  • In this paper, the I-PD control algorithm using the coefficient diagram method(CDM) controller design of the Linear DC Motor(LDM) is presented. Recently LDM has been used to obtain the fine results of the dynamic characteristic for straightly moving condition. The I-PD control algorithm has a robust response to force disturbance. The effectiveness of I-PD is shown by simulations and comparison with PID.

  • We propose a new method for detecting Backemf of a motor and estimating parameters of a motor using Recursive Least Square Estimator. The motor speed is obtained from the estimated parameters. We experiment the PID speed controller with the estimated speed.

  • Level control in the steam generator of a nuclear power plant is important process. But, the low power operation of nuclear power plant causes nonlinear characteristics and non minimum phase characteristics (swell and shrink), change of delay. So, we can't lead good results with conventional PID controller. Particularly, the design of controller with constraints is necessary. This paper introduces MPC(Model Predictive Control) with constraints and designs a good performance MPC controller in spite of the input constraints and nonlinear characteristics, non-minimum phase characteristics

  • In this paper, we analyze the effects of scaling factors on the performance of a fuzzy controller and propose the tuning method for them. The quantitative relation between input and output variables of a fuzzy controller is obtained by using a quasi-linear fuzzy model. An approximate transfer function of a fuzzy controller is derived from the comparison a fuzzy controller with the conventional PID controller. We analyze the effects of scaling factor using this approximate transfer function and propose a fuzzy tuning method based on that of Maeda et al[4].

  • A position Control algorithm of the flexible manipulator is studied. The proposed algorithm is based on a Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC) method using the human's experiences. FLC does not need a dynamic modeling of a flexible manipulator. A Fuzzy logic controller is designed that the end-point of the flexible manipulator tracks the desired trajectory. The control input to the process is determined by the error and variation of error. Simulation result shows a robustness of FLC compared with the PID control algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a new identification method that utilizes fuzzy inference in parameter identification. The prosed system has an additional control loop where a real plant has replaced by a plant model. Fuzzy rules describe the relationship between comparison results of the features and magnitude of modification in the model parameter values. In this paper, the tuning method which determines parameters of PID controller automatically is described through applying this algorithm to DC servo motor. And we intend to investigate effectiveness of the method by experiments. This method is effective in auto-tuning because the response of the closed loop has verified. The simulated and the experimental results of the dc servo motor are shown to confirm the viability of this method.

  • In this paper, active shape control of composite structure actuated by shape memory alloy (SMA) wires is presented. Hybrid composite structure was established by attaching SMA actuators on the surfaces of graphite/epoxy composite beam using bolt-joint connectors. SMA actuators were activated by phase transformation, which induced by temperature rising over austenite finish temperatures. In this paper, electrical resistive heating was applied to the hybrid composite structures to activate the SMA actuators. For faster and more accurate shape or deflection control of the hybrid composite structure, PID feedback controller was designed from numerical simulations and experimentally applied to the SMA actuators.

  • The states of control loops in existing actual systems are changed according to time varying conditions of controllest process and other system components. Adjusting control parameters properly at site which is performed generally by Ziegler & Nichols mthod is important for safe and efficient operation, but the method may require much time to adjust and not easy to inexperienced engineers. This study is aimed to propose more handy method to adjust control parameters by plotting operating conditions on the space of adjusting parameters. One loop of model control system without perturbation condition has been adopted and its stability limit was plotted on the coordinates of Gain and Integral time which was acquired after analyzing Nyquist diagrams and time domain responses. The result showed that the sets of adjusting parameters according to critical stability and proper stability could be acquired reasonably through both responses and the curves on parameter space revealed available patterns for the purpose of easy maintenance of control characteristics.

  • It is almost impossible to have a straight web for processing in the continuous process systems. The cambered web usually causes the strip walking and damage during process. It is necessary to identify the lateral dynamics of the cambered web for the precise control of lateral behavior. In this paper, a dynamic model of the lateral behavior for a cambered web is developed by introducing the concept of steering angle equivalent to moment caused by the camber. This model can be extended to include terms associated with moment, induced by roller's tilting, web slippage, and shear force, etc. Using this model, a new feed-forward controller is proposed to enable the on-line camber estimation, which is difficult to be measured directly, and the prediction of lateral deflection caused by camber. Computer simulation study shows that the proposed controller successfully eliminates the effect of camber and has better control performance than that of the existing PID controller.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the design of adaptive control system using DSPs(TMS320C30) for robotic manipulators to achieve trajectory tracking by the joint angles Digital signal processors are used in implementing real time adaptive control algorithms to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In the proposed control scheme adaptation laws are derived from the improved Lyapunov second stability analysis method based on the adaptive model reference control theory. The adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feedforward controller. feedback controller. and PID type time-varying auxiliary control elements. The proposed adaptive control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require a an accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.
