype B, designated the Korean clade subtype B ($K_{C}B$). $K_{C}B$ sequences were relatively homogenous compared to Korean subtype B sequences that did not belong to the $K_{C}B$ (non-Korean clade subtype B; $NK_{C}B$). Comparison of amino acid frequencies of $K_{C}B$ and $NK_{C}B$ sequences revealed several positions where the amino acid frequencies were significantly different. These amino acid residues were critical in separating $K_{C}B$ from $NK_{C}B$ or from foreign sequences, since substitution of these amino acids in $K_{C}B$ with the $NK_{C}B$ amino acids relocated the $K_{C}B$ sequences to $NK_{C}B$, and vice versa. Further analyses of $K_{C}B$ will help us to understand the origin and evolutionary history of $K_{C}B$.

  • Synchronized cat kidney cells chronically infected with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) were used to study virus production, the synthesis of group specific antigen (gag) and envelope (env) proteins, the expression of env protein on the cell surface during the cell cycle, and the stability of viral RNA. As detecting method, we developed the radioimmunoassay (RIA) system using beta-emission of $^{131}I$ and demonstrated the validity of this system by comparison with routine RIA system using gamma-emission of $^{125}I$. The produced virus was analysed by developed RIA interval was determined by measuring reverse transcriptase activity. The results show that infected cells produce the complete virus particle containing products of gag, env and pol genes of FeLV, and maximum virus production occurs during mitosis of synchronized cells. Labeling of the cell surface of synchronized cells with $^{131}I$ shows that the amount of $gp70^{env}$ on the cell surface parallels cellular gorwth. Therefore, the cell cycle-dependent release of virus is not petition RIA of synchronized cells with $^{131}I$ labeled viral proteins synthesis during the cell cycle. The rate of synthesis of gag protein shows three peaks, corresponding to the $G_1,\;late\;S\;and\;late\;G_2$ phases of cell cycle. But the rate of synthesis of env protein dose not change, suggesting that in these cells the synthesis of these two gene products in controlled seperately. In Actionomycin D treated cells, the synthesis of viral proteins decreased sharply from 8 hours after treatment, and the late S and $G_2$ peaks of gag protein synthesis were disappeared. This shows the stability of viral RNA for about 6 hours in the absence of continuing viral RNA synthesis.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the farm situation about bovine leukemia virus(BLV) infection that greatly influence productivity in dairy cattle and compare the accuracy of diagnosis for BLV infection between PCR and ELISA techniques. Blood samples of 193 heads from 5 herds in Chungnam and Chungbuk area were used to analyze BLV gene and serum, and the results were obtained as follows. The amplified BLV gene in dairy cattle by PCR technique resulted in 226 bp, 596 bp and 434 bp, respectively, for gag, pol and env, which were well amplified. The infection rates of BLV virus diagnosed by PCR and ELISA techniques ranged from 80.55 to 100% and from 22.22 to 86.95%, respectively, and the infection rates among 5 herds were significantly different in both methods (P<0.05). Further, the average infection rates of 5 herds were 87.05 and 63.21%, respectively, for PCR and ELISA techniques. Kappa statistics for examining consistency of diagnosis by PCR and ELISA techniques showed 0.246, which represents low consistency. Consequently, PCR based BLV technique was considered as a corrective measure for diagnosis of BLV infection in Holstein dairy cattle.

  • DNA polymerases without the 3' exonuclease function ($exo^-$ pol) have been widely used in sequencing and SNP genotyping. As a major player that expedited the coming of the postgenomic era, $exo^-$ polymerases worked remarkably well in the Human Genome Sequencing Project. However, it has become a challenge for this class of polymerases to efficiently screen the large number of SNPs that are found in the human genome. For more than three decades it has been recognized that polymerase fidelity varied according to the presence of proofreading activity that is mediated by its internal 3' exonuclease. Polymerases with proofreading function are famous for their high fidelity in DNA replication both in vivo and in vitro, but this well-known class of polymerases has been almost completely neglected in genetic analysis in the postgenomic era. We speculate that $exo^+$ polymerases may exhibit higher nucleotide identification ability when compared to $exo^-$ polymerases for an in vitro genetic analysis. With the application of $exo^+$ polymerases in SNP assays, a novel mechanism for the maintenance of DNA replication, the on/off switch, was discovered. Two new SNP assays have been developed to carry out genome-wide genotyping, taking advantage of the enzymatic properties of $exo^+$ polymerases. Furthermore, the on/off switch mechanism embodies a powerful nucleotide identification ability, which can be used to discriminate the bases that are upstream of the 3' terminus, and thus defines a new concept in de novo sequencing technology. Application of $exo^+$ polymerases to genetic analysis, and especially SNP assays, will greatly accelerate the pace to personalized medicine.

  • In this paper we propose a WATM MAC protocol called DTDD/PS (Dynamic Time Division Duplex using Poll/Select scheme). The idea of the DTDD/PS protocol is based that a radio cell is considered as queueing system. The MAC controller in base station is charged in coordinating terminals for the QoS requirement from each terminal. For that reason, terminals send it's own dynamic parameter represented its status, and controller controls the access of terminals and assigns time slots dynamically using received parameters. Therefore this system can satisfy the QoS of real-time service in wireless environments. To evaluate DTDD/PS protocol simulations are executed. In 25Mbps channel capacity, the voice and data coexist traffic situation, as the total number of terminal is increased, the delay of data terminals is increased rapidly. But the case of only increasing data terminals, the number of supported voice terminals is not varying. Therefore we can expect that DTDD/PS protocol can applied to multimedia traffic effectively.

  • Almost all currently available retroviral vectors based on murine leukemia virus (MLV) contain one or more viral coding sequences. Because these sequences are also present in the packaging genome, it has been suggested that homologous recombination may occur between the same nucleotide sequence in the packaging genome and the vector, resulting in the production of replication competent retrovirus (RCR). Up until now, it has been difficult to completely remove viral coding sequences since some were thought to be involved in the optimum function of the retroviral vector. For example, the gag coding sequence present in almost all available retroviral vectors has been believed to be necessary for efficient viral packaging, while the pol coding sequence present in the highly efficient vector MFG has been thought to be involved in achieving the high levels of gene expression. However, we have now developed a series of retroviral vectors that are absent of any retroviral coding sequences but produce even higher levels of gene expression without compromising viral titer. In these vectors, the intron and exon sequences from heterologous cellular or viral genes are present. When compared to the well known MLV-based vectors, some of these newly developed vectors have been shown to produce significantly higher levels of gene expression for a longer period. In an experimental system that can maximize the production of RCR, our newly constructed vectors produced an absence of RCR. These vectors should prove to be safer than other currently available retroviral vectors containing one or more viral coding sequences.

  • A number of chemical released into the environment eliciting their effects by disrupting normal hormonal pathways. Endocrine disrupting compounds are present in the aquatic environment and pose potential health consequences to wildlife and humans. This review are designing fur xenobiotic estrogens based on induction of the egg-yolk precursor protein vitelloge-nin. In fish of aquatic environment, it may result in decrease fertility and egg production in females or lead to reduced gonad size or feminization of genetic male fish. It has been known that male fish exposed to estrogenic compounds show induced production of vitellogenin. Vitello-genin production is normally restricted to adult females, which have elevated estrogen levels during egg production. However, vitellogenin can be induced in males by Pollution of environmental endocrine disruptors. Consequently, the presence of vitellogenin in male fish can serve as an indicator of exposure of environmental endocrine disrupting compounds. In immature fish pol-luted at low levels of environmental endocrine disrupter, vitellogenin can serve as a reliable biomarker for exposure to endocrine disrupter. This review demonstrates the utility of vitellogenin as a biomarker fur exposure to estrogenin agents in auqatic environment.
