In this research, we have worked about the radiation thermometer which can be applied to the hazard circumstance such as steel plant. In the results, we have developed radiation thermometer of a measuring range $500-1500^{\circ}C$, accuracy ${\pm}0.1%$, repeatability ${\pm}0.1%$, resolution $0.2^{\circ}C$. We performed extensive field test for 6 months at the hot strip mill in steel plant. Through the test, we have confirmed the reliability of the developed pyrometer.
The experimental methods to rapidly and stably reproduce Microbially Influenced Corrosion (MIC) of stainless steel by sulfate-reducing bacteria such as Desulfovibrio vulgaris were developed. In this study, using two types of stainless steel, 304 and 444, obtained from Pohang Steel & Iron Co., Ltd. (POSCO)., three major factors were tested; overall medium composition, dilution ratio, and chloride concentration. In the overall medium tests, three different media were prepared according to $FeSO_4$ concentration; PM (original Postgate's medium No. 2), MPM 1 (modified PM, no $FeSO_4$, MPM 2 (modified PM, 1/10 $FeSO_4$). The effects of various dilution ratios (3, 1, 1/3, 1/10, 1/30, and 1/100 times) and chloride concentrations (0.0067M, 0.01M, 0.05M, and 0.1M) were examined during 2 months cultivation. Through SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) observation, the diluted and modified media, particularly the $1/3{\times}MPM$ I medium, showed more micro-pitting points on surfaces compared to the original PM medium. High concentrations of chloride ions (above 0.05M) were not adequate for observation of MIC since those brought about non-microbiologically induced corrosion. From this study, the optimization of medium composition was very effective to routinely observe MIC in a laboratory system.

This paper describes an analytical study on nonlinear hysteretic behavior of hybrid steel beam with reinforced concrete ends. Two types of analytical model, Polygonal Model[PM] and Hybrid Model[HM], were used to represent the nonlinear hysteretic behavior PM used three parameters, HM used an additional parameter to consider the initial stiffness reduction. The parameters calibrated comparing the hysteretic performance obtained from experiments. The purpose of this study is to develop an analytical model which can take into account the initial stiffness reduction of the hybrid members and to represent exactly the hysteretic performance for the hybrid structures with RC and steel. The analytical study showed PM tends to overestimate initial stiffness and strength. However, HM which is capable to consider the initial stiffness reduction gave good prediction on initial stiffness, post-yielding performance, strength, pinching response and so on.
The effects of added elements, such as Co or Nb, on wear properties of high speed steel by powder metaliurgy(PM-HSS) had been eluminated in auther's previous paper. In addition, it is generally known that the wear properties of materials have been influenced by heat-treating conditions as well. Therefore, a study has been done to clarify the effects of heat-treating conditions on wear properties of PM-HSS. The wear tests have been performed under the same conditions as the previous paper using heat-treated PM-HSS(5%Co-1%Nb) with different quenching and tempering temperatures. The result of this paper shows that wear resistance of PM-HSS is improved with relatively high quenching temperature. However, tempering temperature is not sensitive to the wear resistance in the range of high quenching temperature. It may be deduced by the fact that the shear strength of matrix by strengthening mechanisms due to not only the quenching aging but also dispersion-hardening is improved.
CD4MCU duplex stainless steel with gadolinium was fabricated as a neutron absorbing material by the air induction melting method. The gadolinium formed intermetallic compounds of Cu-Gd-Fe. There were no significant differences in hardness or ultimate tensile strength between experimental alloys. With the addition of gadolinium the yield strength of the cast alloy significantly increased, from $478.8{\pm}11.6$ to $514.2{\pm}29.9MPa$, whereas elongation of the cast alloy decreased with the addition of gadolinium, from $26.0{\pm}7.1$ to $7.0{\pm}2.5%$ due to the formation of gadolinium based intermetallic compounds.
To investigate the applicability of automated ball indentation (ABI) tests in the evaluation of the tensile properties of cast stainless steel (CSS), ABI tests were performed on four types of unaged CSS and on 316 stainless steel, all of which had a different microstructure and strength. The reliability of ABI test data was analyzed by evaluating the data scattering of the ABI test and by comparing tensile properties obtained from the ABI test and the tensile test. The results show that the degree of scattering of the ABI test data is reasonably acceptable in comparison with that of standard tensile data, when two points data that exhibit out-of-trend are excluded from five to seven points data tested on a specimen. In addition, the scattering decreases slightly as the content of ${\delta}-ferrite$ in CSS increases. Moreover, the ABI test can directly measure the flow parameters of CSS with error bounds of about ${\pm}10\%$ for the ultimate tensile stress and the strength coefficient, and about ${\pm}15\%$ for the yield stress and the strain hardening exponent. The accuracy of the ABI test data is independent of the amount of ${\delta}-ferrite$ in the CSS.

In order to evaluate the effect of Nb on wear properties of high speed steel by powder metallurgy(PM-HSS), niobium-alloyed PM-HSS have been prepared by adding 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%Nb to PM-HSS of 6%W-5%Mo-4%Cr-5%V-5%Co presented in the previous paper. Sliding wear test have been conducted in various sliding speed conditions under the constant pressure using a pin-on-disc type machine. The results of this study shows that the wear resistance of PM-HSS has been increased by the addition of Nb in the range of experimental sliding speed. However, the amount of Nb shows to be unimportant parameter for the improvement of the wear resistance. It may be due to the thermal stability of carbide and high temperature properties of matrix by adding Nb comparing to the case of no addition.

The characteristics of residual stresses occurring in PM steel based nickel (FLN2-4405) was investigated. The measurements of residual stresses were carried out by electrochemical layer removal technique. The values and distributions of residual stresses occurring in PM steel processed under various densities and heat treatment conditions were determined. In most of the experiments, tensile residual stresses were recorded in surface of samples. The residual stress distribution on the surface of the PM steels is affected by the heat treatment conditions and density. Maximum values of residual stresses on the surface were observed sinter hardened condition and $7.4\;g/cm^3$ density. Minimum level of recorded tensile residual stresses are150 MPa and its maximum level is 370 MPa.
The physical properties of seven sizes of control groups and experimental group in stainless steel orthodontic wires were studied in tension, hardness, bending, torsion and observation of microstructure. The wires (0.40-0.90mm dia.) of round type were tested in the as-received condition. The wires of control groups were TRU-CHROME and REMANIUM, and experimental group was SK wire which was developed by ourselves and made in Korea. The results were as follows; 1. The chemical compositions of control groups and experimental group were austenite stainless steel wires of SOS 304. 2. Higher values of tensile and yield strength in tension were control group I, experimental group, control group II. Maximum tensile and yield strength of experimental group were $203.63{\pm}1.41kg/mm^2$ in 0.70mm diameter and $148.96{\pm}4.88kg/mm^2$ in 0.60mm diameter, and maximum elongation was $5.20{\pm}0.57%$ in 0.45mm diameter. 3. Hardness values of experimental group were similar to control groups. Maximum hardness values were $596.2{\pm}13.66Hv$ in 0.45mm diameter wire of control group I, $590.5{\pm}20.08Hv$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group II, and $563.6{\pm}5.35Hv$ in 0.70mm diameter wire of experimental group. 4. Torsion properties of experimental group were similar to control group I and more than control group II. Maximum torsion cycles were $31.8{\pm}2.48$ in 0.45mm diameter of control group I, $17.4{\pm}4.84$ in 0.60mm diameter of control group II, and $24.6{\pm}3.04$ in 0.45mm diameter of experimental group. 5. Maximum bending cycles of experimental group were smaller than control groups. Maximum bending cycles were $9.00{\pm}0.00$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of control group I, $10.0{\pm}0.82$ in 0.40mm diameter wire of control group II, and $8.0{\pm}1.26$ in 0.50mm diameter wire of experimental group. 6. Microstructures of experimental and control groups co-existed with martensited austenite structure and elongated austenite structure. 7. The direction of wire fracture was propagated parallel to torsion direction typically and there was no probability showing wire fracture at inclusions and surface scratches. 8. The type of wire fracture was brittle fracture at initiation site and ductile fracture at core.
