  • The capacity of the drilling process in Multi-Layer PCB fabrication can be affected by various process parameters determining material flows in the unit operations. The ratio of mass-lamination to pin lamination and the number of stacks as the most critical paramaters, among them, were chosen on the basis of exhaustive field evaluation to study their effects on the capacity of the process. The best alternative condition for maximum capacity of the process was selected by simulation of process.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes in carcass characteristics during slaughter process and to evaluate the physical properties of ostrich muscles. After blooding, pH of carcass was declined rapidly and showed 5.89 of final pH, whilst temperature was slightly decreased during slaughter process. Carcass of ostrich yielded 49.3%. For the comparison between muscles, m. gastrocneminus and m. iliofemoralis externus showed a significantly high pH (P<0.05). The muscle of which pH tended to be high in water holding capacity (WHC), however, m. gastrocneminus showed a significantly low WHC (P<0.05) due to low moisture content. M. obturatorius medialis showed the significantly lower shear force, whilst m. gastrocneminus was higher than other muscles (P<0.05). Therefore the results indicated that the production of high quality carcass was to reduce the time during slaughter process, and that high WHC and tenderness of ostrich meat had a potential application as a substitutional species to other animals.

  • Fabrication of InP-based photonic devices by dry etch Process is important for clear formation of waveguide mesa structure. We have developed more efficient etch process of the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) with low damages and less polymeric deposits for the InP-based photonic devices than the reactive ion etching (RIE) technique. We report the tendency of etch rate variation by the process parameters of the RF power, pressure, gas flow rate, and the gas mixing ratio. The surface roughness of InP-based waveguide structure was more improved by the light wet etching in the mixed solution of H$_2$SO$_4$:H$_2$O (1:1)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the removal rate of organic and inorganic matters from landfill leachate using pre-treatment process as coagulation and limonite adsorption, and membrane process as RO (reverse osmosis) and NF(nanofiltration). By adding limonite adsorption as pre-treatment process, about 40% of organic matters in leachate was removed through pre-treatment process and 74.7% of boron was removed after RO process without pH adjustment. The rejection rate of boron in RO process mainly depends on the pH and increased at pH value of 10. RO process was performed as two stage system adjusting pH condtion to 7 and 10 in second RO stage for boron removal. Most (>90%) of TOC, Cl- and inorganic matters as Ca was rejected in first RO stage, the residue was rejected in second RO and the rejection rate was above 97%. Considering economic efficiency of operation cost, NF substituted for the first RO and total removal rate of TOC was above 90%. Through RO system toxicity to Daphnia in leachate was removed completely.

  • Advanced Phase Isolation Ditch (APID) process was studied to develop economic retrofitting technology, for the plants where retrofitting of common activated sludge process is required. In this study, to evaluate the effluent BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations as process capable and stable parameters for treating municipal wastewater, a demonstration plant was installed and operated in the existing sewage treatment plant of P city. During this study, the average effluent BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations were 4.56, 5.20, 9.30, and 1.75 mg/L at the conventional mode and 3.95, 3.17, 7.65, and 1.18 mg/L at the modified mode. The modified mode (BOD: 3.69, SS: 3.19, T-N: 1.27, and T-P: 0.69) increased the process capability more than the conventional mode (BOD: 1.80, SS: 1.05, T-N: 2.17, and T-P: 0.15) in this study. If process capability over 1.0, this process is capable and stable to treat wastewater. Therefore, newly developed APID process with modified intermittent aeration mode can be one of the useful processes for stable organic matter and nutrients removal.

  • Activated carbon was prepared from pre-carbonized petroleum coke. Textural properties were determined from studies of the adsorption of nitrogen at 77 K and the surface chemistry was obtained using the Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer technique and the Boehm titration process. The adsorption of three aromatic compounds, namely phenol (P), p-nitrophenol (PNP) and benzoic acid (BA) onto APC in aqueous solution was studied in a batch system with respect to contact time, pH, initial concentration of solutes and temperature. Active carbon APC obtained was found to possess a high surface area and a predominantly microporous structure; it also had an acidic surface character. The experimental data fitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model well; also, the intraparticle diffusion was the only controlling process in determining the adsorption of the three pollutants investigated. The adsorption data fit well with the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The uptake of the three pollutants was found to be strongly dependent on the pH value and the temperature of the solution. Most of the experiments were conducted at pH 7; the $pH_{(PZC)}$ of the active carbon under study was 5.0; the surface of the active carbon was negatively charged. The thermodynamic parameters evaluated for APC revealed that the adsorption of P was spontaneous and exothermic in nature, while PNP and BA showed no-spontaneity of the adsorption process and that process was endothermic in nature.

  • Batch fermentations of lactic acid were performed with Lactobacillus casei to investigate the effect of pH on cell growth and production of lactic acid and by-products. Maximum productivity of lactic acid increased with increasing pH from 5.0 to 6.5, and the extent of D-lactate production was different at each pH. Acetate and D-lactate concentrations increased even after the complete consumption of glucose in the medium. While a pH range of 6.0-6.5 was optimal for cell growth and lactic acid production, superior results were achieved at pH 6.0 when both maximum lactic acid productivity and minimum by-product formation were considered.

  • The results of performing first survey after learning linear equation and second survey after 5 months to find out whether there is change in solving process while seventh grade students solve linear equations are as follows. First, as a result of performing McNemar Test in order to find out the correct answer ratio between first survey and second survey, it was shown as $p=.035^a$ in problem x+4=9 and $p=.012^a$ in problem $x+\frac{1}{4}=\frac{2}{3}$ of problem type A while being shown as $p=.012^a$ in problem x+3=8 and $p=.035^a$ in problem 5(x+2)=20 of problem type B. Second, while there were students not making errors in the second survey among students who made errors in the solving process of problem type A and B, students making errors in the second survey among the students who expressed the solving process correctly in the first survey were shown. Third, while there were students expressing the solving process of linear equation correctly for all problems (type A, type B and type C), there were students expressing several problems correctly and unable to do so for several problems. In conclusion, even if a student has expressed the solving process correctly on all problems, it would be difficult to foresee that the student is able to express properly in the solving process when another problem is given. According to the result of analyzing the reaction of students toward three problem types (type A, type B and type C), it is possible to determine whether a certain student is 'able' or 'unable' to express the solving process of linear equation by analyzing the problem solving process.

  • Panax ginseng has been used since ancient times based on the traditional Asian medicine theory and clinical experiences, and currently, is one of the most popular herbs in the world. To date, most of the studies concerning P. ginseng have focused on specific mechanisms of action of individual constituents. However, in spite of many studies on the molecular mechanisms of P. ginseng, it still remains unclear how multiple active ingredients of P. ginseng interact with multiple targets simultaneously, giving the multidimensional effects on various conditions and diseases. In order to decipher the systems-level mechanism of multiple ingredients of P. ginseng, a novel approach is needed beyond conventional reductive analysis. We aim to review the systems-level mechanism of P. ginseng by adopting novel analytical framework-network pharmacology. Here, we constructed a compound-target network of P. ginseng using experimentally validated and machine learning-based prediction results. The targets of the network were analyzed in terms of related biological process, pathways, and diseases. The majority of targets were found to be related with primary metabolic process, signal transduction, nitrogen compound metabolic process, blood circulation, immune system process, cell-cell signaling, biosynthetic process, and neurological system process. In pathway enrichment analysis of targets, mainly the terms related with neural activity showed significant enrichment and formed a cluster. Finally, relative degrees analysis for the target-disease association of P. ginseng revealed several categories of related diseases, including respiratory, psychiatric, and cardiovascular diseases.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine which variable is the best predictor of students' science-related attitudes. Three influential variables were tested : students' science achievement. students' science process skills, and teachers' attitudes toward science. This study has been made on the basis of questionnaire from 205 1st graders in 5 different middle schools in Seoul. The instruments used for measuring attitudes were TOSRA and the questionnaire developed by Sung-Jae Pak(1980). The instrument used for measuring science process skills was a standardized test developed by Youne-Woo Lee(1989). The results was analyzed by multiple-regression in the statistical packages SPSS/PC+. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1. The mean score of students' science-related attitudes was 66.8, and there was no significant difference according to gender of students and teachers(p> .05). 2. The mean score of students' science process skills was 61.1, and there was no significant difference according to gender of students and teachers(p> .05). 3. Students' science process skills was the best predictor of students' science-related attitudes among three variables(R=0.3102, p< .05). 4. The subjects were divided into 2 groups by students' science achievement. In the high score group, students' science achievement was the best predictor of students' science-related attitudes (R=0.3406, p<.05). And in the low score group, none of the variables was related to students' science-related attitudes (p> .05). 5. In students who has a male science teacher, students' science process skill was the best predictor of students' science-related attitudes (R=0.3220, p<.05). And in students who has a female science teacher, students' science achievement was the best predictor of students' science-related attitudes (R=0.3480, p<.05).
