  • Occurrence of crack in the Half-loc of rubble mound breakwater under T.T.P (Tetrapod) can cause serious problems in structural safety. There, probing of such cracks in marine structures is an important process in evaluating the overall integrity of structures. Ultrasonic, SASW(Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves)and Impect-Echo methods were used for the inspection of pilot concrete and SFC (Steel Fiber Concrete) block in this study. The advantage and limitations of these methods for non-destructive inspection in concrete blocks are investigated. As a result, it has been verified that these methods proved to present effective solution for detecting the crack of the pilot concrete block.

  • We experienced an unusual case of accelerated junctional rhythm with severe hypotension after infiltration of lidocaine containing epinephrine during dental surgery under general anesthesia. The patient's electrocardiogram exhibited retrograde P-waves following the QRS complex, which could be misinterpreted as ST-segment depression. As a temporary measure, administration of ephedrine restored the patient's blood pressure to normal levels. The importance of this case lies in its demonstration of an unexpected and serious side effect of commonly used epinephrine infiltration. This case also highlights the need for accurate interpretation of the electrocardiogram and comprehensive understanding of best practices for patient management.

  • Ultrasonic wave technologies have been widely used in ultrasonic washing machines, ultrasonic surgery, ultrasonic welding machines, ultrasonic sensors, and medical instruments. Ultrasonic surgery can be realized through the cavitation effect of ultrasonic waves. In this study, piezoelectric ceramics were manufactured to achieve the optimum design of a piezoelectric vibrator in a handheld generator for ultrasonic surgery. The best specimen showed the excellent piezoelectric properties of kp=0.624, Qm=1,531, and $d_{33}=356pC/N$. Numerical modeling based on the finite element method was performed to find the resonance frequency, the anti-resonance frequency, and the displacement properties of the handheld ultrasonic generator. Maximum displacement was observed in the six-step piezoelectric vibrator at $6.36{\mu}m$.

  • Recently, there has been increased incessantly an interest in research area on micro-fluidic pump for electronic and biological applications. The proposed pump takes an unobtrusive operation into the simple displacing mechanism using peristaltic traveling waves without the physical moving valves. And, this piezopump makes up a panel type design. The ATILA simulation was performed to estimate the operating frequency of the vibrating wave mode, to optimize the design conditions of piezopump such as structure, elastic body material, piezoelectric ceramics, and to analyze the distribution of vibration displacement. The best measured value of the pumping rate is about $118{\mu}l$/min under the following parameters : 4-wave mode, 50kHz operating frequency, $200V_p$.

  • The histories and distributions of dynamic stresses in an orthotropic hollow cylinder under sinusoidal impact load are obtained by making use of eigenfunction expansion method in this paper. Dynamic equations for axially symmetric orthotropic problem are founded and results are carried out for a practical example in which an orthotropic hollow cylinder is in initially at rest and subjected to a dynamic interior pressure $p(t)=-{\sigma}_0(sin{\alpha}t+1)$. The features of the solution appear the propagation of the cylindrical waves. The other hand, a dynamic finite element solution for the same problem is also got by making use of structural software (ABAQUS) program. Comparing theoretical solution with finite element solution, it can be found that two kinds of results obtained by two different solving methods are suitably approached. Thus, it is further concluded that the method and computing process of the theoretical solution are effective and accurate.

  • PD pulses have about one nanosecond rise time in the $SF_6$ gas insulation. These pulses propagate in the apparatus to PD sensors in the form of the voltage oscillation, high frequency current and the electromagnetic radiation. In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of two types of PD sensors, by putting high frequency signals in the form of sine waves and pulse into the test apparatus in air. Also, we measured PD quantity from the needle electrode and the sensitivity of the sensors. We found that PD of 70pC could be detected with this method and the study in $SF_6$ gas should be carried out for application to $SF_6$ GIS.

  • It is well known that discrepancies between measured and predicted ship motions are significant in the range of low frequencies. In this paper, the vertical ship motions in regular longitudinal waves in a shallow water are briefly discussed. The investigation is focussed on the role of wave exciting forces and moments to the motion responses in these low frequencies. It is confirmed that diffraction forces are in general small in a shallow water as one may expect. Furthermore the wave exciting forces and moments on a displacement-type ship will be larger practicularly in low frequencies, when the contribution of the diffraction effect is neglected. As a result of this fact theoretically predicted responses for the pitch motion becomes closer to the experimental one. The discrepancies for the heave motion, however, are still apparent.

  • The effects of national gymnastics and brain gymnastics on brain activity were analyzed in 20 healthy university students. The students were assigned to either a national gymnastics group or a brain gymnastics group. Their frontal lobe activity was recorded before and after the exercise, and the resting, attention, and concentration indexes of brain waves were measured. The resting index significantly decreased and concentration index significantly increased(p<.05) after the exercise in both the national and brain gymnastics groups. However, the attention index significantly increased only after brain gymnastics, and, on the contrary, decreased after national gymnastics. These findings suggest that brain gymnastics is effective for improving attention.

  • L-Histidine tetrafluoroborate single crystals have been grown from the aqueous solution. The profitable pH value to grow large crystals, the relative flow rate to get clear crystals, crystals habit and the orientation of the obtained crystal have been clarified. We have also demonstrated that the LHBF crystal has very high damage threshold which is potentially good for generation of the phase conjugated waves.

  • Bleeding away a part of the boundary layer next to the wall is an effective method for controlling boundary-layer distortions from incident shock waves or curvature in geometry. When the boundary-layer flow is supersonic, the physics of bleeding with and without an incident shock wave is more complicated than just the removal of lower momentum fluid next to the wall. This paper reviews CFD studies of shock-wave/boundary-layer interactions on a flat plate with bleed into a plenum through a single hole, three holes in tandem, and four rows of staggered holes in which the simulation resolves not just the flow above the plate, but also the flow through each bleed hole and the plenum. The focus is on understanding the nature of the bleed process.
