  • This paper deals a watt-hour meter monitor system with applying a Power Line Communication (PLC) modem and a Data Concentrator Unit (DCU). PLC modem uses the power line, so there is no need to install dedicated wiring. This system makes it possible to monitor the amount of electricity of previous current month metering data, so it can easily apply a PC-management for the electric charges and maintenance with gathering the metering data.

  • The Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have become the major issues in Republic of Korea recently. While RS-232, Zigbee, and WiFi-related technologies are used in the ICT-based systems, we focus on the Power Line Communication (PLC) in this paper. By carrying out OPNET simulations, we've implemented the PLC Router Node Model, PLC Terminal Node Model, PLC Link Model, and PLC Palette Model and executed the simulations arranging 20 holds within the range of 400m (20m apart). As a result, we confirmed that the slient node problem had occurred at the point of 200m-2000m (as of 2016) distance preventing further communications. However, the control group, by contrast, was able to carry out the communications by installing a router. We expect that this paper will contribute to the development of a foundation technology which will saves costs by performing the simulation prior to building actual large-scale ICT Complex in the future work.

  • In the case of construction equipment, internal wiring has a very complicated structure such as an electrical wiring and hydraulic equipments. Because of these complex wiring, a lot of time is spent on maintenance and equipment manufacturing. In this paper, we design and implementation of the high-reliability PLC(Power Line Communication) -CAN(Controller Area Network) communication module to reduce electrical wiring of the construction equipment.

  • In this paper a low signal reduction communication system that does not use the communication line but power line is presented It will be very useful for an information-oriented society with tele-metering and home automation. The conventional system has a difficulty in transmitting information due to decreasing communication voltage. The proposed system employs a special type switching amplifier system which has a low inner resistance and uses high efficient ferrite core in coupling circuit. This new system is proposed to reduce the loss of conductor load and coupling circuit in a PLC system.

  • In this paper, we proposed a MAC protocol which can be used in power line communications(PLC). In the power line communication network, the data signal cannot travel long distance because of a serious attenuation. Consequently, we need to have a number of repeaters (amplifiers) in order to recover the signal power, which causes flooding problem in the network The proposed MAC protocol uses polling concept and solves the flooding problem in the power line communication network. The proposed protocol can be applied to power line communication networks for automatic power distribution control system. A mathematical analysis has been carried out to estimate the performance of the proposed protocol.

  • The implementation of a hybrid network utilizing Power Line Communication (PLC) and Wi-Fi technologies has been demonstrated to improve signal strength and coverage in areas with poor connectivity due to internet shadow areas. In this study we strategically positioned Wi-Fi relays and utilized the capabilities of PLC technology to significantly improve signal strength and coverage in areas with poor connectivity. We also analyzed the effects of metallic obstacles on Wi-Fi signal propagation and proposed a solution to strengthen the signal enough to pass through them. Our experiment demonstrated the feasibility and potential of using this hybrid network in industrial scenarios for real-time data transmission. Overall, the results suggest that the use of PLC and Wi-Fi hybrid networks can be a cost-effective and efficient solution for overcoming internet connectivity challenges and has the potential to provide high-speed internet access to areas with unreliable signals.

  • Powerline communications (PLC) technology has been discussed and analyzed as a highly potential candidate of wireline access network solutions. In this paper, performance of double binary turbo coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is analyzed and simulated in power line communications channel. In order to make power line channel environments, Bernoulli-Gaussian noise is considered. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the double binary turbo coding scheme offers considerable coding gain with reasonable encoding complexity. It is also shown that the system performance can be substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations.

  • This paper describes the high speed PLC-based remote control system that can monitor and control textile machineries bi-directionally through Internet. There are many textile machineries without network functions in the factory. We apply the PLC technology in order to give a network function to them in which the existing electric power line is used with network communication lines without separate wiring constructions. In order to realize this system, we have implemented a protocol for network communication of system, high-speed PLC modules, and Ethernet-to-UART modules. Finally we confirmed the effectiveness of system by applying actual test environments.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the household AC power line network is analyzed for the low bit rate powerline communication (PLC) in the frequency range from 10㎑ to 450㎑ The PLC channel transfer characteristics including its characteristic impedance are derived based on the network topology which is constructed with the household power lines loaded with the various types of electric apparatus. Both the distributed circuit analysis and the lumped circuit model based analysis are applied for the characterization of the PLC channel and the results are compared by the computer simulations. The analysis illustrates very well the adverse effects caused by the loading of electric apparatus and as well those casued by the reflection of wavers in the household AC Power line communication network.

  • In this paper, we simulate and analyze performance of iterative coding scheme, double binary turbo code, for high speed power line communication (PLC) systems. PLC system has hostile environment for high speed data transmission, so error correction method is necessary to compensate effects of PLC channel. We employ the PLC model proposed by M. Zimmerman and Middleton Class A interference model, and system performance is evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER). From the simulation results, we confirm double binary turbo code provides considerable coding gains to PLC system and BER performance is significantly improved as the number of iteration increase. It is also confirmed that BER performance increases as code rate is lager, while it decreases as the code rate is smaller.
