  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the Limits of stability(LOS) in hemiplegic patients who can walking independently. The LOS was measured at stable surface, unstable surface with eye open and eye closed. In this study, 18 out-patients were evaluated who were treated at Yonsei University Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital. In order to determine the statistical significance of results, T-test, paired t-test, and Kruskal-Wallis 1-way ANOVA were applied at 0.05 level of significance. The results were as follows: 1. The mean of lateral limits of stability was 9.89 degree. 2. The mean of anteroposterior limits of stability was 6.43 degree. 3. There was a significant difference of limits of stability between sound side and affected side(p<0.05). 4. The limits of stability was significantly decreased with eye closed(p<0.05) 5. The limits of stability was significantly decreased at unstable surface(p<0.05). 6. The limits of stability was a significant difference as spasticity degree of ankle plantar flexors(p<0.05). These results showed that the limits of stability in hemiplegic patients was more decreased than that of normal adult. In order to improve the balance in hemiplegic patients, we need to increase the limits of stability.

  • This study has verified Family Functioning, Communication and Spiritual Wellbeing, to increase the family functioning in Adult Women. 236 adult women were chosen as the samples for the study, they are now currently registered in the church adult women in Seoul. The instruments used for this study were the Family functioning scale by Olson, the communication scale by David H. Olson and Howard L. Barnes and spiritual wellbing Scale by Palautzian and Ellison Folkman. Data collection were form March to April, 2003. To get the descriptive statistics, SPSS Program, Pearson Correlation Coefficients and stepwise multiple regression were used for analyzing data. The results were as following: 1. Represents the degree of family functioning, communication and spiritual wellbeing, on subjects. Means scores of this study are following: spiritual wellbeing 67.92, lower level of cohesive(5.19) and adaptive(3.93), communication 58.14, lower level of open(5.15) and closed(4.71) and family functioning 95.58, lower level of religious(7.70) and existential(7.63). All each lower level of family functioning, communication and spiritual wellbeing, on subjects were derived significantly different(p.05). There were significant correlation among the variables of subjects. The cohesive family functioning score was significant related to the adapted(r=.588). Especially, the closed communication score showed inverse correlations open family functioning(r=-.424) and open communication score(r=-.680). The existential spiritual wellbeing score also was significant related to the cohesive(p<.001) and adaptive(p<.05) family functioning, open communication(p<.05). Especially, the closed communication score showed inverse correlations existential spiritual wellbeing (r=-.202). The existential spiritual wellbeing score also was significant related to the religious(r=.815, p<.001). These results will not only emphasis the need of family functioning to elevate and decrease the Closed family communication but suggest the important points of gathering various data and analysis about economic, education and marital status. Finally, related to mental health nursing, a community can get the utmost out of these results to keep offering education and practice of family mental health for adult women.

  • Purpose: This experimental study was conducted to find out whether a water-mist fire suppression system can be applied to C.E.P., a representative combustible material of a rack storage. Method: First, it was confirmed whether the water-mist fire-extinguishing system used in this experiment was capable of extinguishing oil fires. After that, the C.E.P. boxes were loaded in the same small space as used in the oil fire experiment, and then the experiment was conducted on three scenarios; door opening, door closing, and door closing and increasing the internal load. The scenario was set considering the opening and space size conditions, which are important factors for the water-mist fire suppression. Result: Oil fire suppression tests have shown that fires are well extinguished in both the door open and closed conditions. In case of a fire of C.E.P. boxes in the same space condition as an oil fire, the fire was not extinguished in the door open condition. Fires were extinguished in the case with the door closed condition, but the afterglow was confirmed. Conclusion: In the oil fire suppression test, a water-mist fire suppression system extinguished a fire in both the door open and closed conditions. However, for the C.E.P fire, it was possible to extinguish only under the door closed condition, and there was a possibility of re-ignition.

  • Aluminium foams, having a closed cell structure, fabricated by applying the powder compact method and an induction heating were studied. The powdered A6061 mixed with the powdered titanium hydride as a foaming agent was hot pressed into a foamable precursor. The resulting precursor was foamed by induction heating up to desired temperature. The effects of the titanium hydride content ($0.3{\~}1.5 wt.\%$), pressing pressure of the foamable precursor material (50-150kN), the forming temperature ($610{\~}690^{\circ}C$) and heating rate during foaming on the expansion behavior of the foam were investigated.

  • A cluster made of $N_A,\;N_B\;and\;N_C$ atoms in the x, y and z directions respectively, is treated with Huckel method. We obtain the approximate expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of f.c.c., b.c.c. and h.c.p. clusters in closed forms. The maximum and minimum values of the band so obtained converge to those derived from the Bloch sum in the limit of infinite extension. For a small cluster (of $9{\times}9{\times}5$ atoms, for instance), LDOS from the analytical (approximate) solution manifests better agreement at the surface, than inside the bulk.

  • Vendors and consultants struggle to draw attention to their proven experience in discrete CIM in order to convince process manufacturers to adopt CIM technology. The analogy works very well at the periphery where an invoice is an invoice, but disintegrates at the core where modeling of the manufacturing "process" is required. Until recently, it has not been possible to completely and rigorously model entire process plants in real-time, and this missing core element has been called the "CIM GAP" With the recent introduction of the concurrent resolution $^{sm}$ kernel, the CIM GAP now is being closed in the process industries.ntroduction of the concurrent resolution $^{sm}$ kernel, the CIM GAP now is being closed in the process industries.

  • The experiment of thermal performance about closed-wet cooling tower was conducted in this study. A closed cooling tower is a device similar to a general cooling tower, but with cooling tower replaced by a heat exchanger. The test section for this experiment has the process that the cooling water flows from the top of the heat exchanger to the bottom side in the inner part of the tube, and spray water flows in the gravitational direction in the outer side. Air comes in direct contact with the spray water at the outer side of the tube while passing from the lower the upper part having a counterflow to the spray water. The heat transfer pipe used in this experiment is a bare-type tube having an outer diameter of 15.88mm. The heat exchanger is consisted of seven rows and fifteen columns. In this experiment, thermal performance of the cooling tower is derived from overall heat transfer coefficients between the process fluid and sprayed water and volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient between sprayed water and air.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of electromyographic (EMG)-Biofeedback using closed kinetic chain exercise (EB-CKCE) on quadriceps angle (Q-angle) and quadriceps muscle activation and muscle activation ratio in subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome and to provide fundamental information on rehabilitation exercise in patellofemoral pain syndrome. Methods: Thirty participants who met the criteria were included. The subjects were randomly divided into three groups: control group (Group I, n=10), semi-squat exercise group (Group II, n=10), and EMG-Biofeedback using closed kinetic chain exercise group (Group III, n=10). Intervention was provided to each group for eight weeks (three times per week; 30 minutes per day). Subjects were measured on Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation. Results: Significant difference in Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation was observed in groups II and III compared with control group I (p<0.01). Results of post-hoc analysis showed a significant difference in Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation in on group III compared with groups I and II. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that closed kinetic chain exercise using EMG-Biofeedback that provides real-time biofeedback information on muscle contraction may have a beneficial effect on improvement of Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation in patellofemoral pain syndrome.

  • The author examined the patterns and various ranges of mandibular movements in TMJ lock closed patients in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal plane and obtained the following results. 1. In the frontal trajectory, the mean amount of maximum mouth opening was 24.4mm and the opening paths were deviated to the affected side in 87.1% of the patients. The mean amount of maximum laterotrusion to the affected side was 10.4mm and that of non-affected side was 7.5mm. There was a significant difference between them(p<0.001). 2. In the sagittal trajectory, the mean amount of the maximum protrusion was 7.0mm, the mean amount of the maximal retrusion was 1.0mm 3. In the horizontal trajectory, the pattern of laterotrusion showed asymmetry: the mean length of non-affected side was smaller than that of the affected side. Protrusive path were deviated to the affected side in 64.5% of the patients, the mean degree of deviation was 16.4$^{\circ}$. The mandibular movements of TMJ lock-closed patients can be characterized by decreased range of mouth opening, protrusive movement, and laterotrusive movement to the non-affected side and also characterized by deviated opening and protrusive path to the affected side.
