The population growth along with the urbanization, has caused more problems in many public areas, such as subway airport terminals, hospital, etc. Many surveillance systems have been installed in the public areas, but not all of those can be monitored in real-time, because the operators that observe the monitors are very small compared with the number of the monitors. For example, the observer can miss some crucial accidents or detect after considerable delays. Thus, intelligent surveillance system for preventing the accidents are needed, such as Intelligent Surveillance Systems. in this paper, we propose a new crowd density estimation method which aims at estimating moving crowd using images from surveillance cameras situated in outdoor locations. The moving crowd is estimated from the area where using optical flow. The edge information is also used as feature to measure the crowd density, so we improve the accuracy of estimation of crowd density. A multilayer neural network is designed to classify crowd density into 5 classes. Finally the proposed method is experimented with PETS 2009 images.

We propose an edge-preserving transmission estimation by comparing the patch-based dark channel and the pixel-based dark channel near the edge, in order to improve the quality of outdoor images deteriorated by conditions such as fog and smog. Moreover, we propose a refinement that applies the Guided Image Filtering (GIF), a kind of edge-preserving smoothing filtering methods, to edges using Laplacian operation for natural restoration of image objects and backgrounds, so that we can dehaze a single image and improve the visibility effectively. Experimental results carried out on various outdoor hazy images that show the proposed method has less computational complexity than the conventional methods, while reducing distortion such as halo effect, and showing excellent dehazing performance. In It can be confirmed that the proposed method can be applied to various fields including devices requiring real-time performance.
When dealing with outdoor images in a variety of computer vision applications, the presence of shadow degrades performance. In order to understand the information occluded by shadow, it is essential to remove the shadow. To solve this problem, in many studies, involves a two-step process of shadow detection and removal. However, the field of shadow detection based on CNN has greatly improved, but the field of shadow removal has been difficult because it needs to be restored after removing the shadow. In this paper, it is assumed that shadow is detected, and shadow-less image is generated by using original image and shadow mask. In previous methods, based on CGAN, the image created by the generator was learned from only the aspect of the image patch in the adversarial learning through the discriminator. In the contrast, we propose a novel method using a discriminator that judges both the whole image and the local patch at the same time. We not only use the residual generator to produce high quality images, but we also use joint loss, which combines reconstruction loss and GAN loss for training stability. To evaluate our approach, we used an ISTD datasets consisting of a single image. The images generated by our approach show sharp and restored detailed information compared to previous methods.

In this paper, we carried out quality assessment and analysis of stereoscopic 3D Television pictures according to ITU-R contribution and recommendation by rating scales using DSCQS (Double-Stimuli Continuous Quality Scale) method. The evaluation results show that overall quality and sharpness of stereoscopic pictures revealed almost no difference compared to cases of mono pictures as to natural outdoor scenes, graphic images, and indoor scenes (about 3.0 above ~ 4.0), but depth perception and sensation of reality of stereoscopic images exhibit better quality performance over mono images as indicated more than 4.0 out of 5.0 grade. Evaluation results should be considered as human factors such as disparity when shooting and/or editing 3DTV.

Dark channel prior means that, for undistorted outdoor images, at least one color channel of a pixel or its neighbors have values close to 0, and thus the prior can be used to estimate the amount of distortion for given distorted images. In other words, if an image is distorted by blur, its dark channel values are averaged with neighbor pixel values and thus increase. This paper proposes a method that estimates blur strengths by analyzing the variation of dark channel values caused by blur. Through experiments with images distorted by Gaussian and horizontal motion blur with given strengths, the usefulness of the proposed method is verified.
In this study, the change of critical elements of the design evaluation was investigated during two decades at the architectural competition which was held nationwide in Germany. Specifically, the periods of investigation span both from July 1989 to June 1990 and from July 2009 to June 2010. The results of the analysis show that the cost of construction, the maintenance cost, the design of facade and the energy conservation are being magnified for the new important elements. The images of buildings and the economic aspects are meant to be high. The frequency of the critical elements for interior spaces is approximately two times more important than those for the forms and outdoor spaces. Overall, many juries of the architectural competition in Germany were interested in the elements for interior spaces. The field of function accounts for roughly the half of four basic architectural fields such as function, others, aesthetic and construction fields. The critical elements are required persistently such as context, Circulation, organization of space, form, landscape and outdoor space design, arrangement of building, cost of construction, function, design of facade, location of main entrance. These items are regarded as the most important elements of the design evaluation at the competition. Knowing the change of critical elements of the design evaluation, we can understand the trend of architecture in Germany. The results of this study can be applied in Korea to develop the critical elements of design.

Schools have developed together with local communities, as leading public buildings that represent local communities. Most elementary schools are located in walking distance, so that makes it possible to maintain close relationships with local residents. This study examine outside space where the school buildings are restructured for new images through public park project. The results of this research as follows. 1st, Public park project of school facilities is charge of key role to improve urban image. 2nd, Public park project of school facilities promote environmental, social and educational participation of school members. 3rd, We need to develop a outside space plan and to gather diverse opinions before we start on the Public park project of school facilities. 4th, It is important to maintain the space desirable through sharing of roles by members of schools and local communities. Public park project of school facilities has to be the center of participation, process, commune and practical use.

Ihis landscape design was proposed for the Remodeling for the National Theater of Korea Competition. Today, the National Theater of Korea, located in Jangchoongfong, Joong-gu, Seoul, asks plans for renovation. The landscape design for the remodeling of the theater is conducted as part of comprehensive programs for its renovation. The Government sought design proposals through a design competition in April, 2002. The authors proposed a landscape design for remodeling the National Theater of Korea and won first place in the competition. The landscape design covers the following a survey of the present status, a site analysis, a schematic design, and design, development. In the authors'design, heavens, humans, earth and nature are symbolically expressed within the site. The outdoor spaces of the National Theater of Korea are organically composed of the following low spaces : 1) a field of creation; 2) a field of recreation; 3) a field of meeting; and 4) a field of contemplation. The field of creation consists of a main entrance, spaces for public performance and plays, spaces with symbolic water features, and resting areas. The field of recreation is composed of various exhibition spaces. The field of meeting consists of traditional Korean-style gardens and an outdoor cafeteria. The field of contemplation features lawns, grasses and trees, and provides an area for pedestrian strolling. The outdoor spaces of the National Theater of Korea would produce an atmosphere suited to a cultural and artistic place. In the spaces, people would perceive a unique sense of place through various types of fountains, pergolas, columns, walls, light poles and bollards. An example of the true meaning of a cultural space and a resting place is provided in these spaces. The renovated National Theater of Korea would be a new type of theater with regional context, cultural meaning, spatial identity, various amenities with symbolic images, function and beauty.

With the increasing demands of 3D spatial information in urban environment, the importance of point clouds generation techniques have been increased. In particular, for as-built BIM, the point clouds with the high accuracy and density is required to describe the detail information of building components. Since the terrestrial LiDAR has high performance in terms of accuracy and point density, it has been widely used for as-built 3D modelling. However, the high cost of devices is obstacle for general uses, and the image-based 3D reconstruction technique is being a new attraction as an alternative solution. This paper compares the image-based 3D reconstruction technique and the terrestrial LiDAR in point of establishing the as-built BIM of outdoor structures. The point clouds generated from the image-based 3D reconstruction technique could roughly present the 3D shape of a building, but could not precisely express detail information, such as windows, doors and a roof of building. There were 13.2~28.9 cm of RMSE between the terrestrial LiDAR scanning data and the point clouds, which generated from smartphone and DSLR camera images. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that the image-based 3D reconstruction can be used in drawing building footprint and wireframe, and the terrestrial LiDAR is suitable for detail 3D outdoor modeling.

In this paper, a view point tracking system has been realized for outdoor augmented reality including broad area monitoring. Since the surroundings of the moving view point are changing, it is necessary to track the position and observation moment of the view point system for consistency between real and virtual images. For this reason, the GPS(Global Positioning System) is applied to the realized system for tracking the information on position and direction of the moving system. In addition, an optical position tracking system that is able to track view point in a limited area is used, because the local tracking system has to trace the image variation, seen to the observer in a moving vehicle, at a particular position and time. It was found that the realized outdoor augmented reality system, which combined the virtual information tracked in real time with the real image, can be very practical in various application area.
