The development of high performance transparent electrode with flexibility have been required for flexible electronics. Here, we demonstrate the silver nanowire and reduced graphene oxide hybrid transparent electrode for replacing brittle indium-tin-oxide electrode by spray coating technique and plasma reduction. The spray coating system is applied to deposit silver nanowire and over coated graphene oxide films and it has a great potential to scale-up. The resistance of silver nanowire transparent electrode is reduced by 10% and the surface roughness is decreased after graphene oxide coating. The over-coated graphene oxide is successfully reduced by $H_2$ plasma treatment and it is effective in increasing the environmental stability of electrode. The lifetime of silver nanowire and reduced graphene oxide hybrid electrode at $85^{\circ}C$ of Celsius degree of temperature and 85% of relative humidity has much increased.
A surface renewable pH electrode was prepared by utilizing composite electrode technique. Iridium oxide micro-fine particles was prepared by hydrolysis of $(NH_4)_2IrCl_6$ at elevated temperature. The iridium oxide particles were mixed with well-dispersed carbon black and then filtered. The mixture was suspended in DMF containing PVC as a binder. The mixture was precipitated rapidly by adding large amount of water. The precipitate was ground and pressure-molded to iridium oxide composite electrode material. The electrode showed linear response between pH 1-13 with 50 to 60 mV/pH slope. The electrode maintained the pH response without appreciable slope drift for 170 days if stored in deionized water. The electrode surface can be renewed reproducibly by simple grinding process whenever contaminated or deactivated.
We investigated the electronic structures of a poly sodium 4-styrensulfonate intercalated graphite oxide (PSSGO) electrode and a precursor graphite oxide (GO) electrode using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). Both electrodes were obtained from electrochemical cells. We found that in the C K-edge XAS spectra the ${\pi}^*$ state intensity originating from the sp2 hybridization of graphite decreases predominantly in the graphite oxide and PSSGO electrodes. This indicates that the negatively charged electrolyte ion (BF4-) is absorbed onto the electrodes and is transferred to the ${\pi}^*$ state of the both electrodes. The analysis of their F K-edge spectra reveals that more BF4- ions were found in the PSSGO electrode than in the graphite oxide electrode. This indicates that more electrolyte ions are absorbed in the PSSGO than in the graphite oxide electrode. We argue that this is the main reason why PSSGO cells have higher capacitance, higher energy density, and higher power density when compared to the graphite oxide cells. We also found that BF4- is the primary working ion that can be inserted into the interlayers of the PSSGO electrode.
The electrode potential characteristics of a YSZ based membrane metal oxide electrode have been studied in molten LiCL at $700^{\circ}C$ by the potentiometric method. The electrode exhibited a good potential response to log[$O^2$] and data reproducibility. The calibration plot (potential vs. log[$O^2$] was found to be linear, obeying the Nernst equation. The electrode potential showed a good reversibility corresponding to increase/decrease of the oxide ion present in the molten LiCl. The physical and chemical durability appeared to be sound after several repeated uses, resulting in reproducible results. However, "the proposed electrode" failed when metallic Li was present in the melt.
Thin film electrode consisting purely of porous anodic tin oxide with well-defined nano-channeled structure was fabricated for the first time and its electrochemical properties were investigated for application to an anode in a rechargeable lithium battery. To prepare the thin film electrode, first, a bi-layer of porous anodic tin oxides with well-defined nano-channels and discrete nano-channels with lots of lateral micro-cracks was prepared by pulsed and continuous anodization processes, respectively. Subsequent to the Cu coating on the layer, well-defined nano-channeled tin oxide was mechanically separated from the specimen, leading to an electrode comprised of porous tin oxide and a Cu current collector. The porous tin oxide nearly maintained its initial nano-structured character in spite of there being a series of fabrication steps. The resulting tin oxide film electrode reacted reversibly with lithium as an anode in a rechargeable lithium battery. Moreover, the tin oxide showed far more enhanced cycling stability than that of powders obtained from anodic tin oxides, strongly indicating that this thin film electrode is mechanically more stable against cycling-induced internal stress. In spite of the enhanced cycling stability, however, the reduction in the initial irreversible capacity and additional improvement of cycling stability are still needed to allow for practical use.

In the present work, a Ni-doped indium zinc oxide (NIZO) film and its multilayers with Ag layers were investigated as transparent conducting electrodes for liquid crystal display (LCD) applications, as a substitute for indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. By interposing the Ag layer between the NIZO layers, the loss of the optical transmittance occurred; however, the Ag layer brought enhancement of electrical sheet resistance to the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode. The twisted nematic cell based on the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode exhibited superior electro-optical characteristics than those based on single NIZO electrode and was competitive compared to those based on the conventional ITO electrode. An LCD-based NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode may allow new approaches to conventional ITO electrodes in display technology.
We have reported to make nanostructured cobalt oxide electrode that have large capacitance over than 400 F/g (specific capacitance) and good cycleability. But, it had serious demerits of low voltage range under 0.5 V and low power density. Therefore, we need to increase voltage range of cobalt oxide electrode. We report here on the electrochemical properties of sol-gel-derived nanoparticulate cobalt xerogel in 1M KOH solution and aqueous polymeric gel electrolyte. In solution electrolyte, cobalt oxide electrode had over 250 F/g capacitance consisted of EDLC and pseudocapacitance. In gel electrolyte, cobalt oxide electrode had around 100 F/g capacitance. This capacitance was only electric double layer capacitance of active surface area. In solution electrolyte, potassium ion as working ion reacted with both of layers easily. However, In gel electrolyte, reacted with only surface-active layer. Itis very hard to reach resistive layer. So, we have studied on pretreatment of electrode to contain working ions easily. We'll report more details.
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have attracted much attention because of their moderate light-to-electricity conversion efficiency, easy fabrication, and low cost. At present, platinum (Pt) is used as a counter electrode in DSSCs. However, it is found that Pt dissolves in iodide electrolyte solutions and creates chemical compound such as PtI4 and H2PtI6. Carbon based materials are one of candidates for a counter electrode of DSSCs. We prepare two types of graphite oxides by different chemical treatments; original graphite oxide, hydrazine treated graphite oxide. Each graphite oxide and magnesium nitrate dispersed in deionized water are prepared as solutions for electrophoretic deposition (EPD). Each graphite oxide electrode is deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate by EPD method. Structural and electrochemical properties of each electrode are investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively.
