Design of Brushless Permanent Machine with Skewed Stator for Electrical Power Steering System (전동 조향 장치용 브러쉬리스 영구자석 전동기의 스테이터 스큐 설계)

  • As enforced the regulation of fuel efficiency, the electrification of automotive components in internal combustion vehicle has been applied instead of hydraulic pressure. A typical example of such parts is the EPS (electric power steering), and it is applied to most automotive at present. In electric power steering system, the core component is motor. The reduction of cogging torque and torque ripple is required to improve steering feeling and reduce NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) in EPS. Generally the skewed design of stator or rotor is applied in order to reduce cogging torque and torque ripple. This paper propose the design and analysis methodology of Brusheless PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which is applied to skewed stator. The proposed methodology is as follows: First Intial Design PMSM with skewed stator for EPS, Second Optimal design using RSM (Response surface method), Third Performance Analysis such as Phase Back EMF, Inductance, Load torque using FEA (Finite Element Method). Finally, the reliability of proposed design methodology will be verified through the experiments of prototype sample.

Conceptual Design of Electric-Pump Motor for 50kW Rocket Engine (50kW급 로켓 엔진용 전기펌프 모터의 개념 설계)

  • Electric pump system is new technology for next generation propulsion unit. The system has simple structure which dose not need gas generator, injector and turbine and might better pump for low cost and low payload rocket. Therefore, this paper suggests conceptual design of electric-pump Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which has 50 kW & 50,000 RPM for rocket. To satisfy the system's requirement, electromagnetic analysis is conducted for suitable inner and outer diameter of stator and rotor which uses 4000 Gauss cylinder magnet and Inconel 718 can to fix whole rotor. Futhermore, to confirm rotational vibration, rotordynamics analysis is conducted. By this analysis, Campbell diagram is printed. From the diagram, natural frequency could be determined for the only motor and dynamo meter test bench.

  • In this paper, a new torque predictive control method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor is developed based on an extended rotor flux. Also, a duty ratio prediction method is proposed and allows the duty ratio of the active stator voltage vector to be continuously calculated. The proposed method makes it possible to relatively reduce the torque ripple under the steady state as well as to remain the good dynamic response in the transient state. With the duty ratio prediction method, the magnitude and time interval of the active stator voltage vector applied can be continuously controlled against the varying operation conditions. This paper shows a comparative study among the switching table direct torque control(DTC), the SVM-DTC, conventional torque predictive control, and the proposed torque predictive control. Simulation results show validity and effectiveness of this work.

  • Single-layer winding configuration in a 12-slot 10-pole Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) has been adopting in electrical power steering (EPS) systems to get the high fault tolerance capability of the motor. However, the motor with single-layer winding has magnetic circuit saturations in the teeth, which deteriorates its performance. In this paper, we propose asymmetric teeth widths to get over the demerit, and analyze the effect of the teeth width ratio variations on the performances of the PMSM. As a result, we suggest the most valuable teeth width ratio for designing the PMSM with a single-layer winding configuration.

  • Open-phase fault in a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) occurs due to disconnection of phases of motor windings or inverter switch failures. When an open-phase occurs, it leads to the generation of torque ripples and vibrations in the motor, which can have a critical impact on the safety of the vehicle (including aircraft) using a PMSM as an actuator. Therefore, rapid fault detection and classification are essential. This paper proposes a classification method for detecting open-phase faults and locating fault positions in a PMSM used in aircraft applications. The proposed approach uses an Extended Kalman Filter for fault diagnosis, and it subsequently classifies faults using a Multiple Model filter.

  • A sensorless speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) which utilizes MRAS based scheme to estimate rotor speed and position is presented. Considering an error between real and estimated rotor position values, a state equation of PMSM in the synchronous d-q reference frame is represented. A state equation of model system which uses estimated speed and nominal parameter values is expressed. To minimize the errors between the derivatives of d-q axis currents of real and model system, MRAS based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of rotor speed and position are derived. On the other hand, for the acceleration stage of motor just before the sensorless operation, an acceleration scheme using only d-axis current control is proposed. To show the validity of the proposed scheme, experimental works are carried out and evaluated. During acceleration stage, the acceleration scheme using only d-axis current command shows good acceleration performance and controlled current level. For the sensorless operation, at low speed (5% of rated speed), a good performance is observed.

  • In this paper, the different techniques for the field weakening, also known as constant power speed range (CPSR) operation, for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) will be introduced and analysed. Field weakening of PMSM, can be done using either vector control (VC) or conventional phase in advance (CPA). Implementation of these techniques depending on some features and constrains. Most of these features and constrains came from the motor parameters. One of these constrains is the motor inductance which determining whether the motor can be driven in the CPSR or not. A new approach for the field weakening will be discussed and to be verified to overcome this constrain. The new approach will be verified through both techniques VC and CPA.

  • A DSP-based nonlinear speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) which is robust to unknown parameter variations and speed measurement error is presented. The model reference adaptive system(MRAS) based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of slowly varying parameters are derived using the Lyapunov stability theory. For the disturbances or quickly varying parameters, a quasi-linearized and decoupled model including the influence of parameter variations and speed measurement error on the nonlinear speed control of the PMSM is derived. Based on this model, a boundary layer integral sliding mode controller to improve the robustness and performance of a PMSM drive is designed and compared with the conventional controller. To show the validity of the proposed control scheme, simulations and experimental works are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.

To show the validity of the proposed control scheme, simulations and experimental works are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.
