Improved Algorithm for User Based Recommender System

  • This study is to investigate the MAE of prediction value by collaborative filtering algorithm originated by GroupLens and improved algorithm. To decrease the MAE on the collaborative recommender system on user based, this research proposes the improved algorithm, which reduces the possibility of over estimation of active user's preference mean collaboratively using other user’s preference mean. The result shows the MAE of prediction by improved algorithm is better than original algorithm, so the active user's preference mean used in prediction formula is possibly over estimated.

  • A few methodologies have been recently developed to estimate the environmental affect when various materials and components are used in building life cycle. The direct survey method has limitations to analyze the environmental problems because of the limit of survey scope and cost. Therefore, another indirect method has been developed as alternatives. The indirect method is represented as input-output analysis. This paper aimed at analyzing the estimation the environmental affect of building materials and works at building construction, utilizing the input-output analysis as a indirect estimation method. The results suggested that the building works is overally responsible for the energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission. In other words, Over the 80% of the total consumption and $CO_2$ emission are resulted at the building work.

  • In this paper, a new Recursive Least-Squares(RLS) algorithm based on matrix pseudo-inverses is presented. The aim is to use the proposed new RLS algorithm for not only the over-determined but also the under-determined estimation problem. Compared with previous results, e.g., Jie Zhou et al., the derivation of the proposed recursive form is much easier, and the recursion form is also much simpler. Furthermore, it is shown by simulations that the proposed RLS algorithm is more efficient and numerically stable than the existing algorithms.

  • In this paper, we introduce the efficient carrier phase estimating algorithm collaborate with the channel decoder of turbo coded QPSK modulation for mobile DVB-RCS systems. At low SNR, the phase estimation using soft information of turbo decoder is able to improve power efficiency because of achieving the good synchronization. We investigate performance of external single estimator and internal multiple estimator in the PSP (Per Survivor Processing) manner over AWGN channel. For phase estimation, the LMS (Least Mean Square) scheme is considered. Three different APP-based methods are also proposed.

  • Durability estimation of a prototype vehicle has traditionally relied heavily on accelerated durability tests using predefined proving grounds or rig tests using a road simulator. By use of those tests, it is very difficult to predict durability failures in actual service environments. This motivated the development of an integrated CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) methodology for the durability estimation of a prototype vehicle in actual service environments. Since expensive computational costs such as computation time and hardware resources are required for a full vehicle simulation in those environments with a very long span of event time, the conventional CAE methodologies have little feasibility. An efficient computational methodology for durability estimations is applied with theoretical developments. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is shown by the comparison of results of the typical actual service environment such as the city mode with those of the typical accelerated durability test over the Belgian road.

  • Constrained Bayesian estimates overcome the over shrinkness toward the mean which usual Bayes and empirical Bayes estimates produce by matching first and second empirical moments; subsequently, a constrained Bayes estimate is recommended to use in case the research objective is to produce a histogram of the estimates considering the location and dispersion. The well-known squared error loss function exclusively emphasizes the precision of estimation and may lead to biased estimators. Thus, the balanced loss function is suggested to reflect both goodness of fit and precision of estimation. In insurance pricing, the accurate location estimates of risk and also dispersion estimates of each risk group should be considered under proper loss function. In this paper, by applying these two ideas, the benefit of the constrained Bayes estimates and balanced loss function will be discussed; in addition, application effectiveness will be proved through an analysis of real insurance accident data.

Selection of Optimal Values in Spatial Estimation of Environmental Variables using Geostatistical Simulation and Loss Functions

  • Spatial estimation of environmental variables has been regarded as an important preliminary procedure for decision-making. A minimum variance criterion, which has often been adopted in traditional kriging algorithms, does not always guarantee the optimal estimates for subsequent decision-making processes. In this paper, a geostatistical framework is illustrated that consists of uncertainty modeling via stochastic simulation and risk modeling based on loss functions for the selection of optimal estimates. Loss functions that quantify the impact of choosing any estimate different from the unknown true value are linked to geostatistical simulation. A hybrid loss function is especially presented to account for the different impact of over- and underestimation of different land-use types. The loss function-specific estimates that minimize the expected loss are chosen as optimal estimates. The applicability of the geostatistical framework is demonstrated and discussed through a case study of copper mapping.

  • The EMG amplitude estimator, which has been investigated as an indicator of muscle force, is of high relevance not only in biomechanical studies but also more and more in clinical applications. This paper presents a new approach to estimate surface EMG amplitude by using the mean spike and mean turn amplitude(MSA and MTA) variables. Surface EMG signals, a total of 198 signals, were recorded from biceps brachii muscle over the range of 20-80%MVC isometric contraction and performance of the MSA and MTA variables applied to amplitude estimation of the EMG signals were investigated. To examine the performance, a SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) was computed from each amplitude estimate. The results of the study indicate that MSA and MTA amplitude estimations with first order whitening filter and 300[ms]-350[ms] moving average window length are optimal and show better performance(mean SNR improvement of 6%-15%) than the most frequently used variables(ARV and RMS).

  • This paper is estimation of structure damage caused by VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) in enclosure. As we estimate the influence of damage which occur at gas facility in factory. We can utilize it the elementary data of safety distance. In this study, the influence of explosion over-pressure caused by VCE in enclosure was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structure into the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to structures 20 meters away and that of overpressure to glass bursting 80m meters away showed nothing.

As we estimate the influence of damage which occur at gas storage tank in filling station. We can utilize the elementary data of safety distance. In this study, the influence of over-pressure caused by VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) in filling station was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structure into the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to structures of max 265 meters away and to glass bursting of 1150 meters away was nearly zero in open space explosion.
