  • Overlay multicasting has received a lot of attention as a core technology for multimedia streaming service. In this paper, we consider the discrete optimal rate allocation problem in multimedia overlay multicasting, which has been proposed by Akbari et al.[2]. The computational complexity of this problem is not known. Thus, we propose a special case which can be solved in polynomial time.

  • The significant enhancement of the edge portion of computer networks including user-side machines and last mile network links encourages the research of the overlay network based data dissemination systems. Varieties of overlay network based data dissemination systems has distinct purposes, and each of them has a proper structure of an overlay network and a efficient communication protocol. In this paper, overlay network based data dissemination systems for Flash Dissemination, whose target is the distribution of relatively small size data to very large number of recipients within very short time, are explored. Mainly two systems, RECREW and FaReCAST, are introduced and analyzed in the aspects of design considerations for overlay networks and communication protocols. According to evaluations for flash dissemination scenarios, it is observed that the proposed overlay network based flash dissemination systems outperforms the previous overlay network based multicasting systems, in terms of the reliability and the dissemination delay. Moreover, the theoretical analysis of the reliability of data dissemination is provided by analysing FaReCAST.

  • Multicast is an efficient transport mechanism for community communications and MANET is recently regarded as a promising solution for support ubiquitous computing as an underlying network technology. However, it is hard to deploy multicast mechanism into MANET owing to scarce resources in wireless networks and unpredictable changes in network topology. Several multicast mechanisms have been proposed in the literature to overcome the limitations. Especially, overlay multicasting schemes present several advantages over network based multicasting schemes. Yet, the overlay multicasting schemes still introduce redundant data transmissions that waste network bandwidth and battery of relay nodes. As a result the performance of the network is degraded. To reduce the redundancy, we propose an efficient way to construct an overlay structure as a multicast data delivery tree that utilizes a branch node which belongs to the tree. By using network simulation, we show that the proposed scheme presents higher packet delivery ratio and lower transmission cost than previously proposed schemes.

  • A multitude of overlay network designs for resilient routing, multicasting, quality of service, content distribution, storage, and object location have been proposed. Overlay networks offer several attractive features, including ease of deployment, flexibility, adaptivity, and an infrastructure for collaboration among hosts. In this paper, we explore cooperation among co-existing, possibly heterogeneous, overlay networks. We discuss a spectrum of cooperative forwarding and information sharing services, and investigate the associated scalability, heterogeneity, and security problems. Motivated by these services, we design Synergy, a utility-based overlay internetworking architecture that fosters overlay cooperation. Our architecture promotes fair peering relationships to achieve synergism. Results from Internet experiments with cooperative forwarding overlays indicate that our Synergy prototype improves delay, throughput, and loss performance, while maintaining the autonomy and heterogeneity of individual overlay networks.

  • In mobile ad hoc networks, an application scenario requires mostly collaborative mobility behavior. The key problem of those applications is scalability with regard to the number of multicast members as well as the number of the multicast group. To enhance scalability with group mobility, we have proposed a multicast protocol based on a new framework for hierarchical multicasting that is suitable for the group mobility model in MANET. The key design goal of this protocol is to solve the problem of reflecting the node's mobility in the overlay multicast tree, the efficient data delivery within the sub-group with group mobility support, and the scalability problem for the large multicast group size. The results obtained through simulations show that our approach supports scalability and efficient data transmission utilizing the characteristic of group mobility.

  • This paper presents an efficient overlay multicast routing protocol (ROMP) and its architecture. ROMP using GPS and region map stands on the basis of scalable 2-tiered multicast architecture and maintains a global overlay multicast tree through reactive fashion. With this approach, the coarse-grain location-awareness for an efficient overlay multicasting and the determination of hot-spot area for efficient data delivery are feasible. The simulation results show that the localized control packets of ROMP prevent the overlay control packets from squandering the physical network resources.

  • In the application rising IP multicast, the waste of available bandwidth occurs of reducing of transmission rate in non-congestion local caused by reducing of transmission rate in congestion local. In this paper, to solve such a problem, we propose a dynamic multicast method using IP multicast and overlay multicast. In proposed method, we elected a local representative for overlay multicasting. When the transmission rate of a group is less than transmission rate threshold, the representative can transmits duplicative packets. In simulation results, it was known that proposed method uses bandwidth more efficiently.

  • Recently, studies for effective multimedia data delivery have been widely performed. Among those researches, internet broadcasting is a technology to transmit various multimedia contents to variety of costumers on the internet simultaneously. To deliver large scale multimedia data such as internet broadcasting, efficient data delivery method is required. Therefore, technologies based on the overlay multicast of application larger multicast application are actively studied as an alternative for multicast overcoming shortcoming of uni-cast based technologies, which we one to one transmission methods. In this paper, we classify and study on the overlay multicasting for internet broadcasting, which can be implemented by application programs without modification in physical layer of the internet.

  • Overlay Multicast is an effective method for optimal utilization of system resources and network bandwidth without a need for hardware customization. It is an effective method of providing Personal Internet Broadcasting Service for better Quality of Service to many users. In this paper, we propose a multicast tree that uses Local Swap method. In order to prove the effectiveness of the new technique suggested here, using the proposed method and personal internet broadcasting service, information is abstracted, compared and analyzed under various overlay multicast algorithm conditions. We have proved that the suggested local swap technique is more effective by comparing it with other existing techniques in various methods such as using various overlay based multicast algorithm simulation.

We propose a efficient overlay multicasting network policy for multimedia services with composite stream service topology. And in order to evaluate the ability of the proposed scheme's performance, We test the performance of multi_casting nodes with RTT values, the bandwidth attrition rate for building the network topology and MOR effects with Overcast[5] The result of simulation shows improves about $8{\sim}20%$ of performance.
