Ab-initio Study of Hydrogen Permeation though Palladium Membrane (팔라듐 얇은 막의 수소 투과에 대한 제일 원리 계산)

  • Hydrogen permeation through dense palladium-based membranes has attracted the attention of many scientists largely due to their unmatched potential as hydrogen-selective membranes for membrane reactor applications. Although it is well known that the permeation mechanism of hydrogen through Pd involves various processes such as dissociative adsorption, transitions to and from the bulk Pd, diffusion within Pd, and recombinative desorption, it is still unclear which process mainly limits hydrogen permeation at a given temperature and hydrogen partial pressure. In this study, we report an all-electron density-functional theory study of hydrogen permeation through Pd membrane (using VASP code). Especially, we focus on the variation of the energy barrier of the penetration process from the surface to the bulk with hydrogen coverage, which means the large reduction of the fracture stress in the brittle crack propagation considering Griffith's criterion. It is also found that the penetration energy barrier from the surface to the bulk largely decreases so that it almost vanishes at the coverage 1.25, which means that the penetration process cannot be the rate determining process.

Fabrication of Hybrid Nanocomposites of PAA-grafted Graphene and Pd Nanoparticles having POSS (Pd-POSS) (그래핀과 실세스키옥세인을 포함한 팔라듐 나노입자와의 나노복합체 제조)

  • The palladium nanoparticles were self-assembled to make Pd-POSS using POSS-$NH_3{^+}$ (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) as a crosslinker. Graphene oxide (GO) was produced by the reaction of graphite under a strong acid and oxidizer and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was covalently grafted on the surface of graphene to make PAA-grafted graphene through the radical polymerization of acrylic acid and GO along with a reduction process under $NaBH_4$. The nanocomposites of Pd-POSS and PAA-grafted graphene were fabricated via ionic interactions between positively charged Pd-POSS and negatively charged PAA-grafted graphene. Pd-POSS nanoparticles were attached to the surface of PAA-grafted graphene through ionic interactions. The thermal stability of Pd-POSS/PAA-grafted graphene was higher than that of PAA and PAA-grafted graphene. The composition, structure, surface morphology, and thermal stability of the Pd-POSS/PAA-grafted graphene were studied by FE-SEM, AFM, TEM, FTIR, and TGA.

  • Some nickel(Ⅱ) and palladium(Ⅱ) complexes of the ambidentate ligands derived from condensation of the isonitrosoacetylacetone and various diamines, $Ni(IAA)_2-en$, $Ni(IAA)_2-pn$, $Ni(IAA)_2-tn$, $Pd(IAA)_2-en$, PdCl(IAA)-pn, and $Pd(IAA)_2$-tn, where (IAA)$_2$-en, $(IAA)_2$-tn, and (IAA)-pn represent N,N'-enthylenbis(isonitrosoacetylacetone imine), N,N'-propylenebis(isonitrosoacetylacetone imine), N,N'-trimethylenebis(isonitrosoacetylacetone imine) and N-(2-aminopropyl)isonitrosoacetylacetone imine, respectively, have been prepared. The nickel(Ⅱ) and palladium(Ⅱ) complexes were characterized on the bases of the elemental analysis, IR, NMR, and electronic spectra. It is suggested that a isonitroso group of (IAA)$_2$-en or (IAA)$_2$-tn coordinates to the metal ion through the nitrogen atom to form five-membered ring, while the other isonitroso group of (IAA)$_2$-en or (IAA)$_2$-tn coordinates to the metal ion through the oxygen atom to form six membered ring in square-planar complexes of Ni(IAA)$_2$-tn and Pd(IAA)$_2$-en. And two isonitroso groups of (IAA)$_2$-en, (IAA)$_2$-pn, or (IAA)$_2$-tn coordinate to the metal ion through the nitrogen atom to form five-membered rings in square-planar complexes of Ni(IAA)$_2$-en, Ni(IAA)$_2$-pn, and Pd(IAA)$_2$-tn. On the other hand, square-planar PdCl(IAA)-pn is formed by the reaction of propylenediamine with a isonitrosoacetylacetone in the presence of palladium(Ⅱ)ion.

Development Effectiveness of the Paris Declaration: An Empirical Evaluation (파리선언의 개발효과성: 실증적 평가)

  • This study aims to assess the development effectiveness of the Paris Declaration (2005). Using data collected by the OECD/DAC from 78 developing countries for the period 2005~2010, this study evaluates the role played by the Paris Declaration principles alone and in interaction with aid in promoting per-capita GDP growth. The analysis shows that the overall net impact of aid on promoting economic growth has been negative. However, aid effectiveness has been enhanced by the sound policies or institutions and some Paris Declaration (PD) principles. Of the five principles of the PD, only the alignment and, to some extent, mutual accountability principles of the PD did show a significant and positive role in making aid more effective for economic growth of aid recipient countries. Therefore, OECD's statement that the PD enhances aid effectiveness is supported only partially. These findings have significant implications for the importance accorded to sound policies and institutions in the growth literature, and for future international development cooperation agenda.

Study of the Photodegradation Properties of Toluene using Photocatalysts Modified by Metal Matter (금속물질로 개질된 광촉매를 이용한 톨루엔 광분해특성 연구)

  • In photocatalysis, the addition of metal matter to $TiO_2$ can alter the surface properties. As such, the metal can increase the rate of the photodegradation reaction. In this study, a range of modified $TiO_2$ photocatalysts were prepared and tested to improve the activity of photodegradation at a batch-typed photoreactor. To obtain a good sol solution of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst, several types of dispersion agents and stabilizers were investigated. The photocatalyst solutions were modified with isoproply alcohol as the dispersion agent and sodium silicate as the stabilizer. The effects of various metallic elements on enhancing the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ on the degradation of toluene were examined. Palladium-added $TiO_2$ was found to be the best, whereas copper or tungsten-added also showed good results. In the case of palladium addition, the increase in removal efficiency was 25%. On the other hand, Fe-added $TiO_2$ showed a notable decrease in photocatalytic degradation. Additional doping of copper or tungsten on the $Pd/TiO_2$ had no positive effect on the photodegradation activity.

Synthesis of Stigmastanol as a Serum Cholesterol-lowering substance Using Pd Catalyst (Pd 촉매를 이용한 혈청 콜레스테롤 저하제 Stigmastanol의 합성)

  • Stigmastanol, a functional agent of cholesterol-lowering in humans, was synthesized from stigmasterol. To investigate the usability as a raw material, the contents of sterol in vegetable oils and extract of soybean chaff were analyzed. The total sterol contents showed high values of 213.7 and 209.8 mg/100g in corn and soybean oils respectively. The extract of soybean chaff has played a good role as a raw material with high sterol contents. The kinetics of hydrogenation of stigmasterol was studied using a 5% Pd/AC catalyst in the temperature range of 30~$60^{\circ}$C. Increasing temperature showed a prominent decrease in conversion. The optimum temperature was $40^{\circ}$C for high yield of stigmastanol. The effects of $H_2$ pressure, agitation speed, catalyst loading, and stigmasterol concentration on reaction rate profile were also examined. From the power law model analysis using the initial rates of reaction, the reaction order was calculated as 0.705 for stigmasterol concentration and 0.147 for hydrogen pressure.

  • 촉매 구조에 따른 반도체식 가스센서의 가스 감지 특성이 고찰되었다. 촉매로는 Pd를 사용하였고, 0.5 ~ 10wt% 의 다양한 농도로 약 15nm 크기의 $SnO_2$ 분말에 도핑, 가스센서를 제작하였다. 또한 열처리 온도를 $500{\sim}600^{\circ}C$로 다르게 하여 각 촉매 구조에 따른 특성의 변화를 관찰하였다. 그 결과 가스 감지 특성은 열처리 온도가 높을수록 감지 특성이 향상되었고, Pd 농도가 5wt% 에서 감도가 0.65로 좋은 감지 특성을 나타내었다. 5wt% Pd가 도핑된 가스센서는 2시간 동안 $400^{\circ}C$에서 aging 후에도 감도 값이 안정된 우수한 특성을 나타내었다.

  • 무전해 도금용 팔라듐 촉매액 중의 팔라듐 이온과 주석이온의 농도비($Sn^{2+}/Pd^{2+}$), 염산의 농도 및 첨가제의 농도 등은 촉매액의 안정성 및 흡착력에 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있다. 무전해 도금용 콜로이드 타입 팔라듐 촉매액에 요구되어지는 특성으로는 1) 액 안정성이 양호하여 장시간 연속 사용에 있어서 나노입자의 응집 및 침전이 없을 것 2) 피도금체 표면에 흡착력이 양호할 것 3) 촉매활성이 충분하여 다음 공정인 무전해 도금피막의 초기석출성이 양호할 것 등이다. 본 연구에서는, 콜로이드 타입 팔라듐 촉매액 중의 염산 농도 및 금속이온의 농도비($Sn^{2+}/Pd^{2+}$), 첨가제를 변화시켜 촉매액의 안정성 및 촉매활성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 그 결과를 시판의 팔라듐 촉매액과 비교하여 보고한다.
