A single specimen of Epinephelus lanceolatus, belonging to Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae, was newly collected from Jeju Island, South Korea, in December 2009. Epinephelus lanceolatus is characterized by anterior lateral-line scales with branched tubules, cycloid scales, irregular white spots, and fins with numerous small black spots. We propose a Korean name, "Dae-wang-ba-ri' for this species.

We report the first occurrence of a tailless Girella leonina, collected from Jeju Island, Korea, in July 2016. This specimen has 10 scales below the median spinous portion of the dorsal fin, a black posterior margin of the operculum, and no pale vertical band on the body, and is therefore similar to the normal species, except that it has no caudal peduncle or caudal fin. The posterior parts of the dorsal and anal fins are gathered vertically at the posterior end of the body. A radiograph indicates that this abnormal specimen is lacking the vertebrae after vertebra 20.

Three specimens of Lutjanus ophuysenii (217.8-226.7 mm in standard length) were collected by a gill net at Korea between August 2015 and July 2016. This species has not previously been recorded from Korea. L. ophuysenii is very similar to Lutjanus vitta. But several morphological characteristics distinguish the two species, including the number of lateral line scales (46-49 scales in L. ophuysenii; 49-52 scales in L. vitta), a black spot in the middle part of the longitudinal stripe (present in L. ophuysenii; absent in L. vitta), and the absence of a scale on posterior end of the preopercle in L. ophuysenii (present in L. vitta). The Korean name proposed for L. ophuysenii is "Jeom-jul-tung-dom."

A single specimen of Festucalex erythraeus, belonging to the family Syngnathidae, was first collected from Seogwipo, Korea, on August 12, 2019. This species is characterized by a low median dorsal snout ridge, and a lateral trunk ridge extending to the last trunk ring. Festucalex erythraeus is similar to the congeneric species, F. rufus: however, it is distinguished by the number of tail rings (32-37 in F. erythraeus vs. 31 in F. rufus). Here, we suggest the new Korean names "Min-sil-go-gi-sog" for the genus Festucalex and "Deung-huin-jeom-sil-go-gi" for the species F. erythraeus.

A single specimen of Carangoides hedlandensis was collected from a set net installed at 25 m depth near Sangju Beach, Namhae, Gyeoksangnamdo, Korea. The morphology of the species was similar to that of C. armatus. Carangoides hedlandensis and C. armatus can be clearly distinguished by the number of gillrakers on the first arch: C. hedlandensis has 20-28 gillrakers whereas C. armatus has 30-39. Unlike other species, interorbital region of the head in C. hedlandensis is bumped. We suggest that C. hedlandensis should be added to lists of Korean fish fauna, and propose a Korean name, "Hokjeon-gaeng-i" for this species.

A single specimen of a juvenile Stethojulis trilineata was first collected from the coastal waters of Ulsan, Korea, in October 2012. This species is characterized by IX dorsal fin spines, 26 lateral line scales, 25 vertebrae, dark spots between the 10th and 11th dorsal fin rays, and a caudal peduncle region. The new Korean name proposed is "Se-jul-mu-ji-gae-nol-rae-gi" for S. trilineata.

Mudskipper로 알려진 망둑어과 어류인 말뚝망둑어 Periophthalmus modestus는 구나 기수역의 갯벌바닥에 서식하면서 간조시에는 물 밖으로 나와 육상의 갯벌을 뛰어다니거나 또는 추운 계절에는 갯벌에 굴을 파서 생활하는 amphibious habit를 갖고 있다. 말뚝망둑어와 비슷한 서식환경을 가지는 드렁허리 Monoterus albus와 Amphinous는 용존산소를 이용한 수중호흡 이외에 피부를 이용한 공기호흡(cutaneous respiration)을 병행하는 dual respiration system을 갖는 것으로 알려져 있으며 (Liem, 1967; Mittal and Munshi, 1971) 또한 쉽게 건조가 되는 연못, 농수로 또는 진흙바탕에 서식하는 Misgurnus fossilis(Jakuboski, 1958), M. anguillicauda (Park and Kim, 1999)에서도 피부를 이용한 공기호흡이 알려져 있다. 그러나 이러한 어류들의 피부구조는 말뚝망둑어 피부와 많은 차이점을 보여 주고 있는 본 조사는 말뚝망둑어의 피부의 특징을 조사하고 및 이들의 호흡체계에 대한 기초자료를 얻고자 한다. One specimen of Chirolophis saitone, belonging to the family Stichaeidae, was collected by a bottom trawl in the southern area of the Yellow Sea. The present specimen was characterized by 52 dorsal fin spines, 38 anal fin spines, a caudal fin with four vertical dark bands and an orbital region with three pairs of branched cirri. We propose a new Korean name, "Jak-eun-goe-do-ra-chi', for C. saitone.

우리나라의 동해 연안에서 채집된 빨판상어과 어류 1개체를 동정한 결과 지금까지 우리나라에서는 보고되지 않은 Phtheirichthys lineatus (Menzies)로 확인되었다. 본종은 외형상 Echeneis naucrates와 유사하지만 빨판의 판상체가 10개이고, 새파수가 1+13개이며, 척추골수가 40개인 점에서 전자와 쉽게 구별되었다. 본 종의 신한국명은 "열줄빨판이"라고 명명하였다.

우리나라 강릉 연안에서 채집된 벼슬베도라치속 어류 1개체(체장 52.2 mm SL)의 표본을 근거로 Alectrias alectrolophus를 한국미기록종으로 기재하였다. 본 종은 등지느러미 기조수 LXIII, 뒷지느러미 기조수 I, 44, 척추골수 68이고, 가늘고 긴 체형을 가진다는 점에서 동속의 다른 종과 쉽게 구별된다. 본 종의 신한국명으로 "가는벼슬베도라치"를 제안한다.
