The degree of contamination on outdoor insulators is one of the most importance factor to determine the pollution level of outdoor insulation. Outdoor insulators in coastal are affected due to salty wind blowing from the seaside. The sea salt is known as the most dangerous pollutant. As known through the preceding study, the generation of salt pollutant and the pollution degree of outdoor insulators have a close relation in accordance with meteorological conditions, such as temperature, humidity, dewpoint, wind velocity and wind direction. Therefore, at first, we have analyzed relation between meteorological conditions and contaminants for development of prediction method. In this paper, we have investigated a statistical estimation technique based on actual data for equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD) of outdoor insulators which were installed in Kochang field test substation with multiple linear regression analysis.

Outdoor spaces are used for recreation, rest area, and night activities of residents. By these tendency, outdoor space is recognized as a very important space in residental areas. However, outdoor space is frequently used at night but lighting plan for these spaces is not suited for the selection of luminairce, arrangement of luminaires and planing of illuminance. From this point of view, this paper investigated the essence of light in outdoor space, analyzed different outdoor luminous environment and performed simulations. This paper finally suggested recommended level of illuminance and lighting plan of such spaces.

We provide methods to simulate noise propagation for an outdoor environment. Forward tracing method traces sound vectors from sources to receivers while geometry based computation finds all possible sound propagation between sources and receivers geometrically. We discuss defects in relying on a forward tracing method, and suggest a geometry based method. Geometry based method considers all possible direct and indirect(propagation via limited number of reflections) sound propagation saving computational time compared to forward sound tracing. Our simulation results are visualized using VRML(Virtual Reality Modeling Language).

To investigate schemes of secret key generation from Ultra-wideband (UWB) channel, we study a statistical characterization of UWB outdoor channel for a campus playground scenario based on extensive measurements. Moreover, an efficient secret key generation mechanism exploiting multipath relative delay is developed, and verification of this algorithm is conducted in UWB Line-of-sight (LOS) outdoor channels. For the first time, we compare key-mismatch probability of UWB indoor and outdoor environments. Simulation results demonstrate that the number of multipath proportionally affects key generation rate and key-mismatch probability. In comparison to the conventional method using received signal strength (RSS) as a common random source, our mechanism achieves better performance in terms of common secret bit generation. Simultaneously, security analysis indicates that the proposed scheme can still guarantee security even in the sparse outdoor physical environment free of many reflectors.

An efficient urban outdoor localization and navigation system is proposed for car-like robots. First an accurate outdoor localization method is suggested using line/arc features and 2.5D map matching with LRFs (Laser Range Finders), which can reduce the number of singular cases and increase accuracy. Also, path generation, path tracking, and path modification algorithms are proposed for navigation. All these algorithms are implemented on an electric scooter to construct an autonomous urban outdoor localization and navigation system. Experiments reveal the practicality of the proposed system.
Purpose: Recently, many public office buildings which were built by curtain wall increased rapidly, but the results of the investigation of the government, these buildings have been found that the heating and cooling thermal load is high, and showed low energy efficiency. Method: To evaluate the effects by applying outdoor louver and indoor blind, which can control solar radiation in order to reduce the heating and cooling load of public office building which was built by glass curtain wall. The heating and cooling load was calculated via Energyplus, building and outdoor louver, indoor blind were modeled by Google sketchup connected to Energyplus. Result: The results of this study were as follows; the case of applying various outdoor louver, the heating and cooling load all decreased as compared to the case without applying outdoor louver, the case of applying indoor blind, the heating and cooling load decreased as compared to the case without applying indoor blind, but indoor blind showed low energy performance comparing outdoor louver.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare different kinds of outdoor walking shoes in terms of muscle fatigue and ground reaction force on walking, and to provide foundational data for developing and choosing outdoor walking shoes that fit the users. Method: The study subjects were 30 healthy men. The experiment was conducted by using outdoor walking shoes with different inner and outer harnesses of the midsole, and shapes of the outsole. For data collection, electromyography was used to measure the muscle fatigue of the anterior tibial muscle and gastrocnemii, which contribute to the dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the ankle joint, and the biceps muscle of the thigh and lateral great muscles, which contribute to the flexion and extension of the knee joint. A GRF measurement device was used to measure the X, Y, and Z axes. Results: In the type A outdoor walking shoes, regarding the hardness of the midsole, the inner part was soft, while the outer part was hard. The vertical ground reaction force was the lowest, which means least impact while walking and light load to the knees and ankles. The type C outdoor walking shoes were intended to provide a good feel in wearing the shoes. The tibialis anterior, biceps femoris, and gastrocnemii indicate low fatigue, which means that during a long-distance walk, it will minimize the fatigue in the muscles of the lower limbs. Conclusion: To sum up the study results, the different types of outdoor walking shoes indicate their unique characteristics in the biomechanical comparison and analysis. However, the difference was not statistically significant. Thus, a systematic and constant follow-up research should be conducted to cope with expanding market for outdoor walking shoes. Lastly, this study is expected to present foundational data and directions for developing outdoor walking shoes.
It is difficult to determine the outdoor toxic level of hazardous chemicals that are leaked in the building, since there are no efficient ways to calculate how much percentage of the leaked chemicals is released into the outdoor atmosphere. In address to these problems, we propose a reasonable box model that can quantitatively evaluate the mass rate of the indoor chlorine leakage into the outside of the building. The proposed method assumes that the indoor chlorine leakage is fully mixed with the indoor air, and then the mixture of the chlorine and indoor air is exfiltrated into the outside of the building through effective leakage areas of the building. It is found that the exfiltration rate of the mixture of the chlorine and indoor air is strongly dependent on the temperature difference between inside and outside the building than the atmospheric wind speed. As compared with a conventional method that uses a vague mitigation factor, our method is more effective to evaluate the outdoor toxic threat zone of the chlorine that are leaked in the building, because it can consider the degree of airtight of the building in the evaluation of the threat zone.

The energy conservation is one of the most important issues in recent years. Especially, the energy conservation through improved control strategies is one of the most highly possible area to be implemented in the near future. The energy conservation of the ice storage system can be accomplished through the improved control strategies. A real time building load prediction algorithm was developed. The expected highest and the lowest outdoor temperature of the next day were used to estimate the next day outdoor temperature profile. The measured dry bulb temperature and the measured building load were used to estimate system parameters by using the on-line weighted recursive least square method. The estimated hourly outdoor temperatures and the estimated hourly system parameters were used to predict the next day hourly building loads. In order to see the effectiveness of the building load prediction algorithm, two different types of building models were selected and analysed. The simulation results show less than 1% in error for the prediction of the next day building loads. Therefore, this algorithm may successfully be used for the development of improved control algorithms of the ice storage system.

This paper presents an approach for the prediction of optimal heating load using a diagonal recurrent neural networks(DRNN) and data base system of outdoor temperature. In the DRNN, a dynamic backpropagation(DBP) with delta-bar-delta teaming method is used to train an optimal heating load identifier. And the data base system is utilized for outdoor temperature prediction. Compared to other kinds of methods, the proposed method gives better prediction performance of heating load. Also a hardware for the controller is developed using a microprocessor. The experimental results show that prediction enhancement for heating load can be achieved with the proposed method regardless of the its inherent nonlinearity and large time constant.
