  • This study deals with the prediction of crack propagation in concrete mortar subjected to static and dynamic load. Total 54 CLWL-DCB(Crack-line-loaded-double-cantilever beam) concrete mortar specimens were tested to measure crack growth using ASTM 561-80. Main variables were sand to cement ratio and water to cement ratio. The resulting load(P)-COD(Crack Opening Displacement; $2V_1$) curves and COD-CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement; $2V_2$) curves were analyzed to calculate effective crack length and physical crack length by way of ASTM 561-80 proposed. Replica crack length were also obtained directly during the test. The differences in crack propagation between under static load and under dynamic load were investigated.

  • Hydrochemical characteristics of deep groundwater at Surak-ri, Nonsan-gun, Chungnam Province was explained by major ion concentration, water type, and phase stability diagram. The area is composed of meta-sedimentary rock and quartz pophyry. The 5 boreholes where deep groundwater was sampled and analyzed are located on the meta-sedimentary rocks and drilling depth range of the wells is from 554 m to 928 m. pH, TDS, Na, and SiO2 values are high in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz pophyry, while Ca is high in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area. K and Mg concentrations are low but F concentration is high both groundwater. The content of major anions is in the order of CO3(HCO3)>Cl>SO4(F) in both geology, while that of major cations shows the order of Na>Ca>K(Mg) in meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz porphyry and a>Na>Mg>Na in meta-sedimentary area. Based on the phase equilibrium in the systems Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O and K2O-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O, the groundwater is saturated with respect to Quartz and more evolved compared with the natural mineral water. It is concluded that chemical evolution in the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area intruded by quartz porphyry, is nearly saturated with respect to feldspar, while the groundwater from meta-sedimentary area continue to proceed with increasing pH by reaction of feldspar.

  • Concrete reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars (FRP-RC) has attracted a significant amount of research attention in the last three decades. A limited number of studies, however, have investigated the effect of bond slip on the performance of FRP-RC columns under eccentric loading. Based on previous experimental study, a finite-element model of eccentrically loaded FRP-RC columns was established in this study. The bondslip behavior was modeled by inserting spring elements between FRP bars and concrete. The improved Bertero-Popov-Eligehausen (BPE) bond slip model with the results of existing FRP-RC pullout tests was introduced. The effect of bond slip on the entire compression-bending process of FRP-RC columns was investigated parametrically. The results show that the initial stiffness of bond slip is the most sensitive parameter affecting the compression-bending performance of columns. The peak bond stress and the corresponding peak slip produce a small effect on the maximum loading capacity of columns. The bondslip softening has little effect on the compression-bending performance of columns. The sectional analysis revealed that, as the load eccentricity and the FRP bar diameter increase, the reducing effect of bond slip on the flexural capacity becomes more obvious. With regard to bond slip, the axial-force-bending-moment (P-M) interaction diagrams of columns with different FRP bar diameters show consistent trends. It can be concluded from this study that for columns reinforced with large diameter FRP bars, the flexural capacity of columns at low axial load levels will be seriously overestimated if the bond slip is not considered.

  • In this paper, we have presented the observational result for the photometric quality of main telescopes in Gimhae Astronomical Observatory. Also we performed the observation of searching new minor planets as competitive work in public observatories. The observation was carried out using 60cm telescope of Gimhae Astronomical Observatory on 2007 January 13. And, $Sch\ddot{u}ler$ BVI filters and 1K CCD camera (AP8p) were used. To define the quality of CCD photometry, we observed the region of well-known standard stars in the open cluster M67. From observed data, The transformation coefficients and airmass coefficients were obtained, and the accuracy of CCD photometry was investigated. From PSF photometry, we obtained the color-magnitude diagram of M67, and considered the useful magnitude limit and the physical properties of M67. This method can be successfully used to confirm the photometric quality of main telescope in public observatories. To investigate the detection possibility of unknown object as astroid, we observed the near area of the opposition in the ecliptic plane. And we discussed the result. Our result show that it can be possible to detect minor planets in solar system brighter than $V{\sim}18.3mag$. and it can carry out photometric study brighter than V 16mag. in Gimhae Astronomical Observatory. These results imply that the public observatories can make the research work.

  • During the lifecycle of a nuclear power plant many organizations are involved in KOREA. Korea Plant Engineering Co. (KOPEC) participates in the design stage, Korea Hydraulic and Nuclear Power (KHNP) operates and manages all nuclear power plants in KOREA, Dusan Heavy Industries manufactures the main equipment, and a construction company constructs the plant. Even though each organization has a digital data management system inside and obtains a certain level of automation, data sharing among organizations is poor. KHNP gets drawing and technical specifications from KOPEC in the form of paper. It results in manual re-work of definition and there are potential errors in the process. A data warehouse based on a neutral model has been constructed in order to make an information bridge between design and O&M phases. GPM(generic product model), a data model from Hitachi, Japan is addressed and extended in this study. GPM has a similar architecture with ISO 15926 "life cycle data for process plant". The extension is oriented to nuclear power plants. This paper introduces some of implementation results: 1) 2D piping and instrument diagram (P&ID) and 3D CAD model exchanges and their visualization; 2) Interface between GPM-based data warehouse and KHNP ERP system.

  • This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of magnetizer for convergence purity magnet by the finite element method. The analysis utilizes combined method of the time-stepped finite element analysis and the Preisach model with hysteresis phenomena. In the finite element analysis, the non-linearity and the eddy current of the magnetizing fixure and permanent-magnet are taken account. The magnetization distribution in the permanent magnet is determined by using Preisach model which are composed of Everett function table and the first order transition curves is obtained by the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. The calculated flux density values on the surface of the permanent magnet are led to the approximated gauss density values measured by the gauss meter. As a result, winding current, copper loss, eddy current loss of the magnetizing yoke, flux plot, surface gauss plot, temperature rise of the coil and resistor variation, vector diagram of magnetization distribution are shown.

  • This paper introduces an improved design equation to evaluate the resisting capacity of circular reinforced concrete (RC) columns partially strengthened with outer steel tube. When RC column members are required to be strengthened according to the change in the loadings considered and/or the deterioration progress in columns, wrapping up RC column with steel circular tube, which takes the form of concrete filled steel tube (CFST), has been popularly considered because of its structural advantage induced from the confinement effect. However, the relatively high construction cost of steel tube is restricting its use to the required region, while deriving the shape of a partial CFST column. To evaluate the resisting capacity of a partial CFST column, numerical analyses need to be performed, and a numerical model proposed in the previous study for the numerical analysis of full CFST columns is used to conduct parametric studies for the introduction of a design equation. The bond-slip effect developed along the interface between the in-filled concrete and the exterior steel tube is taken into consideration and the validity of the numerical model has been established through correlation studies between experimental data and numerical results for partial CFST circular columns. Moreover, parametric studies make it possible to introduce a design equation for determining the optimum length of outer steel tube which produces partial CFST circular columns.

  • This paper emphasizes the use of CFT columns in frame structures subjected to strong horizontal forces and shows that the efficiency of using CFT columns is increased when the plastic design approach is adopted. Because the plastic design approach is based on redistribution of the force of the internal member, a double node for the rotational degrees of freedom, where the adjacent two rotational degrees of freedom can be connected by a non-dimensional spring element, is designed and implemented into the formulation. In addition, an accompanying criterion is considered in order to make it possible to describe the continuous moment redistribution in members connected to a nodal point up to a complete plastic state. The efficiency of CFT columns is reviewed in comparison with RC columns in terms of the cost and the resistance capacity, as defined by a P-M interaction diagram. Three representative frame structures are considered and the obtained results show that the most efficient and economical design can be expected when the use of CFT columns is considered on the basis of the plastic design, especially when a frame structure is subjected to significant horizontal forces, as in a high-rise building.

  • The Fe-TM-C-N nanocrystalline films (TM : Hf, Zr and Nb) are investigated to examine the relation between microstructure and soft magnetic properties. In these films, as the atomic radius of TM element increases, $P_{N2}$ which was added to get good soft magnetic properties was decreased and the maximum value of the permeability shifted to the high Fe range in the composition diagram. The best soft magnetic properties achieved in these films are : Hc of 0.15 Oe, $\mu_{eff}$ of 7800 (1MHz) and $4{\pi}M_{s}$ of 17.5 kG in Fe-Hf-C-N film ; Hc of 0.06 Oe, $\mu_{eff}$ of 2750 (1MHz) and $4{\pi}M_{s}$ of 16.8 kG in Fe-Zr-C-N film and Hc of 0.31 Oe; $\mu_{eff}$ of 2100 (1MHz) and $4{\pi}M_{s}$ of 15.5 kG in Fe-Nb-C-N film. It was considered that the stronger the bonding force between TM and C(N), the finer TM(C,N) phase is precipitated and therefore, the finer $\alpha$-Fe grains are formed. The effective permeability of the Fe-Zr-C-N films and Fe-Nb-C-N films remains nearly constant up to 10 MHz.
