  • Effect of CO$_2$ concentration on reduction reactivity of oxygen carrier particles for chemical-looping combustor were investigated. Four particles, NiO/bentonite, OCN601-650, OCN702-1100, OCN702-1250, were used as oxygen carrier particles and two kinds of gases (CH$_4$, 5%, N$_2$ balance and CH$_4$ 5%, CO$_2$ balance) were used as reactants for reduction. For all oxygen carrier particles, higher maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, and oxygen transfer rate were achieved when we used N$_2$ balance gas. OCN601-650 particle showed higher oxygen transfer rate for all gases than other particles, and therefore we selected OCN601-650 particle as the best candidate. For all particles, lower carbon depositions were observed when we used CO$_2$ balance gas.

  • This paper is the third of several companion papers which compare the method of Air-Fuel ratio determination. In the previous works, Eltinge chart was expanded to arbitrary fuel composition as a reference exhaust composition. The compensation of unburned hydrocarbon in Eltinge chart and comparison of Spindt and Eltinge method were also discussed. In addition to Eltinge and Spindt's one, however, there are many methods which calculate Air-Fuel ratio from exhaust emission. Among these methods, carbon balance and oxygen balance are widely used in practice. In some applications, linear formula from statistical method is being used in the field due to its simplicity and convenience. In this paper, these various methods are evaluated and compared with Eltinge results and new linear formula is proposed for the gasoline fuel. The results show that the corrected carbon balance equation has excellent agreement with Eltinge and Spindt's one. On the other hands, the oxygen-balanced formula has a limitation according to the mixture state and AFR. For gasoline fuel, newly proposed linear equation has good compatibility with Eltinge and Spindt up to AFR 17.

  • Purpose: This randomized study was done to compare the effects of a 6 month Tai Chi exercise and a self-help program on balance, flexibility and muscle strength in women with osteoarthritis (OA). Method: In this experimental study, 82 women with OA recruited from outpatient clinics or community health centers were randomly assigned either to a Tai Chi group or a self-help group. Thirty women (mean age = 62 years) in the Tai Chi group and 39 (mean age = 59 years) in the self-help group completed posttest measures (balance, flexibility, oxygen consumption, abdominal muscle strength, back muscle strength, and grip strength) at 6 months. Results: After the 6 month, Tai Chi participants had significantly greater balance (mean difference = 2.9 vs. 0.9 for the self-help), grip strength (mean difference = 4.6 vs. 0.9 for the self-help), and back muscle strength (mean difference = 4.1 vs. -0.3 for the self-help). However, flexibility, oxygen consumption, and abdominal muscle strength were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion: Tai Chi increased balance, grip strength and back muscle strength in older women with osteoarthritis compared to the self-help program. Whether these changes improve physical functioning and fall prevention requires further study.

축산유역 강우유출수 처리를 위한 간헐 포기식 인공습지에서 산소수지분석 (Oxygen Mass Balance Analysis in an Intermittently Aerated Wetland Receiving Stormwater from Livestock Farms)

  • 축산지역 강우유출수 처리를 위한 간헐 포기식 인공습지에서 산소공급 및 소비량을 산출하여 낮과 밤 동안의 산소수지(oxygen balance)를 분석하였다. 조류의 광합성 활동이 활발한 얕은 습지에서 주간에는 내부 생산되는 산소가 지배적이었다. 또한 조류에 의한 내호흡이 가장 큰 소비원인 것으로 분석되었으며 질산화와 탈질에 의한 소비량은 각각 전체의 약 5.35%와 6.43%인 것으로 분석되었다. 조류에 의한 과도한 양의 산소소비는 포기조작에 의한 침전조류의 재부상에 의해 초래된 것으로 후속 공정에도 지속적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 더욱이 주간에 조류의 광합성 활동에 의해 생산된 풍부한 산소량은 습지에서 발생하는 산소요구량을 충족시키기에 충분한 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 주간에 실시되는 인위적인 포기활동은 불필요한 조작으로 판명되었다. 이와 반면에 광합성 활동이 중단되는 야간에는 조류의 내호흡작용으로 습지내부의 산소농도가 크게 저하하였으며 이는 습지에서 탈질반응을 촉진하는 것으로 추정된다. 따라서 인위적인 포기를 중단해도 유기물질 제거나 질소제거에 큰 영향을 미치지 않을 것으로 판단되며, 야간에 혐기성 상태의 지속으로 악취와 같은 문제가 발생될 수 있으므로 간헐적인 모드로 운전하는 것이 타당할 것으로 판단된다.

  • A defect model for UO$_2$ fuel containing soluble fission products was devised based on the defect structure of pure and doped uranias. Using the equilibrium between fuel solid-solution and fission-products and the material balance within the fuel, a tracing method to get the stoichiometry change of urania fuel with burnup was made. This tracing method was applied to high burnup urania fuel and DUPIC fuel. The oxygen potential of urania fuel turned out to increase slightly with burnup. The stoichiometry change was calculated to be negligible due to the buffering role f Mo. The oxygen potential of DUPIC fuel out to be sensitive to the initial chemical state of Mo in the fuel.

Optimal oxygen saturation in premature infants

  • There is a delicate balance between too little and too much supplemental oxygen exposure in premature infants. Since underuse and overuse of supplemental oxygen can harm premature infants, oxygen saturation levels must be monitored and kept at less than 95% to prevent reactive oxygen species-related diseases, such as retinopathy of prematurity and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. At the same time, desaturation below 80 to 85% must be avoided to prevent adverse consequences, such as cerebral palsy. It is still unclear what range of oxygen saturation is appropriate for premature infants; however, until the results of further studies are available, a reasonable target for pulse oxygen saturation ($SpO_2$) is 90 to 93% with an intermittent review of the correlation between $SpO_2$ and the partial pressure of arterial oxygen tension ($PaO_2$). Because optimal oxygenation depends on individuals at the bedside making ongoing adjustments, each unit must define an optimal target range and set alarm limits according to their own equipment or conditions. All staff must be aware of these values and adjust the concentration of supplemental oxygen frequently.

  • 통기발효에서 중요한 통기 및 진탕효과를 측정함에 있어 공기로부터 물속으로 용존해 가는 산소의 전달속도와, 용존된 산소가 미생물에 의해 흡수되는 속도를 산출하였다. 항생물질발효에서 통기효과는 현저하였으며, 배양시간에 따른 산소흡수 속도와 비산소흡수 속도가 변화하는 것을 알았다. 이러한 변화는 대사이차 산물인 항생물질생합성의 생화학적인 전환에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다.

  • Fermentation parameters were estimated by use of a vent gas analyzer coupled to a computer data acquisition system in cultivation of Phellinus linteus WI-001, pro-ducer of polysaccharides known to have potent anticancer activities. Oxygen uptake rate(OUR), a critical indicator of the cells activities, was calculated by applying oxygen mass balance. In addition, by dividing the oxygen uptake rate hy the total oxygen consumed, on-line estimation of the cells specific growth rate was successfully done. It was also possible to estimate cell concentration directly bt use of oxygen-cell yield($Y_{x/o}$ ) which was obtained based on a correlation between cell growth and total oxygen consumed.

CZ 방법에 의해 성장된 실리콘에서 산소 석출물의 성장/감소에 관한 모델 및 해석 (Modeling and Analysis for the Growth/Dissolution of Oxygen Precipitation in CZ-grown Silicon)

  • 본 논문에서는 CZ 방법으로 성장된 실리콘에서 임의의 열처리 과정 또는 VLSI 공정중에 발생하는 산소석출물(oxygen precipitates)의 성장 및 감소에 대한 모델을 유도하고 수치해석법으로 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 모델에 대한 타당성을 검증하였다. 확산제한 성장법칙(diffusion-limited growth law)과 DBET(detailed balance equilibrium theory)를 이용하여 산소 석출물의 성장률과 감소율을 유도하고 이를 CREs(chemical rate equations)와 PFE (Fokker-Planck equation)이 결합된 식에 적용하여 수치해석법으로 풀었다. 또한 어닐링 분위기에 따라 표면에서 일어나는 현상을 달리 고려해야 하는데, 특히 O₂가스 분위기에서는 산화막이 성장되는 조건을 고려해야 하므로 산화막 성장 모델과 산소 용해도 증가등의 영향을 고려하였다. 이 방법으로 기존의 결과보다 더 정확하게 깊이에 따른 산소 농도의 분포와 산소 석출물의 밀도분포 함수를 계산할 수 있었다.
