  • In this paper, oneM2M based data monitoring and acquisition system is designed and implemented to measure and transmit the voltage, current, temperature, acceleration and vibration of the motor. The proposed system can detect electrical faults (overcurrent, reverse phase, phase loss, ground fault) and mechanical faults (MC counter, motor operation time, bearing and winding temperature, motor speed, insulation resistance). The system consists of sensor data collection, web server, php, database, wired/wireless communication system. The insulation resistance and the motor speed were measured, and the experimental results were similar for both the test resistance value and the reference input value.

  • This study investigates the multi-objective fuzzy optimization of crowbar resistance for the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). By integrating the crowbar resistance of the crowbar circuit as a decision variable, a multi-objective model for crowbar resistance value optimization has been established to minimize rotor overcurrent and to simultaneously reduce the DFIG reactive power absorbed from the grid during the process of LVRT. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) is applied to solve this optimization problem. In the proposed GA, the value of the crowbar resistance is represented by floating-point numbers in the GA population. The MOGA emphasizes the non-dominated solutions and simultaneously maintains diversity in the non-dominated solutions. A fuzzy-set-theory-based is employed to obtain the best solution. The proposed approach has been evaluated on a 3 MW DFIG LVRT. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach for solving the crowbar resistance multi-objective optimization problem in the DFIG LVRT.

  • A safe and reliable protection system in distribution networks, specifically, those hosting distribution generation units, needs a robust over-current protection scheme. To avoid unintentional DG disconnection during fault conditions, a protection system should operate quickly and selectively. Therefore, to achieve this aim, satisfying coordination constraints are important for any protection scheme in distribution networks; these pose a challenging task in interconnected and large-scale networks. In this paper, a new coordination strategy, based on the same non-standard time-current curve for all relays, in order to find optimal coordination of directional over-current relays, is proposed. The main aim is to reduce violations, especially miscoordination between pair relays. Besides this, the overall time of operation of relays during primary and backup operations should be minimized concurrently. This work is being tackled based on genetic algorithms and motivated by the heuristic algorithm. For the numerical analysis, to show the superiority of this coordination strategy, the IEEE 30-bus test system, with a mesh structure and supplemented with distributed generation, is put under extensive simulations, and the obtained results are discussed in depth.

  • About 58% of fires are electric fires. In this study, we analyzed the factors of fire caused by electricity and studied the system that can prevent fire in advance. In order to prevent disasters, basically, various electrical IoT sensors are needed to detect fire signs. Each of these sensors continuously receives a lot of situation information and sends it to the main system. The collected big data continuously checks whether the disaster is over the threshold that can cause disaster through pattern analysis, and can check whether there is any problem by comparing the data. In the event of a threshold, alarms are signaled and problems are reported. This prevents fire by preventing electrical problems such as overcurrent and leakage current.

  • Induction motors connected with a three-phase AC system may malfunction due to reverse phase or open phase faults. Conventional overcurrent relays and overheating relays are used to prevent such accidents; however, their drawbacks include a low response speed and false operation. Therefore, in this study, a digital relay for the reverse-open phase was designed and fabricated. This relay can detect the reverse phase and open phase faults and send a trigger signal to the control circuit. The proposed relay was developed based on a microcontroller. The detection times of the reverse phase and open phase were verified as 320ms and 80ms, respectively. Compared with conventional relays that only protect the motor from one type of fault, the proposed relay can detect both, reverse phase and open phase faults. In addition, the fault detection, identification criterion, and trigger signal patterns can be modified by programming according to the requirements of users.

  • This paper presents a novel fast shut-down scheme for Buck converter by using a coupled inductor. Generally, a controller for Buck converter stops generating PWM patterns in various fault cases: Overcurrent, Short circuit, or Overvoltage, but the inductor and capacitor keep supplying their stored energy to loads although the switching operations in Buck converter stopped. The stored energy in the inductor and capacitor could cause electrical stresses on breakers and safety problems. The main idea of the proposed fast shutdown scheme is to demagnetize the inductor core by using a coupled inductor, and its performance and operations are verified by using PSIM Simulation.

  • This paper presents the design and manufacture of a Solid State Relay (SSR) life prediction device that can predict the lifetime of an SSR, which is a key component of a glass forming machine. The lifetime of an SSR is over when the current supplied to the relay is overcurrent (20 A or higher), and the operating time is 100,000 h or longer. Therefore, the life prediction device for the SSR was designed using DSP to accurately read the current and temperature values from the current and temperature sensors, respectively. The characteristic test of the manufactured non-contact relay life prediction device confirmed that the current and temperature were safely measured. Thus, the SSR lifetime prediction device developed in this study can be used to predict the lifetime of an SSR attached to a glass forming machine.

  • The design of a battery package and a BMS module for applications using seawater rechargeable batteries, which are known as next-generation energy storage devices, is proposed herein. Seawater rechargeable batteries, which are currently in the initial stage of research, comprise primarily components such as anode and cathode materials. Their application is challenging owing to their low charge capacity and limited charge/discharge voltage and current. Therefore, we design a method for packaging multiple cells and a BMS module for the safe charging and discharging of seawater rechargeable batteries. In addition, a prototype seawater rechargeable battery package and BMS module are manufactured, and their performances are verified by evaluating the prevention of overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, and short circuit during charging and discharging.

  • This paper presents a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique of an LLC resonant converter for stable mode transition. LLC resonant converters used in various applications require high efficiency and high power density. However, because of circuit property, a wider voltage gain range equates to a greater circuit loss, so maintaining high efficiency at all voltage gain ranges is difficult. In this case, full bridge-half bridge mode transition method can be used, which maintains high efficiency even in a wide voltage gain range. However, this method causes damage to the circuit through overcurrent by the mode transition. This study analyzes the cause of the problem and proposes a mode transition method that applies frequency compensation technique to solve the problem. The proposed method verifies the stable transition through simulation analysis and experimental results.

  • The evaluation of no-insulation (NI) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) typically uses the lumped equivalent circuit (LEC) model. Constant parameters in the NI HTS LEC model accurately predict voltage and central magnetic field at currents below the critical current. However, it is difficult to find constant circuit parameters that simultaneously satisfy the measured voltage and magnetic field under overcurrent conditions. Recent research highlights changes in contact resistance during transient conditions, which may impact power loss estimation in NI HTS coils. Therefore, we confirm the influence of contact resistance changes on loss calculation in the transient state for NI HTS coil. To achieve this, we introduce a measurement data analysis method based on the LEC model and compare it with the LEC model using constant circuit parameters.
