Development of High Current Shunt Regulator for Beam Based Alignment in PLS 2GeV Storage Ring (포항방사광가속기 빔위치 정렬 용 정밀전원장치 개발)

  • Total 144 quadrupole magnets are installed in PLS. The magnets are connected in series with groups of two or 24. Each group is powered by a high-precision constant-current DC power supply. For the purpose of the beam based alignment of beam position monitors in the PLS, it is necessary to adjust the current of each quadrupole independently. To achieve this, a high current shunt regulator is designed. It can shunt a maximum 50 A of the quadrupole magnet current. The shunt regulator is programmable and the current amplitude can be varied linearly with a 12-bit resolution. Power transistors are used in the current shunt regulator. The operation of transistors is in linear region. The RS232C protocol is used for remote control and status report of the shunt regulator to the main control centre of the PLS. Preliminary result indicates that the calibration accuracy of the beam position monitor can be achievable in less than $10{\mu}m$.

Analysis of a Dynamic PLS of the Biped Walking RGO-Robot for a Trainning of Rehabilitation (척수마비 재활훈련용 이족보행 RGO 로봇의 Dynam ic PLS 생체역학적 특성분석 <응력해석과 FEM을 중심으로>)

  • This paper presents a design and a control of a biped walking RGO-robot and dynamic walking simulation for this system. The biped walking RGO-robot is distinguished from other one by which has a very light-weight and a new AGO type with servo motors. The gait of a biped walking RGO-robot depends on the constrains of mechanical kinematics and initial posture. The stability of dynamic walking is investigated by ZMP(Zero Moment Point) of the biped walking RGO-robot. It is designed according to a human wear type and is able to accomodate itself to human environments. The joints of each leg are adopted with a good kinematic characteristics. To test of the analysis of joint kinematic properties, we did the strain stress analysis of dynamic PLS and the study of FEM with a dynamic PLS. It will be expect that the spinal cord injury patients are able to train effectively with a biped walking AGO-robot.

Determination of Ethanol in Blood Samples Using Partial Least Square Regression Applied to Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

  • Alcohol consumption triggers toxic effect to organs and tissues in the human body. The risks are essentially thought to be related to ethanol content in alcoholic beverages. The identification of ethanol in blood samples requires rapid, minimal sample handling, and non-destructive analysis, such as Raman Spectroscopy. This study aims to apply Raman Spectroscopy for identification of ethanol in blood samples. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized to obtain Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) spectra of blood samples. The SERS spectra were used for Partial Least Square (PLS) for determining ethanol quantitatively. To apply PLS method, $920{\sim}820cm^{-1}$ band interval was chosen and the spectral changes of the observed concentrations statistically associated with each other. The blood samples were examined according to this model and the quantity of ethanol was determined as that: first a calibration method was established. A strong relationship was observed between known concentration values and the values obtained by PLS method ($R^2=1$). Second instead of then, quantities of ethanol in 40 blood samples were predicted according to the calibration method. Quantitative analysis of the ethanol in the blood was done by analyzing the data obtained by Raman spectroscopy and the PLS method.

  • A two dimensional point light source array can replace both the viewing zone forming optics and the back light panel in the contact-type 3 dimensional imaging systems based on LC panels. This replacement can make the system structure of the 3 dimensional imaging systems no different from that of the conventional LCD and can reduce undesirable visual effects caused by the viewing zone forming optics. The problem with the point light source array is the visual quality deterioration of the system due to the non-ideal nature of the array.

  • The PLS(Partial Least Square) and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) were introduced to develop the soluble solids content prediction model of apples which is followed by making a subsequent selection of photosensor. For the optimal PLS model, number of factors needed for spectrum analysis were increased until the convergence of prediction residual error sum of squares. Analysis has shown that even part of the overall wavelength with no pretreatment may turn out better performing. The best PLS model was found in the 800 to 1,100nm wavelength region without pretreatment of second derivation, having $R^2$=0.9236, bias= -0.0198bx, SEP=0.2527bx for unknown samples. On the other hand, for the ANN model the second derivation led to higher performance. On partial range of 800 to 1,100nm wavelengh region, prediction model with second derivation for unknown samples reached $R^2$=0.9177, SEP=0.2903bx in contrast to $R^2$=0.7507, SEP =0.4622bx without pretreatment.

  • This paper presented a design and control of a biped walking RGO(robotic gait orthosis) and its simulation. The biped walking RGO was distinguished from the other one by which had a very light-weight and a new RGO system will be made of 12-servo motors and 12-controllers. The vibration evaluation of the dynamic PLS(posterior leaf splint) on the biped walking RGO was used to access by the 3-axis accelerometer with a low frequency vibration of less than 30 Hz. Helium Leak Test for the PLS Storage Ring Chamber (포항가속기 저장링챔버의 헬륨누설검사)

  • The storage ring vacuum system for the Pohang Light Source (PLS) has been designed to maintain the vacuum pressure of $10^{-10}Torr$ which requires UHV welding to have helium leak rate less than $1{\times}10^{-10}Torr{\cdot}{\ell}/sec$. In order to develop new technique (PLS) welding technique), a prototype vacuum chamber has been welded by using Tungsten Inert Gas welding method and all the welded joints have been tested with a non-destructive method, so called helium leak detection, to investigate the vacuum tightness of the weld joints. The test was performed with a detection limit of $1{\times}10^{-10}Torr{\cdot}{\ell}/sec$ for helium and no detectable leaks were found for all the welded joints. Thus the performance of welding technique is proven to meet the criteria of helium leak rate required in the PLS Storage Ring. Both the principle and the procedure for the helium leak detection are also discussed.

Determination of Germination Quality of Cucumber (Cucumis Sativus) Seed by LED-Induced Hyperspectral Reflectance Imaging

  • Purpose: We developed a viability evaluation method for cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seed using hyperspectral reflectance imaging. Methods: Reflectance spectra of cucumber seeds in the 400 to 1000 nm range were collected from hyperspectral reflectance images obtained using blue, green, and red LED illumination. A partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was developed to predict viable and non-viable seeds. Various ranges of spectra induced by four types of LEDs (Blue, Green, Red, and RGB) were investigated to develop the classification models. Results: PLS-DA models for spectra in the 600 to 700 nm range showed 98.5% discrimination accuracy for both viable and non-viable seeds. Using images based on the PLS-DA model, the discrimination accuracy for viable and non-viable seeds was 100% and 99%, respectively Conclusions: Hyperspectral reflectance images made using LED light can be used to select high quality cucumber seeds.
