Graphene field-effect transistors (GFET) is one of candidates for future high speed electronic devices since graphene has unique electronic properties such as high Fermi velocity (vf=10^6 m/s) and carrier mobility ($15,000cm^2/V{\cdot}s$) [1]. Although the contact property between graphene and metals is a crucial element to design high performance electronic devices, it has not been clearly identified. Therefore, we need to understand characteristics of graphene/metal contact in the GFET. Recently, it is theoretically known that graphene on metal can be doped by presence of interface dipole layer induced by charge transfer [2]. It notes that doping type of graphene under metal is determined by difference of work function between graphene and metal. In this study, we present the GFET fabricated by contact metals having high work function (Pt, Ni) for p-doping and low work function (Ta, Cr) for n-doping. The results show that asymmetric conductance depends on work function of metal because the interfacial dipole is locally formed between metal electrodes and graphene. It induces p-n-p or n-p-n junction in the channel of the GFET when gate bias is applied. In addition, we confirm that charge transfer regions are differently affected by gate electric field along gate length.

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the potential role of Lactobacillus Plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 on the quality and fermentation characterization of Italian ryegrass (IRG) silages. The physiochemical properties of IRG silage such as crude protein content, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, total digestible nutrient and in vitro dry matter digestibility were not affected by KCC-10 and KCC-19. The pH of IRG silage in KCC-10 and KCC-19 treatments decreased compared to the control (p<0.05), while the lactic acid content in KCC-10 and KCC-19 treatments increased compared to the control (p<0.05). In addition, the number of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in the KCC-10 treatment increased compared to the control (p<0.05). The number of lactic acid bacteria in KCC-19 increased, but there was no significant difference in all treatments. Therefore, we recommend L. plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 as potential additive candidates in IRG silage with lots of advantages.
Purpose: This study analyzed the effects of a health policy capacity development education program as a publicprivate partnership (PPP) model in official development assistance (ODA) for health policy administrators. Methods: Between October 2015 and September 2017, 41 participants from underdeveloped countries completed the three-week education program at K university, following the official selection process of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and each country's embassy. Results: The effects of the health policy capacity development education program differed significantly according to participants' age (p=.043), country region (p=.045), and academic or professional degree (p=.007). Academic or professional degree significantly predicted the effects of the program (β=.41, p=.007), explaining 21.7% of the variance in the regression model. Conclusion: The current selection process for ODA program participants considers recommendations from each country's embassy to determine eligible candidates. The hosting institution's opinions or suggestions regarding participants' professional expertise or work experience, country region, or demographic characteristics should also be considered in the participant selection process.
Multiple drug administration is common in elderly, HIV, and cancer patients. Such treatments may result in drug-drug interactions due to interference at the metabolic enzyme level, and due to modulation of transporter protein functions. Both kinds of interference may result in altered drug distribution and toxicity in the human body. In this review, we have dealt with drug-drug interactions related to the most studied human transporter, P-glycoprotein. This transporter is constitutively expressed in several sites in the human body. Its function can be studied in vitro with different cell lines expressing P-glycoprotein in experiments using methods and equipment such as flow cytometry, cell proliferation, cell-free ATP as activity determination and Transwell culture equipment. In vivo experiments can be carried out by mdr1a(-/-) animals and by noninvasive methods such as NMR spectrometry. Some examples are also given for determination of possible drug-drug interactions using the above-mentioned cell lines and methods. Such preclinical studies may influence decisions concerning the fate of new drug candidates and their possible dosages. Some examples of toxicities obtained in clinics and summarized in this review indicate careful consideration in cases of polypharmacy and the requirement of preclinical studies in drug development activities.

This study was carried out to obtain a basic information for the improvement of human health and the development of variety through analysis of organic compounds, contents of three CQA(3-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-caffeoylquinic acid and 5-caffeoylquinic acid) and five anthocyanin (petunidin-3-p-cumaroylrutinoside-5-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-p-cumaroylrutin-oside-5-glucoside, peonidin-3-p-cumaroylrutinoside-5-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-p-feruloyl-rutinoside-5-glucoside and peonidin-3-feruloylrutinoside-5-glucoside)to color potatoes is Hong-young(HY) and Ja-young(JY). The analytical results on organic compounds in color potatoes were shown as follow, The contents of CQA and Anthocyanin of JY variety were shown to be higher than HY, while CQA and Anthocyanin were appeared to be highest in peel of JY. Overall, JY had higher amount of physicochemical properties than HY. The results of this study reveal the quantitative analysis of functional compounds seperated from various kind of potatoes, which will enable the acquisition of new bioactive candidates and the establishment of new profit generation models for farmers.
Recently we have reported that various hydroxystilbenes show strong inhibition of human P450 1 activity. A series of synthetic trans-stilbene derivatives were prepared and their inhibitory potentials were evaluated with the bacterial membrane of recombinant human P450 1A1, 1A2 or 1B1 coexpressed with human NADPH-P450 reductase to find new candidates for cancer chemoprevention, Of the compounds tested. SY-021 (3.5-dimethoxyphenyl vinyl thiophene) exhibited a potent inhibition of human P450 181 with an IC$_{50}$ value of 2 nM. SY-021 also showed the inhibitrion of P450 1A1 with IC$_{50}$ value of 61 nM and P450 1A2 with IC$_{50}$ value of 11 nM. SY-021 showed 31-fold selectivity for P450 1B1 over P450 1A1 and 6-fold selectivity for P450 1B1 over 1A2. We have further investigated the inhibition kinetics of P450 1A1. 1A2 and 1B1 by SY-021. The modes of inhibition by SY-021were non-compeitive for all three P450 1 enzymes. Effect of preincubation with NADPH on inhibition of P450 1B1 by SY-021 was determined. These results suggest that SY-021 is one of the mostj potent inhibitor of human P450 1 enzymes and may be considered as a good candidate for a cancer chemopreventive agent in human

Three mineral phosphate solubilizing (MPS) bacteria where isolated from rhizosphere soil samples of common bean and weed plants. 16S rDNA analysis indicated that the isolate P2 and P3 are closely related to Pantoea dispersa while isolate P4 is closely related to Pantoea terrae. Isolates P2 and P3 recorded $381.60{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ and $356.27{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ of tricalcium phosphate (TCP) solubilization respectively on 3 days incubation. Isolate P4 recorded the TCP solubilization of $215.85{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ and the pH was dropped to 4.44 on 24 h incubation. Further incubation of P4 sharply decreased the available phosphorous to $28.94{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ and pH level was raised to 6.32. Gamma radiation induced mutagenesis was carried out at $LD_{99}$ dose of the wild type strains. The total of 14 mutant clones with enhanced MPS activity and 4 clones with decreased activity were selected based on solubilization index (SI) and phosphate solubilization assay. Mutant P2-M1 recorded the highest P-solubilizing potential among any other wild or mutant clones by releasing $504.21{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ of phosphorous i.e. 35% higher than its wild type by the end of day 5. A comparative evaluation of TCP solubilization by wild type isolates of Pantoea and their mutants, led to select three MPS mutant clones such as P2-M1, P3-M2 and P3-M4 with a potential to release >$471.67{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ of phosphorous from TCP. These over expressing mutant clones are considered as suitable candidates for biofertilization.
Interleukin-13 (IL-13) has been proposed as a therapeutic target for bronchial asthma as it plays crucial roles in the pathogenesis of the disease. We developed an in vitro test system measuring transcriptional downregulatory activities on IL-13 as a primary screening method to select drug candidates from natural products. The promoter region of IL-13 (-2,048 to +1) was cloned into the upstream of a luciferase gene in the plasmid pGL4.14 containing the hygromycin resistance gene as a selection marker, generating pGL4.14-IL-13. The EL-4 thymoma and RBL-2H3 mast cells transiently expressing this plasmid highly produced the luciferase activities by responding to PI (PMA and ionomycin) stimulation up to 8-fold and 13-fold compared with the control, respectively, whereas cyclosporin A, a well-known antiasthmatic agent, significantly downregulated the activities. The BF1 clone of RBL-2H3 cells constitutively expressing pGL4.14-IL-13 was established by selecting surviving cells under a constant lethal dose of hygromycin treatment. The feasibility of this system was evaluated by measuring the downregulatory activities of 354 natural products on the IL-13 promoter using the BF1 clone. An extract from Morus bombycis (named TBRC 156) significantly inhibited PI-induced luciferase activities and IL-13 mRNA expression, but not the protein expression. Fisetin (named TBRC 353) inhibited not only PI-induced luciferase activities and mRNA expression, but also the IL-13 protein secretion, whereas myricetin (named TBRC 354) could not suppress the IL-13 expression at all. Our data indicated that this in vitro test system is able to discriminate the effects on IL-13 expression, and furthermore, that it might be suitable as a simple and time-saving primary screening system to select antiasthmatic agents by measuring transcriptional activities of the IL-13 promoter.

High power, short wavelength red laser diodes (LDs) have attracted significant interests in a variety of fields due to their advantages in terms of reliability, compactness and cost. The higher brightness for human eyes is required, the shorter wavelength like 630 nm is necessary with higher output power. In this respect, LDs are promising as alternative candidates of gas or dye lasers for such applications due to their small size, high optical/electrical power conversion efficiency, robustness and so on. The crystalline quality of GaInP-AlGaInP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) and AlInP cladding layers is a crucial part in the device performance of GaInP red LDs. Here, we first investigated the effect of Si diffusion on the optical properties of GaInP-AlGaInP MQWs grown with different growth temperatures. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) measurements revealed that both the Mg and Si diffusion into MQW active region was significant. To reduce such diffusion, we employed undoped Mg and Si diffusion barrier and could improve the properties.Without both Mg and Si diffusion barriers, no lasing emission was observed. However, lasing emission was observed clearly for the red LDs with both Mg and Si diffusion barriers. We then investigated the temperature dependent optical properties of MQW layers grown with different well thicknesses (6, 8 and 10 nm). When the well thickness was 10 nm, the better crystalline quality was obtained. However, the observed LD performances were similar, probably due to the defects and impurities in the AlGaInP layer. Further investigation with the detailed analyses will be presented later.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) act as regulators of gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of target genes. They perform important biological functions in the various species. Among many miRNAs, miR-21-3p is known to serve vital functions in development and apoptosis in olive flounder. Using genomic and bioinformatic tools, evolutionary conservation of miR-21-3p was examined in various species, and expression pattern was analyzed in olive flounder. Conserved sequences (5'-CAGUCG-3') in numerous species were detected through the stem-loop structure of miR-21-3p. Thus, we analyzed target genes of miR-21-3p. Among them, 3' UTR region of PPIL2 gene indicated the highest binding affinity with miR-21-3p based on the minimum free energy value. The PPIL2 gene showed high expression levels in testis tissue of the olive flounder, whereas miR-21-3p showed rather ubiquitous expression patterns except in testis tissue, indicating that miR-21-3p seems to control the PPIL2 gene expression in a complementary repression manner in various tissues of olive flounder. Taken together, this current study contributes to infer the target gene candidates for the miR-21-3p using bioinformatics tools. Furthermore, our data offers important information on the relationship between miR-21-3p and target gene for further functional study.
