Public outdoor spatial environment and its convenient facilities are playing an important role in providing space for various student activities in university campus. Previous studies have shown that many socio-demographic-economic students' background and motivation have impacted the level of academic achievement. Moreover, research also contended that school facilities at some points also influenced students' academic performance. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between the level of academic achievement and satisfaction of various spatial environment through survey. For that purpose, one university campus was selected and evaluation indexes were categorized into five major components of physical and experimental environment, later supported by factor analysis. Correlation analysis found that extracted factors were significantly interrelated to academic achievement. Further, regression analysis also explored sense of belonging as major predictor of academic achievement. Finally the study suggested that campus plan be approached carefully, because such experimental environment as diverse club activities at outdoor environment is a key element to academic achievement even though rated low scores in satisfaction.
It is required impressive expression of urban night environment that makes city as the safe pleasant, convenient place for the economic activity, cultural pleasure and landmarks. This study aims to establish the proper direction to the outdoor lighting in Seoul by analyzing and comparing the lighting situation and policies among Seoul, Shanghai and Yokohama. 1986 Asian Game and 1988 Olympic Game became very important role of activation of outdoor lighting in Korea. Then, outdoor lighting were facilitated in the cultural heritages and bridges along Han river. Millenium Light Plan, Outdoor Lighting Field of Seoul Architectural Award, 2002 Lightscape Local Plan, hosting 2002 World Cup have been good opportunities for the improvement of outdoor lighting in Seoul. In China, outdoor lighting was introduced to the city of Shanghai according to the orders of the president in 1988. Outdoor lighting of Shanghai have created unique lighting with beautiful color and intensive brightness under the direction of city government. Outdoor lighting of Shanghai needs the standard of lighting design and improvement of lighting facilities. Outdoor lighting was introduced to Japan with 1964 Tokyo Olympic games. Urban outdoor lighting plan was carried out in Yokohama in 1986. In Yokohama, outdoor lighting of civilian and public facilities have been harmonized. And the city government of Yokohama established the committee of promotion of outdoor lighting in its government to support and manage the outdoor lighting with corporation of civilian organization. Due to the lack of available site in urban setting outdoor space in elementary schools are getting smaller and tend to be replaced by indoor spaces. Focusing on courtyard, piloti space and roof space, this study analyzed the current condition and usage of the outdoor spaces in the urban mini-schools based on the analysis of architectural drawing, interview, survey, and observation. Following issues are found for appropriate planning for outdoor spaces in the urban mini-schools. Firstly, roof space needs to be coordinated with the physical education and outdoor class curriculum and should be planned separately for quiet activities. Secondly, the piloti space should be planned as an independent space rather than a connection between classroom and outdoor space, with appropriate surveillance from teacher's space for the lower graders. Thirdly, courtyard space, typical space in urban mini school surrounded by densely arranged buildings, should be thermally controlled for outdoor class or resting with appropriate screen from noise to keep quiet atmosphere.

Nowadays, the concept of outdoor campus is different from the past. U-Campus with a well-developed high-speed computer network is no longer a constraint on the campus interior and exterior spaces. From this point of view, today's large-scale university outdoor spaces need to be changed from a simple green space. The university campus outdoor spaces need to be changed into a new concept space. This study analyzed the changes in academic activities and preferences of college students who are users of university campus outdoor spaces and it is aimed at space planning that reflects the preference. The university campus should be remodified through changes in students' behaviors. Participants in this study were four different departments students (Social science, Physical education, Natural science and Engineering). The preference results of 17 items were analyzed. As a result of this preference analysis, we found that there is a difference in preference among students belonging to four different departments students. In conclusion, this study will propose that the preferences of each college should be considered in planning the outdoor rest spaces of university campus.
This study has examined layout of communal outdoor space and welfare facilities in the nation's very first senior apartment complex in Segok-dong, Gangnam-gu that has been developed by Seoul City. In order for this space to play a role as a center of communication: 1) A center space of community should be created at the point of intersection of main moving lines of pedestrians. 2) Hierarchical area should be set up between main moving lines of walking and communal outdoor space. 3) It should be designed in a way to reflect demands of seniors and be accommodated their activities and behaviors. 4) It should be functionally connected to local infrastructure facilities so that it can promote social exchanges among seniors. Points to be considered in welfare facilities: 1) They should be placed at the center of the complex to provide convenience to all seniors. 2) Area of senior citizen center should be subject to flexible legal regulation in light of the unique characteristics of the Complex. 3) in case that welfare facilities are installed in the same space, intermediate space is required to alleviate collision between private space and public space. 4) Senior assistance facilities should put more emphasis on running programs that make good use of the space than on securing the space itself.

This paper is to propose a design possibility that incorporates participatory process and also to emphasize the participatory process applied to the planning of outdoor playground space open to the neighboring community. Community design based on the participation method can be understood as an attitude about a force for change in the creation and management of environments for people who are the major users of them. Planning for outdoor space is an integral part of school education and a vital component of child development. For the design of outdoor space of Samyang Elementary School it first needs to examine the current and emerging needs of students, teachers and parents as community residents through the participatory design method. A series of workshops and interviews are taken to identify dreams and ideal spaces of each group. An assessment of existing school spaces and design possibility of reprogrammed outdoor spaces are proposed to match the major demands of participants. Selected outdoor places are chosen and designed to accommodate options for various play settings and to make the school pleasant places where members of the neighborhood can gather for relaxation in restful surroundings.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the difference in facilities of natural recreation forests developed by public and private body to answer the research that what is the difference in development of natural recreation forest between public and private developer\ulcorner After reviewing the literatures, developer's decision-making and motivation of investment, and the planning process of natural recreation forest, we had constructed th conceptual framework and have found the hypothesis of this research. Using data on development status of natural recreation forests and questionnaire surveying of 625 visitors from 9 among 72 natural recreation forests in Korea, We analyzed the data through the comparison of quantity of facilities per 1000 visitors and logistic regression method for quality of facilities. We have found that 1) the six facilities have been turned out to be statistically significant in determining the difference of public and private recreation forests. i.e., infrastructure including roads, maintenance and information and lodging and evacuation, indoor education, outdoor education, and shopping, 2) public recreation forests are well equipped such basic facility as roads, maintenance and information, lodging and evacuation while private recreation forests are well equipped such facility as indoor education, outdoor education, and shopping, and 3) the importance of such facility as roads, maintenance and information, lodging and evacuation, outdoor education, and shopping have been turned out to have 1.99, 2.26, 1.99, 3.01 and 2.24 times more important than that of indoor education, respectively. We can conclude that public recreation forest seems to be equipped with the facilities for sound recreational opportunities for general public, and private recreation forest turned out to have more facilities for pursuit of profits, installed basic facilities for user convenience and service, and special facilities for attracting user and raising revenue. Using the results of this research, we can make a guideline for a market positioning, and standards and provisions of natural recreation forests. We suggest that the relationship between user-satisfaction and recreation facility is needed to be examined in the future research.
