  • An analysis of the effects of $CO_{2}$ on fundamental combustion characteristics was performed in Oxygen enriched condition by comparing the laminar burning velocities, flame structures, fuel oxidation paths. Fictitious $CO_{2}$ was introduced to discriminate the chemical reaction effects of $CO_{2}$ from the thermal effects. PREMIX code was utilized to evaluate the laminar burning velocities. OPPDIF code was utilized to investigate the flame structure and fuel oxidation path variation. The contributions of thermal effects on laminar burning velocities are dominant at lowly oxygen-enriched condition but those of chemical reaction effects become dominant at highly oxygen-enriched condition. Chemical reaction effects caused the additional flame temperature decrease besides thermal effects and oxygen-leakage increase in non-premixed flame. Specific fuel oxidation path and CO production path is enhanced in spite of overall decrement of fuel consumption rate by chemical reaction effects of$CO_{2}$.

  • In order to improve energy efficiency in the dilute trichloroethylene removal using the nonthermal plasma process, the barrier discharge treatment combined with manganese dioxide was experimentally studied. Reaction kinetics in this process was studied on the basis of final byproducts distribution. Decomposition efficiency was improved to about 99% at the specific energy 40J/L with passing through manganese dioxide. C=C $\pi$ bond cleavage in TCE gave DCAC (single bond, C-C) through oxidation reaction during the barrier discharge plasma treatment. Those DCAC were broken easily in the subsequent catalytic reaction due to the weak bonding energy about 3 ~ 4 eV compared with the double bonding energy in TCE molecules. Oxidation byproducts of DCAC and TCAA from TCE decomposition are generated from the barrier discharge plasma treatment and catalytic surface chemical reaction, respectively. Complete oxidation of TCE into $CO_X$ is required to about 400J/L.

  • A study of the pack cemcented SiC coating on graphite was performed and the process conditions were evaluated by means of experimental design. The content of Si, P2O5, B and Al2O3 reaction temperature, reaction time and acid treatment wast tested as the experimental variables. The results were analyzed and compared by the characteristic value of 10% weight loss by oxidation. The acid treatment exhibited the most effective anti-oxidation property and the optimum conditions were the powder composition of 20% Si, 3% B and 77% SiC, the reaction temperature of 1550$^{\circ}C$ for 7 hours with phosphoric acid treatment. The pack coating performed under this condition improved the 10% weight loss oxidation temperature by 514$^{\circ}C$ compared to the bare graphite.

  • The tropospheric ozone production mechanism for the gas phase additive oxidation reaction of hydroxyl radical (OH) with isoprene (2-methyl-1,3-butadiene) has been studied using cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) at total pressure of 50 Torr and 298 K. The applicability of CRDS was confirmed by monitoring the shorter (~4%) ringdown time in the presence of hydroxyl radical than the ring-down time without the photolysis of hydrogen peroxide. The reaction rate constant, $(9.8{\pm}0.1){\times}10^{-11}molecule^{-1}cm^3s^{-1}$, for the addition of OH to isoprene is in good agreement with previous studies. In the presence of $O_2$ and NO, hydroxyl radical cycling has been monitored and the simulation using the recommended elementary reaction rate constants as the basis to OH cycling curve gives reasonable fit to the data.

  • Nafion supported catalytic membranes were found to be active, stable and selective in th partial oxidation of propane to oxygenates with H2O2 under mild condition. Addition of Fe2+ in liquid phase enhances the reaction rate. Reaction proceeds according to a radical mechanism based on th electrophilic activation of propane on superacid sites and subsequent reaction of the activated paraffin with OH radicals. The use of a catalytic membrane, which allow separation of the intermediate products from the liquid phase containing the oxidant, was found to be effective to perform selective partial oxidation of propane with high yields to oxygenated products.

  • In this work, lipid oxidation and the kinetics of the oxidation reaction in fried file-fish meat were investigated when sun-dried file-fish was stored under the conditions of various water activities and temperature, 35, 45, 55 and $35/55^{\circ}C$. The storage stability and the development of browning by oxidative rancidity were also discussed. Monolayer coverage value of water content in dried file-fish was $8.03\%$ at $0.21\;a_w$Lipid oxidation at $35^{\circ}C$ was developed with increasing water activity but at $45^{\circ}C$and $55^{\circ}C$ it was rapidly progressed without clear differences between water activities except $0.44\;a_w$. The rate of reaction was more sensitive to storage temperature than to water activity. Browning in methanol-chloroform fraction was developed linearly by the progress of lipid oxidation which suggested that lipid oxidation was greatly influential to the development of browning in dried fish meat. In kinetical analysis the oxidation followed a zero order reaction mechanism as a function of carbonyl value. The activation energies obtained from the Arrhenius plot ranged 9.0 to 10.8 Kcal/mol and $Q_10$ values, 1.6-1.7. Shelf-lives at the storage of 35,45 and $55^{\circ}C$ ranged 58 days to 8 days. And in the fluctuating temperature storage at $35/55^{\circ}C$, shelf-lives were 17, 16, 15 and 13 days at 0.44, 0.52, 0.65 and $0.75\;a_w$, respectively. The shelf-lives for assessed from the accelerated shelf-life test were 125, 123, 120 and 106 days at 0.44, 0.52, 0.65 and $0.75\;a_w$, respectively, in the case of storage at $25^{\circ}C$.

  • Effects of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) concentration, temperature and pH on oxidation mechanism of corn starch were investigated. The rate of oxidation was dependent on the concentration of hypochlorite, pH and temperature of oxidation. The reaction was either first or second order depending on the concentration of NaOCl. At oxidant concentration of $0.75{\sim}3.0%$ active Cl/g starch, the reaction was first-order and it was second-order at $3.75{\sim}4.5%$ active Cl/g starch. The first-order rate constants were increased with increasing oxidant concentration. The rate of oxidation of starch was highest at pH 7 and decreased with increasing acidity or alkalinity of the medium. As the reaction temperature increased, the rate of oxidation was increased.
