MBE (multi-band excitation) coder can achieve high qualify synthetic speech below 4.0 kbps. There are, however, significant differences of the fine structure between the original spectrum and the synthetic spectrum. They are mainly due to the exclusive partition of voiced and unvoiced regions in frequency domain and the decision procedure based on the experimental threshold. This paper proposes MMBE (mixed multi-band excitation) speech model to overcome drawbacks of a MBE coder. In addition, two analysis methods, which do not need my decision procedure based on a threshold, are presented. Both voiced and unvoiced components can be mixed over all the frequency axis in the MMBE speech model. To illustrate the potential of the proposed speech model, we develop a 2.6 kbps MMBE coder and compare it with a 2.9 kbps MBE coder by both objective and subjective methods. The results have shown that the proposed coder has a better performance even at a lower bit-rate compared with the MBE coder.

Modal participation factor (MPF) is a widely used in a mode-coupling squeal noise problem for finding the most sensitive component over a complex brake system in a vehicle using eigenvectors of sub-components. This methodology requires the problematic total response of system by the unstable squeal noise at a specific frequency as well as eigenvectors of each component belonging to brake system. In this paper, a unit-force response analysis is performed for intact total system to obtain eigenvectors of each component and then such data is directly used for the contribution analysis of a squeal noise problem. Since the eigenvectors of each component induced from virtual unit-excitation is most reliable owing to the intact boundary condition, it can be expected that the corresponding contribution analysis with MPF also provides a trustworthy result.
This present work focuses on the influence of nonlinearities associated with impact on the rocking behavior of a rigid body block subjected to a two-dimensional excitation in the horizontal and vertical directions. The nonlinearities in rocking system are found to be strongly dependent on the impact between the block and the base that abruptly reduces the kinetic energy. In this study, the rocking systems of the two types are considered : The first is an undamped rocking system model that disregards the energy dissipation during the impact and the second is a damped rocking system, which incorporates energy dissipation during the impact. The response analysis is carried out by a numerical method using a non-dimensional rocking equation in which the variations in the excitation levels are considered. Chaos responses are observed over a wide range of parameter values, and particularly in the case of large vertical displacements, the chaotic characteristics are observed in the time histories, Poincare sections, the power spectral density and the largest Lyapunov exponents of the rocking responses. Complex behavior characteristics of rocking responses are illustrated by the Poincare sections.

Two-phase cross-flow exists in many shell-tube heat exchangers such as steam generators, condensers and reboilers. An understanding of flow-induced vibration excitation mechanism is necessary to avoid problems due to excessive tube vibration. This paper presents the results of a series of experiments done on tube bundles of different geometries subjected to two-phase cross-flow simulated by air-water mixtures. Normal(30$^{\circ}$) and rotated (60$^{\circ}$)triangular, and normal(90$^{\circ}$) and rotated (45$^{\circ}$) square tube bundle configurations of pitch-to-diameter ratio of 1.2 to 1.5 were tested over a range of mass fluxes from 0 to 1,000kg/$m^2$ㆍ s and void fraction from 0 to 100%. The effects of tube bundle geometry on vibration excitation mechanism such as fluidelastic instability and random turbulence, and on dynamic parameters such as damping and hydrodynamic mass are discussed. A lower pitch-to-diameter results in a higher hydrodynamic mass. The effect of tube bundle configurations on damping and random turbulence excitation is minor. The effect of pitch-to-diameter on the fluidelastic instability, however, is significant.

Dual electromagnetic sensor is used for sensing the weld line. The sensor consists of excitation and two sensing coil wound over the ferro-magnetic core. By using the dual sensor, the effect of noise is minimized. It is based on the generation of eddy currents in the welding plate by passing current through the excitation coil. The sensor can be used to track the butt joints having no gap between them, where a vision based sensor fails to track. Sensor sensitivity depends on the number of coil turns, frequency of excitation, distance of a sensor from the work piece, diameter of core, etc. The whole system consists of a sensor, a signal processing board, a motion controller and a personnel computer (PC). The raw sensor signal is processed using the signal processing board. It consists of amplification, rectification, filtering, averaging, offset adjustment, etc. Based on sensor data, the motion controller adjusts the position of a welding torch.
The passive control of structures using a pendulum tuned mass damper has been extensively studied in the technical literature. As the frequency of the pendulum depends only on its length and the acceleration of gravity, to tune the frequency of the pendulum with that of the structure, the pendulum length is the only design variable. However, in many cases, the required length and the space necessary for its installation are not compatible with the design. In these cases, one can replace the classical pendulum by a virtual pendulum which consists of a mass moving over a curved surface, allowing thus for a greater flexibility in the absorber design, since the length of the pendulum becomes irrelevant and the shape of the curved surface can be optimized. A mathematical model for a building with a pendular tuned mass damper and a detailed parametric analysis is conducted to study the influence of this device on the nonlinear oscillations and stability of the main system under harmonic and seismic base excitation. In addition to the circular profiles, different curved surfaces with softening and hardening characteristics are analyzed. Also, the influence of impact on energy dissipation is considered. A detailed parametric analysis is presented showing that the proposed damper can not only reduce sharply the displacements, and consequently the internal forces in the main structure, but also the accelerations, increasing user comfort. A review of the relevant aspects is also presented.

We report the development of miniature fluorescence detection systems that employ miniature prism, mirrors and low coat CCD camera to detect the fluorescence emitted from 40 fluorescently-labeled protein patterns without scanner. This kind of miniature fluorescence detection system can be used in point of care. We introduce two systems, one uses prism+mirror block and the other uses prism and two mirrors. A large NA microscope eyepiece and low cost CCD camera are used. We fabricated protein chip containing multi-pattern BSA labeled with Cy5, using MEMS technology and modified the surface chemically to clean and to immobilize proteins. The measurements show that the combination of prism and mirrors can homogenize elliptical excitation light over the sample with higher optical efficiency, and increase the separation between excitation and fluorescence light at the CCD to give higher signal intensity and higher signal to noise ratio. The measurements also show that protein concentrations ranging from 10 ng/ml to 1000 ng/ml can be assayed with very small error. We believe that the proposed fluorescence detection system can be refined to build a commercially valuable hand-held or miniature detection device.
This paper proposes a new type of consequent-pole permanent-magnet (CPPM) machine with stator axial magnetic ring that increases torque capability over a wide speed range and enhances efficiency for the built-in rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine used in new energy vehicles. The excitation winding of the CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine in the stator is replaced by ferrite magnetic ring to simplify the structure and manufacturing process of the machine. The basic structure and magnetic regulation principle of the proposed machine are introduced and compared with the traditional interior rare-earth permanent magnet synchronous machine and CPPM hybrid excitation synchronous machine. Finally, experimental results of a new type of CPPM synchronous motor prototype with axial magnetic ring are introduced in the paper.
A vacuum ultraviolet photolysis of ethyl bromide was studied in the pressure range of 0.5-19.9 torr and at 123.6 nm krypton resonance line. The pressure effect on the reaction was studied by increasing the reactant pressure and by adding an inert gas, e.g., He. In the observation the monatomic gas is found to be no effect in the reaction. A scavenger effect of the reaction was also performed by adding NO gas as a radical scavenger and was found to be quite efficient to scavenge a radical product $C_2H_6$. The observation of the major reaction product $C_2H_6$ was interpreted in terms of a molecular elimination. Nontheless the decreasing phenomenon of ${\phi}_{C_2H_4}/{\phi}_{C_2H_6}$ with pressure rise was attributed to the existence of the two electronically excited states. One state proceeds to the molecular elimination and the other to carbon-bromine bond fission. The excitation and the decomposition mechanisms between two excited states and the reaction products were interpreted in terms of the first excitation which proceeds the molecular elimination, and the second excitation which resulted from the first excited state by collisional cross over decomposes by carbon-bromine bond fission.

This paper presents the measuring process of dynamic properties of offshore wind power foundation and provides consideration of each step. This Guideline enables to maintain consistent measuring procedure and therefore increase the reliability of test results. Small scaled suction bucket foundation was fabricated to represent the commercial support structure installation mechanism and two cases(free-free, free-fixed) of dynamic tests were performed at workshop. From the tests, the importance of dynamic properties of connection part between suction bucket and tower was figured out. More over, types and configuration of measuring devices are recommended which can help find the natural frequency of wind turbine foundation correctly. In field test, it was found that the natural frequency of suction bucket foundation was increased linearly with the penetration depth due to the confining effect of ambient soil. Meanwhile, it was not easy to get an enough excitation force with normal impact hammer because the N.F of suction bucket model was in the lower range of 0 Hz ~ 5 Hz. Therefore, new excitation method which has enough force and can excite lower frequency range was devised. This study will help develop safety check procedure of suction bucket foundation in field at each installation stage using the N.F measurement.
