  • In this paper, the leakage safety of prestressed concrete structure including the insulation panels has been analyzed using a finite element analysis just after a collapse of 9% nickel inner tank. This FEM study shows that the outer tank may contain the leaked cryogenic liquid for the time being until the primary pump in the inner tank transports stored cryogenic liquids to the nearest LNG storage tank before the outer tank is demolished. This means that the total tank thickness from the insulation panel to the outer tank system safely may retain the leaked cryogenic fluids. The FE computed results indicate that the current structure in a full containment tank is obviously enough to securing the leak-proof safety of the tank system with two primary pumps.

  • Dent resistance is determined by both shape characteristics, i.e., local radius of curvature and sheet thickness, and material properties such as yield strength. This work presents results of a study on the effect of work hardening and bake hardening on dent resistance of aluminum alloy sheet parts by considering the forming condition and baking temperature.

  • This paper discusses the deformation characteristics of a scaled-down automotive outer door panel with vacuum-assisted incremental sheet forming. The vacuum condition between the die and Al6052-H32 sheet with a thickness of 1.0 mm is reviewed with the goal of improving the geometrical accuracy of the target product. The material flow according to the forming tool path, including the multi-tool path and conventional contour tool path, is investigated considering the degradation of the pillow effect. To reduce friction between the tool and the sheet during incremental forming, automotive engine oil (5W-30) is used as a lubricant, and the strain field on the surface of the formed product is analyzed using ARGUS. By comparing the geometry and material flow characteristics of products under different test conditions, it is confirmed that the product surface quality can be significantly improved when the vacuum condition is employed in conjunction with a multi-tool path strategy.

  • In recent domestic automotive industry, applications of computer simulation to the manufacturing of stamping dies for inner and outer body panels which greatly affect durability and aesthetic quality of automobiles, have been increased. Enhancement of die quality, and reduction of total die manufacturing time and consequently manufacturing cost are the visible outcome. However, to successfully apply the result of simulation by a commercial package to the die manufacturing, development of an optimal die manufacturing process is required upon the completion of analysis of forte and shortcomings of available sheet metal forming softwares in the market. Based on the results of numerical analysis of front door outer panel forming, this paper evaluates the applicability of simulation results to the real die making for automotive body panels. Also, it attempts to select an optimal die manufacturing process including design, machining and tryout. Lastly, it discusses the expected effects by adopting the selected process in a real stamping die manufacturing facility.

  • This paper presents the seismic performance of seven beam-column joints with an eccentricity between beam depths under cyclic loadings. The failure modes of the panel zone were divided into two types. One was the shear force failure that appeared in the entire panel zone (SFEPZ), the other was the shear force failure that appeared in the partial panel zone (SFPPZ). Seven finite element models were established using multi-scale methods. Compared with the experimental specimens, the hysteretic loops exhibited a similar trend. The multi-scale models could accurately simulate the experimental results. Furthermore, the calculation formulas of yield and plastic shear capacity of unequal-depth joints with outer annular stiffener were proposed.

  • The objective of this research works is to develop back panel dies of PDP TV with a large size. In order to design the geometry of the dies and an initial size of blank optimally, the finite element analysis has been carried out using AUTOFORM V4.2. The conner radius of the upper trimming area and the distance from the outer line of the blank holder to the outer line of the blank have been selected as design parameters to remove the wrinkling of the trimming area. The results of the analyses have been shown that a feasible product without wrinkles and skid lines can be obtained when the conner radius ranges from 6mm to 8mm and the distance lines in the range of 40-60mm. From the proposed design of the dies and an initial blank size, the final die set of the back panel has been successfully manufactured.

  • Heat generated from the electronic parts in PDP is undesirable physical properties. To attain optimal arrangement of the electronic parts in PDP, thermal flows in PDP should be analyzed. PIV measurement has been made to quantify the characteristics of the inner flows and outer flows of an actual PDP. The quantity of heat flux from PDP has been estimated using the PIV results. Measurement system consists of Ar-ion laser, CCD camera and an image grabber installed on a host computer.

  • This paper derives joint and conditional Lagrange multiplier tests based on Double-Length Artificial Regression(DLR) for testing functional form and/or the presence of individual(time) effect in a panel regression model. Small sample properties of these tests are assessed by Monte Carlo study, and comparisons are made with LM tests based on Outer Product Gradient(OPG). The results show that the proposed DLR based LM tests have the most appropriate finite sample performance.

  • Recently, the size of glass panel is increased to $1250 mm{\times}1100 mm{\times}0.7 mm$, whose mass is 2.65 kg, which requires much stiffer robot structure. In addition to the high stiffness, the robot hands and wrists for glass panel handling should have miller surface finishing of its outer surface to prevent particles and dusts from adhering on the surface. The maximum height of the robot structure should not be larger than 1500 mm because other automated guided vehicles (AGV) and transfer equipments have been designed within this size limit. The difference of maximum deflections of the four ends of the hands before and after loading the glass panel should be less than 2.0 mm. In this work, the robot hands and wrists for handling large glass panel displays were designed based on the axiomatic design using the finite element method along with optimization routine.

  • In this paper, we have performed 3-dimensional time-resolving measurement of the Ne light emitted from the cell of plasma display panel(PDP) as a function of the pressure using the scanned point detecting system. From the temporal behavior results, we could analyze the discharge behavior of panel with Ne-Xe(4%) mixing gas and 300 torr, 400 torr and 500 torr pressure. At the top view of panel, the discharge of 300 torr panel starts at the 634 ns and ends at the 722 ns. The emission duration time is about 90 ns. The discharge of 400 torr panel starts at the 682 ns and ends at the 786 ns. the emission duration time is about 100 ns. Also, the discharge of 500 torr panel starts at the 770 ns and ends at the 826 ns. the emission duration time is about 56 ns. The discharge moves from inner edge of cathode electrode to outer cathode electrode forming arc type. In the side view of 300 torr, 400 torr and 500 torr an emission shows that the light is detected up to 180${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 70${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height of barrier rib and the emission distribution of the 300 torr is wider than 400 torr, 500 torr.
