A method of robust stabilization of the interval plants with a PID controller (PID 제어기를 갖는 구간 플랜트의 강인안정화 기법)

  • In this paper, we consider methods of robust stabilization of the interval plant with a PID controller. Suppose that we know apriori a sign of the coefficients of the numerator of the PID controller. Under this condition, it sufficies to make eight polynomials stable for robust stabilization of the interval plant with a minimum phase PID controller. In addition, with a nonminimum phase PID controller, it suffices to make different eight polynomials stable. Especially, with the nonminimum phase PID controller it is shown that stabilization of eight plants is necessary and sufficient for robust stabilization of the interval plants.

  • The purpose of Introducing a combined cycle with gas turbine in power plants is to reduce losses of energy, by effectively using exhaust gases from the gas turbine to produce additional electricity or process. The efficiency of a combined power plant with the gas turbine increases, exceeding 50%, while the efficiency of traditional steam turbine plants is approximately 35% to 40%. Up to the present time, the PID controller has been used to operate this system. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain without any experience, since the gain of the PID controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error procedures. This paper focuses on the neural network tuning of the 2-DOF PID controller with a combined 2-DOF parameter (NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID controller), for optimal control of the Gun-san gas turbine generating plant in Seoul, Korea. In order to attain optimal control, transfer function and operating data from start-up, running, and stop procedures of the Gun-san gas turbine have been acquired and a designed controller has been applied to this system. The results of the NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID are compared with the PID controller and the conventional 2-DOF PID controller tuned by the Ziegler-Nichols method through experimentation. The experimental results of the NN-Tuning 2-DOF PID controller represent a more satisfactory response than those of the previously-mentioned two controllers.

  • This paper describes the development of a fuzzy logic control based on PID controller to improve the performances of the control system using conventional PID controller for the cascade process control systems. The structure of the proposed control system consists of two fuzzy-based PID controllers. One is used to eliminate the input disturbances of the inner loop and the other is used to regulate output response of the outer loop. The fuzzy PID design is derived from the linear-time continuous function of the conventional PID controller. The performance of the proposed controller is verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation. Results of simulation studies demonstrates the outstanding of the control system using fuzzy-based PID controller in terms of reduced overshoot and fast response compared with the conventional PID controller.

  • This paper proposes an optimum design method using Teaching-Learning-based optimization for the fuzzy PID controller of Magnetic levitation rail-guided vehicle. Since an attraction-type levitation system is intrinsically unstable, it is difficult to completely satisfy the desired performance through the conventional control methods. In the paper, a fuzzy PID controller with fixed parameters is applied and then the optimum parameters of fuzzy PID controller are selected by Teaching-Learning optimization. For the fitness function of Teaching-Learning optimization, the performance index of PID controller is used. To verify the performances of the proposed method, we use a Maglev model and compare the proposed method with the performance of PID controller. The simulation results show that the proposed method is more effective than conventional PID controller.

High Precision Pressure Control of a Pneumatic Chamber using a Hybrid Fuzzy PID Controller

  • A hybrid fuzzy PID controller for a pneumatic chamber is proposed in this paper. First, a mathematical model of a pneumatic pressure servocontrol system was developed where separate implementations of a PID controller and a fuzzy controller were made. The experimental results using a step input signal revealed that the PID controller accurately controlled the steady-state pressure but did not robustly handle parameter variations in the system while the fuzzy controller provided a fast rise time and low overshoot of the pressure in the system. In order to attain the advantages of both the fuzzy and PID controllers, a hybrid control scheme was developed. The experimental results show that the hybrid fuzzy PID controller proposed in this study does indeed possess the advantages of both PID and fuzzy controllers. Hence, it can be concluded that the hybrid fuzzy PID controller is suited for high-precision control of pressure in a pneumatic chamber.

  • This paper is a study on robust PID controller tuning technique using the frequency region model matching method.To design the robust PID controller satisfying disturbance attenuation and robust tracking property for a reference input first an {{{{ETA _$\infty$}}}} controller satisfying given performances is designed using an H$_{\infty}$ control method, And then the parameters(proportional gain integral gain and derivation gain) of the robust PID controller with the performances of the desinged H$_{\infty}$ controller are determined using the model matching method at frequency domain. in this paper this PID controller tuning technique is applied to PID speed controller design for BLDC motors. Consequently simulation results show that the proposed PID speed controller satisfies load torque disturbance attenuation and robust tracking property and this study has usefulness and applicability for the speed control system; design of BLDC motors.

  • In SIL-based NFR servo systems, the residual error and the overshoot that are occurred in the process of the modes-witching servo which consists of approach, gap-control modes, and safety mode are reduced by using PID controller. However, the design method of conventional PID controller is not sufficient for the stable air gap control system. Therefore, the optimal PID controller using LQR manner is more useful to find the designed parameters of PID controller. In this paper, we show that the performance of the optimal PID controller is better than that of the lead-lag controller.

  • A magnetic levitation system with hybrid magnets, which is composed of permanent magnets and electromagnets, consumes less power than the conventional attraction type system.   • A conventional PID controller has poor performance when it applied to systems with unknown deadzones. To solve this problem, this paper proposes PID controller using two layered-fuzzy logic. The structure of controller is reconstructed with fuzzy compensator and fuzzy tuner on the conventional PID controller. Our proposed control scheme shows superior transient and steady-state performance compared to conventional PID controller. The scheme is robust to variations in deadzone nonlinearities as well as the steady-state gain of the plant. The performance of the developed controller is verified through simulation.

  • Brushless DC motors applied in many control systems because of the good respose characteristic and the easy control characteristic. The speed control of the BLDC motors is important in the systems. This paper has designed PSO-PID speed controller for the speed control of BLDC motors. The PSO algorithm optimized the parameters of the PID controller in the PSO-PID speed controller. The several methods obtained the optimal inertia weight of the PSO algorithm by comparison. The optimal inertia weight of the PSO algorithm optimized the PSO-PID speed controller for BLDC motors. This paper confirmed the performance of proposed PSO-PID speed controller through simulation results.
