Background: Nephrotoxicity is the major side effect in cisplatin chemotherapy. Previously, we reported that the ginsenosides Rk3 and Rh4 reduced cisplatin toxicity on porcine renal proximal epithelial tubular cells (LLC-PK1). Here, we aimed to evaluate the protective effect of ginsenosides Rk3 and Rh4 on kidney function and elucidate their antioxidant effect using in vitro and in vivo models of cisplatin-induced acute renal failure. Methods: An enriched mixture of ginsenosides Rk3 and Rh4 (KG-KH; 49.3% and 43.1%, respectively) was purified from sun ginseng (heat processed Panax ginseng). Cytotoxicity was induced by treatment of $20{\mu}M$ cisplatin to LLC-PK1 cells and rat model of acute renal failure was generated by single intraperitoneal injection of 5 mg/kg cisplatin. Protective effects were assessed by determining cell viability, reactive oxygen species generation, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, antioxidant enzyme activity, and histopathological examination. Results: The in vitro assay demonstrated that KG-KH ($50{\mu}g/mL$) significantly increased cell viability (4.6-fold), superoxide dismutase activity (2.8-fold), and glutathione reductase activity (1.5-fold), but reduced reactive oxygen species generation (56%) compared to cisplatin control cells. KG-KH (6 mg/kg, per os) also significantly inhibited renal edema (87% kidney index) and dysfunction (71.4% blood urea nitrogen, 67.4% creatinine) compared to cisplatin control rats. Of note, KG-KH significantly recovered the kidney levels of catalase (1.2-fold) and superoxide dismutase (1.5-fold). Conclusion: Considering the oxidative injury as an early trigger of cisplatin nephrotoxicity, our findings suggest that ginsenosides Rk3 and Rh4 protect the kidney from cisplatin-induced oxidative injury and help to recover renal function by restoring intrinsic antioxidant defenses.

Ozonic use of sterilization and heat treatment of raw material to extend the conservation period of food recently is increased by hard vegetable or microorganism sterilization purpose of fruit. If ozone can create as is easy comparatively because do air or oxygen by raw material and schedule period passes, there is advantage that do not leave the second contaminant because being gotten restored by oxygen. Also, because the effect is big to decolorization beside disinfection effect about microorganism, deodorization, disjointing of venomousness hazardous substance, food save, Indoor air purge, good hand processing, hydrospace agricultural chemicals processing etc. the use extent is wide. This research ran parallel a sterilization experiment of E.coli colitis germs by ozone that manufacture ozonizer that use doped diamond maund electrode (BDD) by boron and searched special quality electrochemistry enemy of the ozonizer and is created. After cultivate E.coli colitis germs during 37C 1 day is LB ship, after do ozonation, was sterilized more than 90% by ozone as result that examine disinfection effect by substance microscope and could confirm excellency of diamond electrode.
It has been suggested that increased number and activity of phagocytes in periodontitis lesion results in a high degree of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide anion, hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide and peroxynitrite. There are few reports on the relationship between ROS and MMPs expressions in gingival fibroblast. We studied to elucidate whether and how ROS, especially nitric oxide affects the MMP expression. Human gingival fibroblasts and HTl080 cells (human fibrosarcoma sell line as reference) were grown in DMEM supplemented with 10 mM HEPES, 50 mg/L gentamicin, and 10% heat inactivated fetal bovine serum with addition of various reactive oxygen species (ROS). Culture media conditioned by cells were examined by gelatin zymography. HT1080 cells expressed proMMP-2 and proMMP-9, but human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) produced only proMMP-2. Hydrogen peroxide upregulated MMP-9 expression in HT1080 cells, whereas in human gingival fibroblast SNP treatment showed marked increase in MMP-2 level compared to other ROS. These results suggest that the effects of ROS on MMPs expressions are cell-type specific. RT-PCR for MMP-2 and TIMP-2 m-RNA were performed using total RNA from cultured cells under the influence various kinase inhibitors. In HT1080 cells, treatment with FPTI III (Ras processing inhibitor) and LY294002 (PI3-kinase inhibitor) resulted in inhibition of MMP-2 and MMP-9 expressions, suggesting that Ras/P13-kinase pathway is important for MMPs expression in HT1080 cells. In gingival fibroblasts, treatment with FPTI III and PDTC (NF-kB inhibitor) showed marked decrease in MMP-2 regardless of the of SNP , suggesting that Ras/NF-kB could be the key pathway for NO-induced MMP-2 expression in gingival fibroblasts. This study showed that ROS, especially nitric oxide, could be the critical mediator of periodontal disease progression through control of MMP-2 expression in gingival fibroblasts possibly via Ras/NF-kB pathway.
Oxidative stress leads to damage in all components of the cell, including proteins, lipids, and DNA due to imbalance between reactive oxygen species production and cellular detoxification. Phytochemicals are well-known to contain antioxidants, and their physiological role has been intensively studied. The fruit of Cornus officianalis has been used in oriental medicine and has been reported to have many functions. In this study, four different extraction techniques were applied to extract functional components from the fruit of Cornus officianalis, and the content of loganin, which is an antioxidant having DPPH radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity and reducing power, was analyzed in each extract. Extraction techniques employed in this study were heat extraction by water, 70% ethanol extraction, enzyme treatment, and combination of enzyme treatment and heat extraction by water. All extracts contained 11.8-18.0 mg/g loganin and showed antioxidation function assayed by measuring DPPH radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity and reducing power. Among them, heat extraction was the most effective technique, showing a maximum amount of loganin (18.0 mg/g) and antioxidative activity at 100 mg/ml concentration. Each extract showed very low cytotoxicity up to at 500 mg/ml but 10-20% cytotoxicity at 1,000 mg/ml by in vitro MTT assay.
The conduit fer superconducting cable is welded and plastically deformed during the jacketing process to make the CICC (Cable-in-Conduit-Conductors) fer a fusion magnet. The jacketing process of KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) conductors is composed of several sequential steps such as rounding, welding, sizing, and square-rolling. Since the welded zone in Incoloy 908 conduit is brittle and easy to have flaws, there may be a possibility of stress corrosion cracking during the heat treatment of coil when both the induced tensile residual stress and the concentration of oxygen in the furnace are sufficiently high. The steps of the jacketing process were simulated using the finite element method of the commercial ABAQUS code, and the stress distribution in the conduit in each step was calculated, respectively. Furthermore, the variations of residual welding stresses through the steps of the jacketing process were calculated and analyzed to anticipate the possibility of the stress corrosion cracking in the conduit. The concentrated high tensile residual welding stresses along the welding bead decrease by the plastic deformation of the following sizing step. The distribution in residual stresses in the conductor for magnet coil is mainly governed by the last step of square-rolling.

The possibility of chemical precipitation for recycled ammonium paratungstate (APT) was studied. WO3 particles were synthesized by chemical precipitation method using a 1:2 weight ratio of APT:DI-water. At the 500℃ sintering temperature, the X-ray diffraction results showed that APT completely decomposed to WO3. For the granulated powder WC-Co, vacuum heat treatment at proper temperatures increases tap density and flow-ability. Hardness of the WC-Co thermal spray coating layer was measured in the range HV 831~1266. Spray conditions for the best characteristic values were an oxygen flow rate=1500 scfh, a fuel flow rate = 5.25gph and a gun distance = 320mm.
The ultrafine titanium carbonitride particles ($TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$) below 100nm in mean size were successfully synthesized by Mg-thermal reduction process. The nanostructured sub-stoichiometric titanium carbide ($TiC_{0.7}$) particles were produced by the magnesium reduction at 1123K of gaseous $TiC_{l4}+xC_2Cl_4$ and the heat treatments in vacuum were performed for five hours to remove residual magnesium and magnesium chloride mixed with $TiC_{0.7}$. And final $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ phase was obtained by nitrification under normal $N_2$ gas at 1373K for 2 hrs. The purity of produced $TiC_{0.7}N_{0.3}$ particles was above 99.3% and the oxygen contents below 0.2 wt%. We investigated in particular the effects of the temperatures in vacuum treatment on the particle refinement of final product.
The semiconducting bodies were prepared by doping the bariume titanate with $Sb_2O_3,Nb_2O_5$and by subsequent sintering in air. The sintered bodies were annealed between $1100^{\circ}C$ and $1250^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes to 2 hours in air. The resistivity was measured as a function of temperature from $20^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$. The anomalous effect in resistivity occurred all of the $Nb_2O_5$ and $Sb_2O_3$doped barium titanate specimens, which were sintered in air atmosphere, and the most effective PTC effect occurred through 1 hour of sintering time at $1350^{\circ}C$ and 30 minute of annealing time at $1200^{\circ}C$. The resistivity - temperature characteristics seem to be intimately related to oxygen adsorption at grain boundaries and also to the thickness of insulating layers formed at grain boundaries during heat treatment.

We report a successful fabrication of high-quality $SmBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-{\delta}}$ (SmBCO) thin films on $LaAlO_3$(LAO)(100) single crystalline substrates by a modified TFA-MOD method. After the pyrolysis heat treatment of spin-coated films up to $400^{\circ}C$, SmBCO films were fired at various temperatures ranging from 810 to $850^{\circ}C$ in a reduced oxygen atmosphere (10 ppm $O_2$ in Ar). Optimally processed SmBCO films exhibited the zero-resistance temperature ($T_{c,zero}$) of 90.2 K and the critical current density ($J_c$) of $0.8\;MA/cm^2$ at 77K in self-field. Compared with the $J_c$ values (normally, > $2\;MA/cm^2$ at 77 K) of MOD-TFA processed YBCO films, rather depressed $J_c$ values in SmBCO films are most probably attributed to the existence of ${\alpha}$-axis oriented grains.
Highly stable $O_2$-evolving cells and thylakoid membranes have been obtained from the cyanobacterium, Synechococcus PCC7002, by immobilization with polyvinylalcohol(PVA). The absorption peak showed the blue-shift of about 3 nm after immobilization of intact cells and thylakoid membranes as well as isolation of thylakoid membranes. Photosynthetic electron transport activities, especially PS II activity showed greater stability in the PVA-immobilized cells and thylakoid membranes when stored at $4^{\circ}C$ than in those at $25^{\circ}C$. When the cells were threated at higher temperature, the level of Fo and Fv increased. After imobilization, however, Fo showed no change. This suggests that the immobilization can protect against the damages of PS II complex, especially a water-spiliting system, by heat treatment.
