Analysis of Microbiological Hazards From Working Gloves Used in the Processing of Shucked Pacific Oyster Crassostrea gigas (참굴(Crassostrea gigas) 탈각 공정에서 작업자 장갑에 의해 발생하는 미생물학적 위해요소 분석)

  • This study assessed the microbiological hazards of gloves worn during the shell shucking process of the oyster Crassostrea gigas, and we suggest an in situ method for minimizing microbial contamination. The study consisted of two groups, one in which the working gloves were periodically replaced (PRG) with new gloves, and another in which the gloves were not replaced (NRG). In the PRG group, gloves were replaced every 2 h during 8 h of processing. Food pathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli, Salmonella species, and Listeria monocytogenes were not found in any samples, including gloves and shucked oysters. However, Staphylococcus aureus (SA) was detected in some samples, and the contamination levels were correlated with the working time and the regular replacement of gloves. SA was not detected on gloves or oysters of the PRG group. However, it was detected in the range of <$15CFU/15cm^2$ to $2.9{\times}10^2CFU/15cm^2$ on gloves after 6 h of continuous work, and from <$15CFU/15cm^2$ to $2.23{\times}10^2CFU/15cm^2$ on oysters after 8 h. These results indicate that the SA contamination in shucked oysters originated from the working gloves, and that replacement of working gloves every 2-4 h will minimize SA contamination in oyster products.

Vinegar Produced from Chrysanthemum zawadskii and Pearl Shell (구절초진주식초)

  • With the addition of ethanol to wax gourd extract and by acetic fermentation, 5.0% acidity vinegar was produced. After putting 10% extract(10% concentration) of Chrysanthemum zawadskii in this, and by dissolving shell, Chrysanthemum zawadskii-pearl vinegar was produced. When a 1% of ark shell, oyster shell, or ear shell was added to wax gourd vinegar, 95.6~98.4% of the shell dissolved, and when a 2% content of shell was added, 97.2~98.4% was dissolved. The acidity of vinegar which dissolved 1% shell was pH 3.0~3.17, and the acidity of vinegar which dissolved 2% shell was pH 1.11~ 1.20. The pH values of vinegar which dissolved 1%, and 2% shell contents were 4.54~4.55, and 4.86~4.95, respectively. When 1% shell was dissolved, the acidity was higher than that of commercial vinegar, with a high pH value and low level of free acid. This shows that when Chrysanthemum zawadskii 1% is added during acetic acid fermentation, the inhibition was 44.4%, and 22.2% respectively. In this regard, Chrysanthemum zawadskii should be added after the fermentation of acetic acid. The calcium content of 1% shell vinegar is 0.4%, and that of 2% vinegar is 0.78%. Non-heated native wax gourd shows an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate of 21.7%, an antioxidant activity of 5.23%, and a tyrosinase inhibition rate of 5.5%. In the case of heated-extracted wax gourd, the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate was 16.1%, superoxide dismutase activity was 20.5%, antioxidant activity was 23.2%, and the tyrosinase inhibition rate was 7.1%. Also, in the case of Chrysanthemum zawadskii, the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate was 28.8%, the xanthine oxidase inhibition rate was 28.2%, the superoxide dismutase activity was 14.5%, the antioxidant activity was 3.2%, and the tyrosinase inhibition rate was 9.2% Data also revealed that when a 10% sample of the heated-wax gourd extract was added to A549 human lung cancer epithelial cells of, the number of cancer cells declined by 80% in 72 hours, When a 10% native extract was added, the number of cells declined by, 74% in 48 hours, and when a heated-extract of Chrysanthemum zawadskii was added, 100% of the cells died after 72 hours.

  • 굴폐각은 굴양식 후 남는 것으로 남해안에서 주로 집중적으로 발생하는데 연간 28만톤의 발생량 중 상당양은 폐기물로 계속 누적되고 혹은 불법매립되어 환경오염 문제까지 발생시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 산업폐기물로 분류되는 굴패각을 지반공학 분야에서 활용하기 위한 대안으로 해성점토와 혼합하여 매립재료로써의 적용성을 평가하기 위하여 대형 압밀기를 이용하여 실험을 실시하고 이를 토대로 기초자료를 획득하고자 하였다. 원형의 굴패각을 파쇄하여 입도별로 분류하고 이중 사질토 입경 크기의 재료에 대한 기본 물성치를 평가하고 지반 재료로써의 적용성를 분석하였다. 해성점토 내의 굴패각입자의 혼합비를 변화시켜 만들어진 혼합토에 대한 압밀 실험 결과 굴패각의 혼합율이 증가할수록 체적변화율이 작게 되고, 침하 속도는 빠르게 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 이는 압밀응력의 일부를 굴패각 입자의 골격구조가 부담함으로써 실제 점토부분에 작용하는 압밀응력은 굴패각 혼합율이 증가할수록 작아지는 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Trace Metal Contents in Food by Neutron Activation Analysis (방사화 분석법에 의한 식품 중 미량금속(Mg, Zn, Mn, Mo and Se)에 관한 연구)

  • In order to investigate the trace metals in Korean foods, the contents of Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Molybdenum and Selenium are studied in this paper. As show in the Table 1; a total of 250 samples of 25 species were analyzed by neutron activation analysis. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The overall ranges and mean (mg/100 g) were; Mg, 12.212∼151.346(55.164); Zn, 0.045∼38.180 (2.473); Mn, 0.003∼0.796 (0.225);Mo, ND∼0.035 (0.007); Se, ND∼0.069 (0.016). 2. The levels of all metals except Mo in shell fishes were high and the level of Mo in spices was higher than that in other foods. 3. The levels of Zn and Mo in oyster were higher than another spcies.

A fundermental study on neutralization and Fe removal in laboratory wastewater using wastes (폐기물을 이용한 실험실폐수의 중화 및 철제거에 관한 기초연구)

  • In point of recycling wastes, batch test was conducted to examine the neutralization and Fe removal from laboratory wastewater using wastes. Oyster shell and slag had a buffer capacity to neutralize an acidic wastewater but tire rubber didn't. With increasing reaction time, dosage and agitation speed, Fe was well removed by wastes. As a result on the experiments of Freundlich isotherm, the adsorption intensities(1/n) were 0.32∼0.46 and the adsorption capacities(k) were 4.3∼4.6 for removing Fe from laboratory wastewater by wastes. In view of these results, it was estimated that wastes containing the similar compositions as these could utilize the neutralization and adsorption of heavy metals in laboratory wastewater.

  • Environmental Double Pile method was presented as a device to improve low permeable contaminated soil. EDP is one of the latest technology in a concept of one step process that is applied to low permeable contaminated ground to reutilize the site by enhancing drainage, contaminated remediation, bearing capacity of piles. In order to evaluate on-site applicability of this technology, qualities of EDP's drainage, strength and remediation were assessed through a series of experiments; EDP was verified to achieve remediation and improvement of soft ground.

  • 실내시험 및 모형시험에 의하면 굴패각은 모래의 대체재료로써 활용가능한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 굴패각 모래 혼합시료에 대한 대형전단시험 결과와 굴패각 모래 다짐말뚝에 대한 현장재하시험 결과를 제시하였다. 굴패각 모래 혼합시료는 혼합율 30%까지는 혼합율이 증가할수록 전단강도가 증가하였으며 그 이상의 혼합율에서는 수렴하는 경향을 나타내었다. 순수모래다짐말뚝과 굴패각-모래 다짐말뚝에 대한 재하시험 결과로부터 두 말뚝간의 허용지지력에는 거의 차이가 없음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 신재생에너지 중의 하나에서 태양광를 이용한 공기조화시스템을 제작하기 위한 것이다. 또한 현재 쓰이고 있는 않는 굴껍질을 흡착제로 사용한다. 이 시스템은 태양광 에너지를 사용하기 때문에 1차 에너지의 소모가 없게 된다. 결과적으로 본 연구에서 제안하는 시스템은 이산화탄소의 배출이 없는 친환경적 시스템이라고 할 수 있다. 즉, 구동동력을 신재생에너지인 태양광을 이용하고, 폐자원인 굴껍질을 흡착제로 사용하는 신 개념의 공기조화시스템을 제안한다. 또한, 이 시스템의 흡착특성을 나타내고, 흡착능력이 평가되어진다.

A Study on the Characteristics of Ca(OH)2 According to the Calcination Conditions of Oyster Shells and Its Application for Exterior Water Paints (굴 패각의 소성 조건에 따른 소석회의 특성과 외부용 수성 도료 적용 연구)

  • CaO was prepared by calcining for oyster shells using a microwave kiln. It was analyzed to Ca(OH)2 synthed on hydration reaction from prepared CaO. The synthesized Ca(OH)2 was formulated as an external water paint. Oyster shells (325 mesh, 43 ㎛) were decarbonized for (a) 950 ℃/1 hr and (b) 1,150 ℃/1 hr to prepare CaO. In the calcination condition of (a), CaO was 56.7 wt%, and in the calcination condition of (b), CaO was 100 wt%. To compare CaO by calcination of oyster shells with that of limestone, limestone (25~30 mm) was decarbonized at 950 ℃/1 hr to prepare CaO, and as a result of the analysis(XRD), it was analyzed as CaO 100 wt%. CaO was prepared under the calcining conditions of oyster shells (b) 1,150 ℃/1 hr, and Ca(OH)2 was synthesized through hydration. Hydration conditions of the prepared CaO were (a) CaO : H2O(100 g : 200 g) and (b) CaO : H2O(100 g : 400 g). As a result of the hydration reaction, it was confirmed as low reactivity. 100 wt% of Ca(OH)2 was synthesized. In particular, Ca(OH)2 synthesized under the hydration condition of (a) was analyzed in a plate shape. An external water paint was formulated with Ca(OH)2 synthesized from oyster shells as the main component. When 15 items of the external water paint standard specification (KS M 6010) were analyzed, it was confirmed that all other criteria were satisfied except for freezing stability.

Residual Effects of Fly Ash, Gypsum, and Shell on Growth and Qualities of Chinese Cabbage in Acidic Soils (산성토양에서 배추 생육과 품질에 대한 석탄회, 석고, 패각의 시용 잔효)

  • In order to evaluate the residual effects of bituminous coal fly ash, gypsum, oyster shell as soil amendments, Chinese cabbage was cultivated on acidic sandy loam soils with low boron content. The soils were amended in the upper 15cm with amendments in previous year and the growth and qualities of plants were analyzed. Amendments treated one year before were, in metric tons per hectare, i) none(Check) ; ii) 80 fly ash(FA) ; iii) 4 shell(SH) ; iv) 56 fly ash + 24 gypsum (FG) ; v) 40 fly ash + 24 gypsum + 0.8 shell(FGS). Yield response in fresh weight of Chinese cabbage was in order of 834% for FGS > 780% for FG > 755% FA > 193% for SH plants. Reducing sugar, vitamin-C, and total nitrogen contents of leaves depending on treatments showed the same tendencies as that in yields, whereas crude fibre opposite to them. In particular, FA, FG, and FGS plants showed normal growth without both boron deficiency symptoms which appeared in Check and SH plants and possibilities of accumulation of heavy metals. In any soils treated with the above amendments, however, magnesium was insufficient.
