  • In this paper we present a method of separating musical instrument sound sources from their monaural mixture, where we take the harmonic structure of music into account and use the sparseness and the overlapping NMF [1] to select representative spectral basis vectors which are used to reconstruct unmixed sound. A method of spectral basis selection is illustrated and experimental results with monaural mixture of voice/cello and trumpet/viola are shown to confirm the validity of our proposed method.

  • This study review of Compositional Evaluation Items for Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map (ECVAM) in Korea. The ECVAM is composed of legal assessment and environmental/ecological assessment items. ECVAM basically adapts an overlay method for environmental/ecological assessment items. The objective of this study is to suggest supplementary items for the ECVAM with the following process : Overlapping rates of the assessment items in the ECVAM are calculated to understand the grade distribution of the environmental conservation value assessment and to analyze the overlapping rates among the assessment items, as a result it is found that various items are overlapped each other. In order to reflect effectively each assessment item to the ECVAM, Analyzed the overlapping degree among assessment items to be applied to this map. On the concrete we gripped results to be assessed by various items, which were overlapped each other. In order to reflect effectively each assessment item to the environmental conservation value assessment map of national land, we analyzed the overlapping degree on environmental/ecological items, and investigated the grade distribution by field survey. In this study we assessed the ECVAM by 5 kinds of method. Method 1 is Grade 1 areas of each administrative district, Method 2 is Comparing overlapping areas of each assessment items Grade 1, 2 and Permission of each assessment items' duplication, Method 3 is Grade 1, 2 areas by only singular assessment items, Method 4 is Only Grade 1 areas of Method 2 and Method 5 is Only Grade 2 areas of Method 2. As results, Method 1 showed Seoul and other metropolitan cities reveal a high proportion of Grade I regions by the legal assessment items. Kangwon-Do, show a high proportion of Grade I regions by the environmental/ecological assessment item. Method 2 showed 93.4% of diameter Grade II(standard for stability), forest diameter item was accounted for 99.9% by Method 3, Method 4 showed 95.7% of forest diameter and forest density was accounted for 66.4% by Method 5. From now on, this study will contribute to reduce the complexity in the process of manufacturing ECVAM of National Land, and to raise the pliability in the process of managing and updating this map.

  • The number of XML documents, which are widely used as a standard method for information expression and exchange in the web-based environment, increases rapidly along with the growing production of large XML documents. Many studies have been made to store and retrieve these XML documents on RDBMS, among which Shared Inlining storage method has a higher level of retrieval efficiency. The Shared Inlining method is the technique that analyzes the DTD information and stores the XML document in RDBMS by dividing for each node component. This study proposes the technique to resolve the overlapping problem that occurs in the element with several child nodes in the existing Shared Inlining method. The suggested method stores the XML document in the Shared Inlining structures appropriate to the DTD definition and enhances the accuracy of retrieval.

  • As the space of the wind power generator stator end is limited, it is difficult for us to place the inner evaporative cooling system in it. We use the non-overlapping concentrated windings scheme to solve the placing and cooling problem. The characteristic of a 5MW direct-driven permanent magnet generator with non-overlapping concentrated windings were analyzed under no-load, rating-load and short-circuit by (Finite Element Method) FEM for verification of design. We studied the connection methods of the stator windings and designed the end connection member. The heat dissipation of the stator end was simulated by FEM, the result showed that the end cooling could satisfy the wind generator operation needs. These results show that the direct-driven permanent magnet wind power generators with non-overlapping concentrated windings and inner evaporative cooling system can solve the cooling problem of wind power generator, and obtain good performance at the same time.

  • Laser-assisted machining (LAM) is one of the most effective methods for enhancing the machinability of difficult-to-cut materials, such as titanium alloys and various ceramics, and has been studied by many researchers. LAM is a method that facilitates machining by softening a workpiece using a laser heat source. The advantages of the LAM process are decreases in tool wear, cutting force, and surface roughness. However, when the material is over-heated, melting or burning can occur. This study analyzed the heat source distribution with regard to overlapping of preheating on the laser heating path with an acute angle, a right angle and obtuse angles. Then, a power reduction method was proposed to reduce the melting and burning of the workpiece.

  • As industrial standard data, the STL format which approximates three dimensional CAD model to triangular facets, is used for RP(Rapid Prototyping) system in recent days. Because most RP system take the only form of two dimensional line segments as an input stream inspite of its imperfectness while converting into STL format, a CAD model is converted into a standard industrial format which is composed of many triangular facets. The error verifying process is composed of four main steps, and these are 1) Remove facets with two or more vertices equal to each other. 2) Fix overlapping error such as more than three facets adjacent to anedge. 3) Fill holes in the mesh by using Delaunay triangulation method. 4) Correct the wrong direction and normal vectors. This paper is concerned with serching the mentioned errors in advance and modifying them.

  • Data analysts sometimes test the equality of two normal population means by the inspection of the overlapping of two confidence intervals. This method seems simple to use; however, it is a common statistical misconception to suppose that two normal means are not significantly different because of no overlapping. This article will present transforming the confidence interval of the mean difference to individual confidence intervals that are visualized to inspect overlapping. It will also be shown that this technique can be extended when comparing the k normal population means with equal variances.

  • When cryptosystem designers implement devices that computing power or memory is limited such as smart cards, PDAs and so on, not only he/she has to be careful side channel attacks(SCA) but also the cryptographic algorithms within the device has to be efficient using small memory. For this purpose, countermeasures such as Moiler's method, Okeya-Takagi's one and overlapping window method, based on window method to prevent SCA were proposed. However, Moiler's method and Okeya-Talngi's one require additional cost to prevent other SCA such as DPA, Second-Order DPA, Address-DPA, and so on since they are immune to only SPA. Also, overlapping window method has a drawback that requires big memory. In this paper, we analyze existing countermeasures and propose an efficient and secure countermeasure that is immune to all existing SCA using advantages of each countermeasure. Moreover, the proposed countermeasure can enhance the efficiency using mixed coordinate systems.

  • Today, most construction projects have been higher, bigger, and more complicated gradually. So the domestic construction companies have been trying to understand overall construction process and relationships between activities, and adopted various management techniques and tools in order to perform a systematic and effective scheduling. However numerous problems have been occurred on the practical applications because most existing scheduling softwares adapt ADM and PDM techniques. One of them, PDM, is so uneffective because it represents the overlapping relationships between two consecutive activities only by the combinations of start and finish points between two activities. In order to supplement the demerit of PDM, Beeline Diagramming Method(BDM) is proposed as a new networking technique, it can represent two-way multiple overlapping relationships between two activities directly. However there are occurring a loop phenomenon on applying two-way multiple overlapping relationships. This research proposes and verifies the schedule computation method of two-way multiple overlapping relationships on the BDM network.

  • New type of rock excavation method using a waterjet system is being developed to secure economic feasibility and to reduce vibrations during excavation. In waterjet rock excavation, overlapping of cutting width is essential for high efficiency. In this study, cutting experiments for granite specimens were performed using abrasive waterjet system according to the overlapping ratio and standoff distance. Based on the experimental results, the granite cutting performance was analyzed according to the overlapping ratio. In addition, removal shapes of the cross-section were analyzed in terms of the cutting depth, width, and volume after waterjet cutting. When the overlapping ratio is less than 58%, rock specimens are partially removed due to the insufficient overlapping ratio. However, when the overlapping ratio exceeds 67%, overcutting phenomenon is observed. For the partial overlapping ratio (i.e., 25~75%), cutting efficiency is increased in the removal volume. This study is expected to be used as the important basic data for determining the optimum overlapping ratio when the waterjet system is applied for rock excavation.
