The plastic stress distribution method and the strain compatibility method are the two representative methods to calculate the P-M interaction strength of RCFT (rectangular concrete filled tube) columns. The plastic stress distribution method is approximate while the stress compatibility method should approach the exact solution if accurate constitutive relations of the materials involved are used. Recent study by the authors pointed out that, because of lack of accurate constitutive model for the concrete confined by the rectangular steel tube, no strain compatibility method according to the current structural provisions provides a satisfactory prediction of the P-M interaction strength of RCFT columns under various material combinations. An empirical constitutive model which can capture the stress-strain characteristics of the confined concrete of RCFT columns is proposed based on analyzing extensive exisitng test database. The key idea was to define the concrete crushing strain as a function of steel-to-concrete strength ratio and width-to-thickness ratio of steel tube. It was shown that the proposed model leads to more accurate and more consistent prediction of the P-M interaction strength of RCFT columns under general design conditions.

The structural provisions of rectangular CFT (concrete-filled tubular) columns in the 2005/2010 AISC Specification, ACI 318-08, and EC4 were comparatively analyzed as a preliminary study for establishing the unified standards for composite structures. The provisions analyzed included those related to the nominal strength, the effect of confinement, plate slenderness, effective flexural stiffness, and the material strength limitations. Small or large difference can be found among the provisions of AISC, ACI, and EC4. Generally, the 2010 AISC Specification provides the revised provisions which reflect up-to-date test results and tries to minimize the conflict with the ACI provisions. For example, the 2010 AISC Specification introduced a more finely divided plate slenderness limits for CFT columns. In seismic applications, the plate slenderness limits required for highly and moderately ductile CFT columns were separately defined. However, the upper cap limitations on material strengths in both the AISC and EC4 provisions are too restrictive and need to be relaxed considering the high-strength material test database currently available. This study found that no provisions reviewed in this paper provide a generally satisfactory method for predicting the P-M interaction strength of CFT columns under various material combinations. It is also emphasized that a practical constitutive model, which can reasonably reflect the stress-strain characteristics of confined concrete of rectangular CFT columns, is urgently needed for a reliable prediction of the P-M interaction strength.

Recently, high performance steels have been utilized to structural materials in buildings and bridges with the demand for high-rise and long-span of main structures. In this paper, flexure-compression members with the high-strength steel were experimentally evaluated to satisfy the design criteria when stub columns fabricated with HSA800 steel were eccentrically loaded. This test was conducted on box-shaped and H-shaped steels stub columns with high-strength steel to verify the P-M interaction of members subjected to combined forces according to axial load ratios. The results showed that all specimens were satisfied the requirements of Korean Building Code(KBC2009) for using of structural members.
In this study, stub columns subjected to concentrical and eccentrical loads were tested to check the applicability of the current local stability criteria (KBC2009, AISC2005) to 800MPa high-strength steel (HSA800). The key test variables in the concentrically loaded tests included the plate-edge restraints and the width-to-thickness ratio normalized by the yield strength of steel. Specimens made of ordinary steel (SM490) were also tested for comparative purposes. Eccentrically loaded stub column tests were conducted for a range of the P-M combinations by controlling the loading eccentricity. All the concentrically loaded specimens with non-compact and slender sections developed sufficient strengths according to the current local stability criteria. All the eccentrically loaded specimens with non-compact H sections also exhibited a sufficient P-M interaction strength that was even higher than that of compact H- section counterparts. Residual stresses were also measured by using the non-destructive indentation method to demonstrate their dependency or independency on the steel material's yield strength. The measured results of this study also indicated that the magnitude of residual stresses bears no strong relation to the yield strength of the steel material.
This study was investigated to determine the effect of additives and ionic strength on the functionality of extracted proteins in preblends in order to use less additive in restructured meat products. Preblends contained the combinations of sodium chloride (NaCl; 0, 4.5, 9.0%), sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP; 0, 2.5, 5.0%), and tetrasodium pyrophosphate (PP; 0, 2.44, 4.88%). The pH values increased linearly with increasing STPP and PP concentrations (p<0.01). In the equivalent ionic strengths, PP was more effective than STPP in increasing pH. Phosphate ions were more effective on total extractable protein (used 1 M NaCl buffer) than chloride ion at equivalent ionic strengths. Solubility was decreased by adding NaCl and increasing total extractable proteins. Meat sulfhydryl contents were high with increasing total extractable proteins. When protein extracts were heated at $65^{\circ}C$, 7 min, meat sulfhydryl contents decreased and surface hydrophobicity increased (p<0.01). However, all protein extracts showed no differences in SDS-PAGE pattern. In conclusion, PP is more effective than STPP in order to use less additive but there was no linear relationship between functionnal improvement and ionic strength.

The objective of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths of five dentin adhesive systems cured with three different light curing sources. Seventy five noncarious permanent teeth were collected and stored in an 0.1% thymol solution at room temperature after extraction. The tested adhesives were: Adper Scotchbond Multi-purpose Plus Adhesive (SM) Adper Single bond 2 (SB), Clearfil SE Bond (SE), Adper Prompt L-Pop (PL), G-Bond (GB). And three light curing unit systems were used: Elipar Free light 2(LED), OptiLux 501 (Halogen), Flipo (PAC). For the shear bonding test, the labial and lingual surfaces of permanent teeth were used. To obtain a flat dentin surface, the labial and lingual surfaces of the teeth were sanded on SiO2 with number 600 grit and then divided into 15 groups of 10 surfaces each. All samples were theromocycled in water $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ for 1000 cycles. The results were as follows: 1. When cured with Freelight 2, the shear bond strength of SM was significantly higher than that of PL, GB (p<0.05), whereas no significant difference was found among those of any other bonding agents. 2. When cured with Optilux 501, the shear bond strength of SM was significantly higher than those of any other bonding agents (p<0.05), whereas no singnificant difference was found among those of andy other bonding agents. 3. When cured with Flipo, the shear bond strength of SM was significantly higher than those of SB, SE, GB (p<0.05), whereas no significant differences was found among those of any other bonding agents. 4. For comparison according to three different light cure unit system, except SB and GB, each three dentin bonding agents showed no significant difference. For SB, only Freelight 2 was significantly higher than the others, with no significant difference between Optilux 501 and Flip. For GB, Statistically significant difference was found only between Freelight and Flipo.
Helicobacter pylori is the etiologic agent of human gastritis and peptic ulceration and produces urease as the major protein component on its surface. H. pylori urease is known to serve as a major virulence factor and a potent immunogen. Recombinant H. pylori urease expressed in E. coli was purified by simple purification procedures utilizing (CNBr-activated Sepharose-anti-urease IgG immunoaffinity chromatography or epoxy- activated Sepharose-urea affinity chromatography. Urease was apparently bound so tightly to the anti-urease IgG resin that it could not be eluted at various elution conditions except at certain extreme pH 1, including 100 mM carbonate (pH 10.5) buffer solution, which was shown to elute slightly inactivated but relatively pure enzyme. Urease eluted from the epoxy-activated Sepharose-urea affinity column showed higher activity, but the smaller UreA subunit of the enzyme appeared as a Fainter band of diminished intensity when subjected to SDS-polyamide gel electrophoresis.

FRP(Fiber glass reinforced plastics) is compound with materials, which are created to combine each other materials, of which nature of mechanical and chemical are different. Even though the weight and the thickness are identic, its physical figure of characteristic changes with consisting of lay-up and work situation. It is also a method of creating after manufacturing of mould. It has feature that manufacturing of FRP runs parallel design of material with design of structure simultaneously. The rule of FRP structure is distinguished from the length of a ship and it is hard to catch the feature of structure mechanics due to identical formula and figure used for it regardless of the shape of a ship or the speed. This studying, basing on a small FRP ship, will show te fundamental data needed to design of structure analysing the feature of intensity with direction, the method of Lay-up, and the characteristic of materials of FRP.

This study investigated the degradation of phenol using sonication and/or UV-C. The effects of frequency, temperature, pH in solution, argon purging, with UV intensity were estimated in sonication-only, UV-only, and the combined reaction of sonication with UV. The optimum condition for degrading phenol in the sonication-only reaction was 35 kHz, $5^{\circ}C$, and pH 4. As this condition approximately 30% degradation of phenol was achieved within 360 min. However, phenol in the UV-only at $19.3\;mw/cm^2$ under the same condition was completely degraded within 60 min. In the combined system of sonication with UV, the degradation of phenol was well fitted to first-order rate model, and phenol was completely degraded within 360 min and 45 min at UV intensity of $7.6\;mW/cm^2$($17.3{\times}10^{-3}\;min^{-1}$) and $19.3\;mW/cm^2$($138.1{\times}10^{-3}\;min^{-1}$), respectively. Adding methanol, as a radical scavenger, in the phenol degradation in the sonication reaction indicates that OH radical is a major factor in the degradation of phenol. The order of degradation efficiencies of phenol was in the order of as follows; combined reaction of sonication with UV > UV-only > sonication-only.

This paper describes the application of bioluminescence stimulating agents on a genetically engineered microorganism, Pseudomonas putida mt-2 KG1206, to monitor toluene analogs using in groundwater samples from petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated sites. The maximum bioluminescent response with pure chemicals followed in the order: m-methyl benzyl alchohol > m-toluate > toluene > m-xylene > benzoate > p-xylene > o-xylene. Generally, the bioluminescence production of strain mixed with groundwater samples was dependent on the contaminated total inducer concentrations. However, few samples showed opposite results, where these phenomena may be caused by the complexicity of environmental samples. Two chemicals, SL(sodium lactate) and KNO$_3$, were tested to determine a better bioluminescence stimulant. Both chemicals stimulate the bioluminescence activity of strain KG1206, however, a slightly high bioluminescence was observed with nitrogen chemical. This selected stimulant was then tested on samples collected from contaminated groundwater samples. The bioluminescence activity of all samples mixed with the strain was stimulated with KNO$_3$ amendment. This suggests that the low bioluminescence activity exhibited by the environmental groundwater samples can be stimulated by amending the culture with a proper agent, such as nitrogen compound. These findings would be useful, especially, when strain was used to monitor the groundwater samples contaminated with low inducer contaminants. Overall, the results of this study found the ability of bioluminescence producing bacteria to biosensor a specific group of environmental contaminants, and suggest the potential for more efficient preliminary application of this engineered strain in a field-ready bioassay.
