  • Radio relics are diffuse radio sources found in the outskirts of galaxy clusters and they are thought to trace synchrotron-emitting relativistic electrons accelerated at shocks. We explore a diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) model for radio relics in which a spherical shock with the parameters relevant for the Sausage radio relic in cluster CIZA J2242.8+5301 impinges on a magnetized cloud containing fossil relativistic electrons. This model is expected to explain some observed characteristics of giant radio relics such as the relative rareness, uniform surface brightness along the length of thin arc-like radio structure, and spectral curvature in the integrated radio spectrum. We find that the observed surface brightness profile of the Sausage relic can be explained reasonably well by shocks with speed $u_s{\sim}3{\times}10^3km/s$ and sonic Mach number $M_s{\sim}3$. These shocks also produce curved radio spectra that steepen gradually over $(0.1-10){\nu}_{br}$ with a break frequency ${\nu}_{br}{\sim}1GHz$, if the duration of electron acceleration is ~60-80 Myr. However, the abrupt increase in the spectral index above ~1.5 GHz observed in the Sausage relic seems to indicate that additional physical processes, other than radiative losses, operate for electrons with the Lorentz factor, ${\gamma}_e$ > $10^4$.

  • Recently, the occurrences of electrical fire have been suppressed by a residual current protective devices(RCD), a molded case circuit breaker(MCCB) and a fuse in case of an earth leakage, a short circuit and an over current. But it is impossible for the RCD to break the circuit in the case of the conductor fractures, the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit of low voltage wiring. Therefore, it is require to study the constructive problem of the RCD. In this paper, we have tested the operation characteristics of the RCD according to the R load and R-L load in the conductor fractures, the failure of pressure contacts on connecting points and the momentary short circuit of low voltage wiring.

  • Gate length, height, and silicide thickness have all been shrinking linearly as device density has progressively increased over the years. We investigated the effect of the cobalt diffusion during the silicide formation process on the 60$\AA$-thick gate oxide lying underneath the Ti/Co and Co/Ti bilayers. We prepared four different cobalt silicides, which have similar sheet resistance, made from the film structure of Co/Ti(interlayer), and Ti(capping layer)/Co, and peformed the current-voltage, time-to-break down, and capacitance-voltage measurements. Our result revealed that the cobalt silicide process without the Ti capping layer allowed cobalt atoms to diffuse into the upper interface of gate oxides. We propose that 100$\AA$-thick titanium interlayer may lessen the diffusion of cobalt to gate oxides in 1500-$\AA$ height polysilicon gates.

  • This study proposes a new vibration control approach for adjacent twin structures, which is termed as viscous damper asymmetric coupling system in this paper. The proposed system takes a concept that the diagonal bracing viscous dampers are asymmetrically distributed in two buildings to break the behavior symmetry of the twin buildings and then the coupling viscous damper is additionally installed at the top floor of the two buildings to couple both buildings and interactively transfer the asymmetric behavior-caused damping forces into both buildings. These asymmetric damping distributions and interacting damping forces of the connection damper efficiently suppress the overall vibration of the damper-coupled adjacent twin buildings efficiently. Genetic algorithm (GA) based multi-objective optimization technique is adopted for optimal design of the proposed system. In the numerical example of adjacent twin 10-story building structures, the conventional control approach, that is, uniform damping distribution system (UDS) is also taken into account for comparison purpose. The optimization results verify that the proposed system either can improve the control performance over the UDS with the same damping capacity, or can save the damping capacity significantly while maintaining the similar level of control performance to the UDS.

  • This paper was studied the possibility on the recycling of the scrap used as the food packaging materials, PP/EVOH/PP multilayer. Recycling study was investigated into thermal and mechanical properties of samples which were mixed PP/EVOH waste plastics scrap with two kinds of compatibilizers. Melt behaviors as thermal property and tensile strength, % strain at break point, and tensile modulus as mechanical properties were investigated into kinds of and the weight ratio of compatibilizers. Mixed PP/EVOH waste plastics shows compatibity when Minanto-s and GMS as compatibilizers are mixed 0.5wt.% over.

  • The mixed convective heat transfer problems are characterized by the relatively significant contribution of buoyancy force to the transport processes of momentum and heat. Past analytical studies on this kind of problems have been carried out by employing either the conventional R-.epsilon. turbulence model which includes constant turbulent Prandtl number .sigma.$_{+}$ 1 or an extended R-.epsilon. turbulence model which takes account of the buoyancy effect in appropriate length scale equations. But in the latter case, the temperature variance .the+a.$^{2}$ over bar is approximated by a model under local equilibrium condition and the time scale ratio between velocity and temperature is assumed to be constant. These approximation is known to break down when the buoyancy effect is dominant. The present study is aimed at development of new computational turbulence closure level which can be applied to this rather complex turbulent process. The temperature variance is obtained directly by solving its dynamic transport equation and the time scale ratio which is variable in space is computed by a solution of a dynamic equation for the rate of scalar dissipation .epsilon.$_{\thetod}$ It was found that the computational results are in good agreement with available experimental data of wide range of unstable conditions.

  • With the increase of the frequency in large-scale floods and natural disasters, the demands for highly accurate numerical river models are also rapidly growing. Generally, flows in rivers are modeled with previously developed and well-established numerical models based on shallow water equations. However, the so-far-developed models reveal a lot of limitations in the analysis of discontinuous flow or flow which needs accurate modeling. In this study, the numerical shallow water model based on the discontinuous Galerkin method was applied to the simulation of one-dimensional transcritical flow, including dam break flows and a flow over a hump. The favorable agreement was observed between numerical solutions and analytical solutions.

  • A thyristor switch circuit for capacitor discharge application, of which the equivalent circuit includes a resistor between cathode and gate of a reverse-conducting thyristor and an avalanche diode anti-parallel between its anode and gate to set thyristor tum-on voltage, is monolithically integrated by planar process with AVE double-implantation method. To ensure a lower breakdown voltage of the avalanche diode for thyristor tum-on than the break-over voltage of the thyristor, $p^+$ wells on thyristor p base layer are made by boron implantation/drive-in for a steeper doping profile with higher concentrations while rest p layers of thyristor and free-wheeling diode parts are formed with Al implantation/drive-in for a doping profile of lower steepness. The free-wheeling diode part is isolated from the thyristor part by formation of separated p-well emitter for suppressing commutation between them, which is achieved during the formation of thyristor p-base layer.

  • A calculation model is developed to predict the transient free surface flow on the containment floor following a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) of pressurized water reactors (PWR) for the use of debris transport evaluation. The model solves the two-dimensional Shallow Water Equation (SWE) using a finite volume method (FVM) with unstructured triangular meshes. The numerical scheme is based on a fully explicit predictor-corrector method to achieve a fast-running capability and numerical accuracy. The Harten-Lax-van Leer (HLL) scheme is used to reserve a shock-capturing capability in determining the convective flux term at the cell interface where the dry-to-wet changing proceeds. An experiment simulating a sudden break of a water reservoir with L-shape open channel is calculated for validation of the present model. It is shown that the present model agrees well with the experiment data, thus it can be justified for the free surface flow with accuracy. From the calculation of flow field over the simplified containment floor of APR1400, the important phenomena of free surface flow including propagations and interactions of waves generated by local water level distribution and reflection with a solid wall are found and the transient flow rates entering the Holdup Volume Tank (HVT) are obtained within a practical computational resource.
