  • In Part I, we disccussed of joint between PHC pile and steel column in foundation of large space structures, one prototype of a joint of PHC pile to steel pipe column was suggested on the basis of analytical studies. In this paper, I explain the Joint of PHC pile to steel tube column and more detail of analysis.

  • To overcome disadvantages of usual spread foundation in large space structure, some prototypes of a joint of the PHC pile to steel pipe column that directly connects a column to a PHC pile are analytically studied. With the consideration of strength requirement and stress concentration of joint of the PHC pile to column, we suggest the most appropriate one.

  • With the recent concentration of urban populations, the constructions of large structures are increasing, along with the development of foundations for large structures. PHC Piles have been used in many structures ever since Japanese introduced the technology at the end of the 20th century. Recently, many studies on the use of the PHC Pile have been carried out as earth retaining using the merits of PHC piles. In this study, static axial compression tests were conducted on the PHC-W piles constructed as column-type in building underground additional wall using the PHC-W earth retaining wall. The end bearing capacity of pile was calculated using the axial load transfer measurement that was obtained from the static axial compression test result. Since end bearing capacity of the PHC-W pile embedded in weathered rock showed a different behaviour from the conventional PHC pile, the calculation method of end bearing capacity for column-type PHC-W piles would be proposed. The unit ultimate end bearing equation proposed for single and group PHC-W pile embedded in weathered rock is $q_b=13.3N_b$ and $q_b=6.8N_b$.

  • To overcome the weakness of spread foundation in large space structure, the research of precast pile for replace spread foundation have been conducted. The new type of joint between PHC pile and steel column is named HAT Joint(Hollow hAlf-sphere cast-sTeel Joint). It connected PHC Pile by bolt that verification of bolt connection should be accomplished. In this paper, pull-out test and flexural performance for HAT Joint to verifying the bolt connection is explained. As a result, the pull-out and flexural capacities of bolt were checked to use in real structure. Furthermore, the equation of pull-out strength was proposed.

  • This paper presents a foundation pile to steel column connection that can resist large magnitude of moment and that can be easy installed. The developed joint has spherical shape and it is given the name HAT joint to mean Hallow half-sphere steel joint. Four types of HAT joints are developed. Namely, H-type, T-type, P-type and K-type. In this paper I will talk about the performance assessment of T-type(Tube Column) and P-type(Pile Column) of HAT joints with finite element analysis and experiment on a full scale model is presented.

  • The design and buckling behavior of earth retaining system supported by high strength steel pipe and PHC pile under compression is presented in this study. Buckling analysis of various strut system was investigated according to the strut total length(30m, 60m, 90m), three types of built-up columns and connection condition. Buckling loads calculated by F.E analysis was compared with the theoretical solution corresponding to diagonal buckling mode, local and global buckling mode of main strut. The design of the built-up column struts are performed based on design guide for high strength steel pipes and P-M diagram for built-up column with two PHC pile section.

  • In this study, the seismic details of a concrete-encased, U-shaped steel beam-to-RC column connection were developed. Three specimens of the beam-to-column connection were tested under cyclic loading to evaluate the seismic performance of the connection. The test parameters were the beam depth and the column section shape. The depths of the composite beams were 610 and 710 mm, including the slab depth. For the RC columns, a square section and a circular section were used. Special details using diagonal re-bars and exterior diaphragm plates were used to strengthen the connections with the rectangular and circular columns, respectively. The test results showed that the specimens exhibited good strength, deformation, and energy dissipation capacities. The deformation capacity exceeded 4% interstory drift angle, which is the requirement for the Special Moment Frame.

  • Compressive axial behavior of the variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation is investigated from the field load test results at ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ construction site in Incheon city. Variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation is a type of partial-displacement pile formed by mixing bidding material with in situ soils to obtain a rigid and strong variable cross-section column in a relatively soft ground. The foundations are usually constructed as a group; however in this study, only single foundation was installed and tested under compressive axial load on foundation head. For the comparison of the variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation axial behavior, behavior of typical Pretensioned spun high strength concrete (PHC) pile constructed on a relatively soft ground near the surface was analyzed. It was concluded that variable cross-section soft ground reinforced foundation efficiently resists against axial load with sufficient stiffness and strength within a considerable range of axial load magnitude.

A Study on the Carbamate Pesticide Residues in Domestic and Imported Crops in Chonnam Province (전라남도에서 유통중인 국내산 및 수입산 곡류 중의 카바메이트제 농약 잔류 실태 연구)

  • 10 carbamate pesticides were surveyed in domestic and imported green peas, beans, red beans from March 1999 through December 1999. Samples were collected from Gwangju, Mokpo, Suncheon and Yosoo grain markets. This study was performed by post-column ο-phthalaldehyde and 2-mercaptoethanol prior to HPCL fluorophore detection. Pesticides were found in 14 of 80 samples(17.5%). The kinds of pesticide detected in green peas were methomyl, MTMC, carbaryl, those in sesames were oxamyl, carbofuran, carbaryl, 1-naphthol, MIPC, those in beans were oxamyl, MTMC, carbaryl and those in red beans were MTMC, carbaryl. The range of residues detected in green peas, sesames, beans and red beans were 0.002∼0.025ppm, 0.001∼0.469ppm, 0.005∼0.356ppm and 0.017∼0.125ppm, respectively. The most frequently detected pesticides were MTMC(6 times) and carbaryl(5 times), while aldicarb, PHC and BPMC were no detected in all samples. Detection frequencies of carbamate pesticides in imported crops were higher than those in domestic ones except red beans. Only one result of oxamyl residues determined in imported bean was higher than the proposed maximum residue limits of Codex, which was 0.356ppm.
