Relationship Between Tumor Angiogenesis, Stage and Prognosis in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (비소세포 폐암에서 종양 혈관신생과 병기 및 예후와의 관련성)

  • Background : Tumor angiogenesis is required for tumor growth and metastasis. In this study, we investigated the correlation between the intensity of angiogenesis and stage, nodal status, histologic type, metastasis and survival rate of non-small cell lung cancer. Method : Formalin fixed, paraffin embedded surgical specimens of 45 patients who had surgically resected primary non-small cell lung cancers without pre or post operative adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy were examined. The microvessel count(MVC) was demonstrated by immunohistochemical staining for CD31(platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule, PECAM). Results : Microvessel counts(MVCs) in stage IIIA and IIIB were higher than in stage I and II(p<0.05). The MVC in patients with lymph node metastasis was higher than that in patients without lymph node metastasis, although the difference was not statistically significant(p>0.05). However, in adenocarcinoma, the MVC in patients with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than that seen in patients without lymph node metastasis(p<0.05). The MVC in adenocarcinoma was higher than that in squamous cell carcinoma(p<0.05). The difference between the MVCs of adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma was not statistically significant in stage I and II or N0 stage(p>0.05). However, in stage IIIA and IIIB or N1~3 stage, the MVC in adenocarcinoma was higher than that in squamous cell carcinoma(p<0.05). MVC was more increased when metastasis developed within 12 months. In the same histologic type and stage, the duration of survival time in patients with high MVC was shorter than in patients with low MVC, however the difference was not statistically significant(p>0.05). The survival rate in patients with high MVCs was lower than that in patients with low MVCs(P<0.05). Conclusion : In non-small cell lung cancer, MVC correlated relatively well with pathologic stage, nodal status(limited in patients with adenocarcinoma), histologic type, postoperative metastasis and survival rate. However, in the same histologic type and stage, MVC was not significantly related to the duration of survival. Therefore the assessment of the intensity of angiogenesis in non-small cell lung cancer may be helpful in predicting prognosis and in selecting patients for systemic adjuvant therapy of potential metastasis according to the results.

  • Double ionization of the K- shell accompanying K- shell electron capture of the 0.035 MeV transition of $^{125}I$ has been studied by counting coincidences between $K_{\alpha}$ hypersatellite X-rays and Ka satellite X-rays emitted when double vacancies are filled. The $^{125}I\;and\;^{125}Te^m$ source materials were used in the measurement. We obtained the coincidence spectrum using two NaI(T1) detectors and a Ge(Li) detector and TAC(Time-to-Amplitude Converter), and then analysed the measured coincidence number $N(K_{\alpha}^{II},\;K_{\alpha}^s)$, the total number $N(K_{\alpha})$ of K X-ray. The probability per K-shell electron capture that a double vacancy is formed, $P_{KK}$ is formed, $P_{KK}$ is found to be $2.15{\times}10^{-4}$.

  • 1차원 구조체인 반도체 나노선은 앙자제한효과 (quantum confinement effect) 등을 이용하여 고밀도/고효율의 소자 개발이 기대되고 있다. GaN는 상온에서 3.4 eV의 밴드갭 에너지를 갖는 III-V 족 반도체 재료로써 박막의 경우 광전자 소자로 폭넓게 응용되고 있다. 최근 GaN 나노선의 합성에 성공하면서 발광소자, 고효율의 태양전지, HEMT 등으로의 응용을 위한 많은 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 하지만, 아직까지 GaN 나노선의 전기적 특성을 제어하는 기술은 확립되지 않고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Vapor solid (VS)법을 이용하여 GaN 나노선을 합성하였으며, GaN 분말과 함께 $Mg_2N_3$ 분말을 첨가하여 (Ga,Mg)N 나노선을 성공적으로 합성하였다. 합성시에 GaN와 Mg 소스간의 거리 변화를 통해 Mg 도핑농도를 제어하고자 하였다. 이 같은 방법으로 합 된 (Ga,Mg)N 나노선의 Mg 도핑농도에 따른 결정학적 특성을 알아보고, (Ga,Mg)N 나노선을 이용하여 소자를 제작한 후 그 전기적 특성을 살펴보고자 한다. X-ray diffraction (XRD)과 high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), EDX를 이용하여 합성된 나노선의 결정학적 특성과 Mg의 도핑 농도를 확인하였다. Photo lithography와 e-beam lithography법을 이용하여 (Ga,Mg)N 나노선 field-effect transistor (FET)를 제작하고, channel current-drain voltage ($I_{ds}-V_{ds}$) 와 channel current-gate voltage ($I_{ds}-V_g$) 측정을 통해 (Ga,Mg)N 나노선이 도핑 농도에 따라 n형에서 p형으로 전기적 특성이 변화함을 확인하였다.

  • As a study on the konjak mannan-hydrolyzing enzymes from Aspergillus awamori, the culture conditions for enzyme formation, purification and properties of the enzymes and the effect of gamma-irradiation on the enzymatic hydrolysis were investigated. The results are summarized as follows: 1) A strain of A. awamori was selected as having the highest productivity of mannanase among 81 species of molds. 2) The optimum conditions for solid culture on wheat bran were 3 days of culture period, pH 4 of spraying water and 100% addition of tap water. 3) The optimum conditions for shaking culture were 6 days of culture period, addition of 0.1% xylose plus 0.5% konjak mannan and of 0.04% peptone. 4) Konjak mannan-hydrolyzing enzymes were separated into fraction I and fraction II by ammonium sulfate fractionation and DEAE-Sephadex column chromatography. 5) Fractions I and II showed pH optima of 4, pH stability of $3.5{\sim}5$ and $3{\sim}6$ and the extent of hydrolyzing konjak mannan 9% and 50%, respectively. 6) Hydrolysis of konjak mannan by a crude enzyme preparation was partially accerelated by gamma-irradiation of substrate above 0.5 Mrad and the effect was more remarkable by irradiating in wet state than in dry state. 7) Gamma-irradiation of konjak mannan brought about the increase in reducing power and decrease in viscosity and the effect was more remarkable in wet state than in dry state.

Imaging Characteristics of Computed Radiography Systems (CR 시스템의 종류와 I.P 크기에 따른 정량적 영상특성평가)

  • With recent advancement of the medical imaging systems and picture archiving and communication system (PACS), installation of digital radiography has been accelerated over past few years. Moreover, Computed Radiography (CR) which was well established for the foundation of digital x-ray imaging systems at low cost was widely used for clinical applications. This study analyzes imaging characteristics for two systems with different pixel sizes through the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), Noise Power Spectrum (NPS) and Detective Quantum Efficiency (DQE). In addition, influence of radiation dose to the imaging characteristics was also measured by quantitative assessment. A standard beam quality RQA5 based on an international electro-technical commission (IEC) standard was used to perform the x-ray imaging studies. For the results, the spatial resolution based on MTF at 10% for Agfa CR system with I.P size of $8{\times}10$ inches and $14{\times}17$ inches was measured as 3.9 cycles/mm and 2.8 cycles/mm, respectively. The spatial resolution based on MTF at 10% for Fuji CR system with I.P size of $8{\times}10$ inches and $14{\times}17$ inches was measured as 3.4 cycles/mm and 3.2 cycles/mm, respectively. There was difference in the spatial resolution for $14{\times}17$ inches, although radiation dose does not effect to the MTF. The NPS of the Agfa CR system shows similar results for different pixel size between $100{\mu}m$ for $8{\times}10$ inch I.P and $150{\mu}m$ for $14{\times}17$ inch I.P. For both systems, the results show better NPS for increased radiation dose due to increasing number of photons. DQE of the Agfa CR system for $8{\times}10$ inch I.P and $14{\times}17$ inch I.P resulted in 11% and 8.8% at 1.5 cycles/mm, respectively. Both systems show that the higher level of radiation dose would lead to the worse DQE efficiency. Measuring DQE for multiple factors of imaging characteristics plays very important role in determining efficiency of equipment and reducing radiation dose for the patients. In conclusion, the results of this study could be used as a baseline to optimize imaging systems and their imaging characteristics by measuring MTF, NPS, and DQE for different level of radiation dose.

  • The complexation behavior of the $\alpha$-ketostabilized phosphorus ylides $Ph_3P$=CHC(O) $C_6H_4-X$ (X=Br, Ph) towards the transition metal ions mercury (II) and Silver (I) was investigated. The mercury(II) complex {$HgX_2$ [Y]} 2 ($Y_1$=4-bromo benzoyl methylene triphenyl phosphorane; X=Cl(1), Br(2), I(3), $Y_2$=4-phenyl benzoyl methylene triphenyl phosphorane; X=Cl(4), Br(5), I(6)) have been prepared from the reaction of $Y_1$ and $Y_2$ with $HgX_2$ (X=Cl, Br, I) respectively. Silver complexes [$Ag(Y_2)_2]$ X(X=$BF_4$(7), OTf(8)) of the $\alpha$-keto-stabilized phosphorus ylides ($Y_2$) were obtained by reacting this ylide with AgX (X=$BF_4$, OTf) in $Me_2CO$. The crystal structure of complexes (1) and (4) was discussed. These reactions led to binuclear complexes C-coordination of ylide and trans-like structure of complexes $[Y_1HgCl_2]_2$. $CHCl_3$ (1) and $[Y_2HgCl_2]_2$ (4) is demonstrated by single crystal X-ray analyses. Not only all of complexes have been studied by IR, $^1H$ and $^{31}P$ NMR spectroscopy, but also complexes 1-3 have been characterized by $^{13}$CNMR.

원자로 생산 방사성 핵종의 임상이용

  • 핵의학(nuclear medicine )이 란 방사성 및 안정 핵종의 동위원소표지 화합물을 인체에 투여하여, 관심장기의 형태 및 기능을 평가하여 해부학적 또는 생리학적 상태를 진단, 치료하는 의학의 전문 분야이다. 핵의학에 이용되던 방사성 핵종은 1960년대 까지만 해도 $^{131}$ I이 주였으나 1970년대 부터는 $^{99}$Mo -$^{99m}$ Tc 발생기와 $^{99m}$ TC으로 표지된 방사성의 약품이 활발히 이용되면서 $^{131}$ I을 대신하게 되었다. 원자로-생산핵종들의 특성은 중성자가 과잉이어 붕괴시 배타입자를 방출하는 점으로, 이것이 각종 질병의 치료에 이용되고 있다. 특히 각종 표시 화합물의 성질을 이용하여 원하는 부위에 방사선을 집중시킬 수 있음이 외부조사보다 유리한 점이다. 방사성핵종을 이용한 악성종양의 치료에 가장 성공적인 것은 분화된 갑상선 암환자에서 $^{131}$ I을 사용한 것이며, 갈색세포종 등에 $^{131}$ I-MIBG도 효과적이다. 악성종양의 골전이 치료에 베타선을 방출하는$^{32}$P, $^{186}$ Re, $^{153}$ Sm 등이 이용되었다. 종양의 동맥에 주입하여 세동맥이나 모세혈관에 걸리는 기름, 교진 또는 입자에 의한 치료에 $^{131}$ I-lipiodol, ethiodol, $^{32}$P 또는$^{90}$ Y흡사 ceramic resin 미소구 $^{166}$ Ho 유산중합체 미소구 등이 이용된다. $^{166}$ Ho, $^{198}$ Au, $^{32}$P, $^{90}$ Y, $^{169}$ Er, $^{186}$ Rc, $^{131}$ I, $^{211}$ At 등 의 방사성 핵종의 교질, 미소구 또는 단세포군 항체표지 형태로 직접 종양내 또는 공동이나 체강에 투여하는 치료법이 있다. 류마치스 관절염의 슬관절에 $^{165}$ Dy colloid를 주사하는 $^{166}$ Ho-MAA도 활발히 이용되고 있다.

mtDNA Analysis of 5 Species of the genera Moroco and Phoxinus(Pisces, Leuciscinae) (황어아과어류 2속 5종의 mtDNA분석)

  • 한국산 담수어류의 잉어목, 황어아과(Leuciscinae) 어류 2속 5종의 계통적 유연관계를 구명하기 위하여 mtDNA분석을 실시하였다 6 base를 인지하는 10개의 제한효소를 처리하여 얻어진 강tDNA의 크기는 16.5-17.5 Kb였으며 Bcl I, Bgl I, Bgl II, Hin dIII, Pvu II, Xba I 등은 종간 차이가 뚜렷하였다. 각종의 집단간 mtDNA분화정도는 매우 낮았으나(p=1% 미만) M. oxyephalus의 무주집단과 제주집단은 예리적으로 큰 차이를 보였다(p=5.3%) Moroco속의 종간 분화정도를 비교한 결과 M. oxycephafus와 M. lagowsk서 사이가 평균 f=7.2%로 근면관계가 제일 가까웠고 M. keumkang과 M. semotilus는 타종들과 근연관계가 제일 멀었다. Moroco속과 Phoxinus속간의 평균 유전적 분화정도는 f=13.7%로 현저한 차이를 보였다. Brown 등(1979)의 공식을 이용하여 이들 황어아과 2속 5종의 분화시기를 추정한 결과 이들은 후기 선신세(Pliocene)와 흥적세(Pleistocene) 사이에 분화된 것으로 추정되었으며 이 결과는 동위효소 연구에서 얻어진 결파(Yang and Min, 1989)와 잘 일치한다.

Studies on Solvent Extraction and Analytical Application of Metal Dithiocarbamate Complexes(II). Extraction Equilibria of Metal-Dibenzylammonium dibenzyldithiocarbamate Complexes (Dithiocarbamate 금속착물의 용매추출 및 분석적 응용(제2보) Dibenzylammonium dibenzyldithiocarbamate 금속착물의 추출평형)

  • Basic studies for the effective extraction of dibenzylammonium dibenzyldithiocarbamate(DBADBDC) complexes of Ag(I), Pd(II), Au(III) and Pt(IV) into chloroform have been conducted. The effects of pH on the extraction of ligand itself and metal cemplexes showed that DBADBDC itself was uniformly extracted in the pH range of 2~9 and metal complexes were effectively extracted at the pH range as follows. That is, Ag(I) : in an acidic aqua medium, Pd(II) : > 4, Au(III) : wide range, and Pt(IV) : > 3. The distribution ratio and extractabilities were obtained from the partition and extraction equilibria of metal-DBDC complexes between aqueous solution and chloroform. Ag(I) : log D=4.226 : E(%)=99.9% in the aqueous solution of pH 0, Pd(II) : log D=1.804 : E(%)=98.5% at pH 4~7, Au(III) : log D=3.755 : E(%)=99.9% at pH 2~10, and Pt(IV) : log D=0.165 : E(%)=57.2% at pH 8.0. And also mole ratio of metal ion to ligand in complexes were determined by mole ratio method : 1 : 1 for Ag(I) and 1 : 2 for Pd(II), Au(III) and Pt(IV). $Cl^-$ was included as a coordination species in complexes of Au(III) and Pt(IV). Besides, extraction mechanisms of compleses sere examined in the presence of chloride ion in an aquous solution, and extraction reactions and estraction constants could be proposed and calculated, respectively.
