  • As recent integration of wire and wireless networks and the convergence of telecommunications and broadcasting, uniform and standardized by the broadcasting operators of existing stations to provide 4A(Any-time, Any-where, Any-device, Any-contents) services for the next-generation of multimedia services research is being progressed. Demand for theses next-generation multimedia services to ensure video compression coding technology, as well as mobility, ability to operation a variety of devices, characteristics and performance of user network and the status and conditiion, user preferences and context-awareness based on the technology has an interest in technical studies. In this paper, the current internet environment, SVC(Scalable Video Coding) encoded by a mixture of multicast and overlay multicast transmission technology for broadcasting services by designing and efficient multimedia broadcasting system is proposed. In addition, ACK-Aow Optimization by overlay multicast scheme existing tree-based overlay multicast, and by comparing the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated.

  • Multicast is an efficient transport mechanism for community communications and MANET is recently regarded as a promising solution for support ubiquitous computing as an underlying network technology. However, it is hard to deploy multicast mechanism into MANET owing to scarce resources in wireless networks and unpredictable changes in network topology. Several multicast mechanisms have been proposed in the literature to overcome the limitations. Especially, overlay multicasting schemes present several advantages over network based multicasting schemes. Yet, the overlay multicasting schemes still introduce redundant data transmissions that waste network bandwidth and battery of relay nodes. As a result the performance of the network is degraded. To reduce the redundancy, we propose an efficient way to construct an overlay structure as a multicast data delivery tree that utilizes a branch node which belongs to the tree. By using network simulation, we show that the proposed scheme presents higher packet delivery ratio and lower transmission cost than previously proposed schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose an overlay transmission method of end-to-end host to solve decrease in transmission rate caused by congestion in the application using multicast. In this proposed method, we've selected an overlay end-to-end host (OEH) for overcast transmission for each node, and the OEH can transmit duplicative packets. When the loss rate is more than the overcast threshold, the receivers of node in congestion are dropping from current layers and the OEH of lower nodes can request overcast transmission to OEH of non-congestion nodes for receiveing packets. In simulation results, it was known that the proposed method improves transmission rates over those of existing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that can construct efficiently a P2P overlay multicast network composed of many heterogeneous peers in communication bandwidth, processing power and a storage size by selecting a peer in a distributed fashion using an ant-colony theory that is one of the computational intelligence methods. The proposed method considers not only the capacity of a peer but also the number of children peers supported by the peer and the hop distance between a multicast source and the peer when selecting a parent peer of a newly joining node. Thus, an P2P multicast overlay network is constructed efficiently in that the distances between a multicast source and peers are maintained small. In addition, the proposed method works in a distributed fashion in that peers use their local information to find a parent node. Thus, compared to a centralized method where a centralized server maintains and controls the overlay construction process, the proposed method scales well. Through simulations, we show that, by making a few high capacity peers support a lot of low capacity peers, the proposed method can maintain the size of overlay network small even there are a few thousands of peers in the network.

  • In the internet broadcast, efficient and scalable mechanism of multicast is needed for the communication between groups. Furthermore, Optimization of the multicast tree is required to improve the performance of overlay multicast. This optimization is well-known as NP-complete. If a node in the tree has limited out-degree, a user who wants to join the group has to find parent user who has already joined. In this paper, the users who want to join the group need to setup their level using delay test from source node. And then new users can find candidate parent nodes effectively using ACK-SEND approach and take proper position by comparing level. The closer node of the user to root node should be located in lower level. Also, even if a barrier is caused, fast recovery will be guaranteed using ACK-SEND approach. Through this, the newcomer node can fine their location in the multicast tree and join the group fast and effectively.

  • We consider the problem of architecting a reliable content delivery system across an overlay network using TCP connections as the transport primitive. We first argue that natural designs based on store-and-forward principles that tightly couple TCP connections at intermediate end-systems impose fundamental performance limitations, such as dragging down all transfer rates in the system to the rate of the slowest receiver. In contrast, the ROMA architecture we propose incorporates the use of loosely coupled TCP connections together with fast forward error correction techniques to deliver a scalable solution that better accommodates a set of heterogeneous receivers. The methods we develop establish chains of TCP connections, whose expected performance we analyze through equation-based methods. We validate our analytical findings and evaluate the performance of our ROMA architecture using a prototype implementation via extensive Internet experimentation across the PlanetLab distributed testbed.

  • Recent researches of network structure are moving to high-level networks because there are already many research results of low-level network. Especially, current network services has been changed to the multimedia service using multicast routing such as IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) service. And then previous multicast services were provider oriented. So previous multicast structures were organized server/client model. But future multicast services will make user oriented services. Therefore there will be many service providers in the future. At this point, we study P2P network for supporting multi provider. So we research load balancing and contents lookup protocols in P2P network. In this paper, we propose network protocol and system based on super peer P2P for load balancing and efficiently service search. And we considered mobile environment for mobile IPTV.

  • Overlay Multicast is an effective method for efficient utilization of system resources and network bandwidth without using hardware customization. Unlike in IP multicast, multicast tree reconstruction is required when non-leaf node leaves or fails. In this paper, we propose a proactive approach to solve this defect by using a resource reservation of the out degrees. This allows children of non-leaf node to connect to its new parent node immediately when its parent node leaves or fails. In our proposal, a proactive route maintenance gives a fast recovery time and reduces a delay effect in the new route. The simulation results show that our proposal takes shorter period of time than the other algorithms to reconstruct a similar tree and that it is a more effective way to deal with a lot of nodes that have lost their parent nodes.

  • Due to the deployment problem of the IP Multicast service, the Application Layer Multicast (or Overlay Multicast) has appeared as an alter-native of the If Multicast. However, even though plenty of the Application Layer Multicast (ALM) Protocols were designed and their applications were developed according to the diverse requirements of each multicast service, researches on the ALM Protocols are focused on only a protocol design or an efficient multicast group management algorithm. And there is little effort to provide a unified guideline for development of the ALM Protocols and provide an environment for running multiple protocols simultaneously in a system. In this paper, we propose socket APIs to be a reference in developing new ALM Protocols which enables a system to support multiple protocols in a system with other ALM Protocols and which gives an environment to support efficient protocol management.

  • It is strongly believed that multicast will become one of the most promising services on internet for the next generation. Multicast service can be deployed either on network-layer or application-layer. IP multicast (network-layer multicast) is implemented by network nodes (i.e., routers) and avoids multiple copies of the same datagram on the same link. Despite the conceptual simplicity of IP multicast and its obvious benefits, it has not been widely deployed since there remain many unresolved issues. As an alternative to IP multicast, overlay multicast (application-layer multicast) implements the multicast functionality at end hosts rather than routers. This may require more overall bandwidth than IP multicast because duplicate packets travel the same physical links multiple times, but it provides an inexpensive, deployable method of providing point-to-multipoint group communication. In this paper we develop an efficient method applied greedy algorithm for solving two models of overlay multicast routing protocol that is aimed to construct MDST (Minimum Diameter Spanning Tree : minimum cost path from a source node to all its receivers) and MST (Minimum Spanning Tree : minimum total cost spanning all the members). We also simulate and analyze MDST and MST.
