  • This letter analyzes the performance of a two-hop MIMO multiuser relay network with a fixed gain amplify-and-forward protocol and antenna selection at the transmitter and receiver. A new expression for the cumulative distribution function of the highest instantaneous end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio is derived. Based on the above result, closed-form expressions for outage probability and bit error rate are presented. Also, the diversity order of the system is determined. Finally, computer simulations are compared to the analytical results, and insights and observations are provided.

  • Power control (PC) on the reverse link of CDMA cellular system is important to increase system capacity. PC eliminates fluctuations in the received signal level and hence reduces the required signal-to-interference ratio. However, both perfect PC and imperfect PC depend on number of interferences as number of users, which by using smart antenna system can decrease number of interferences in any directions except interferences from the main beam direction. In this paper , number of elements in smart antenna system, which directly relates to the main beam pattern, is studied to find the effects on the outage probability , bit energy-to-interference density ratio (Eb/Io) and the capacities of both perfect and imperfect PC.

  • Spectrum leasing for cognitive radio (CR) networks is an effective way to improve the spectrum utilization. This paper presents an opportunistic relaying based spectrum leasing for CR networks where the primary users lease their frequency band to the cognitive users. The cognitive users act as relays for the primary users to improve the channel capacity, and this improved capacity is used for the transmission of secondary users' data. We show that the cognitive users can use a significant portion of the communication resource of primary networks while maintaining a fixed target data rate for the primary users. Moreover, the primary network is also benefited by the cooperating cognitive users in terms of outage probability. Information theoretic analysis and simulation results are presented to evaluate the performances of both primary and cognitive networks.

  • In this paper, we consider a joint beamforming and jamming design to enhance physical layer security against potential multiple eavesdroppers in a multiple-input and single-output cellular broadcast channel. With perfect channel state information at the base station, we propose various design approaches to improve the secrecy of the target user. Among the proposed approaches, the combined beamforming of maximum ratio transmission and zero-forcing transmission with a combination of maximum ratio jamming and zero-forcing jamming (MRT + ZFT with MRJ + ZFJ) shows the best security performance because it utilizes the full transmit antenna dimensions for beamforming and jamming with an efficient power allocation. The simulation results show that the secrecy rate of this particular proposed approach is better than the rates of the considered conventional approaches with quality-of-service and outage probability constraints.

  • This paper proposes a novel resource allocation scheme which enables to guarantee the quality of experience (QoE) for handovers from femtocell to macrocell and vice versa, and between femtocells in the overlaid macro-femto networks. The proposed scheme guarantees QoE to a certain extent during handover by utilizing a fixed amount of radio resource reserved in advance for the dedicated use to support QoE. We take both the type of the handover and the temporal sensitiveness characteristics of user services into consideration in order to support QoE. Performance of our scheme is analyzed by simulation with respect to the outage probability and total throughput.

  • In this letter, we consider a new packet scheduling algorithm for an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access/frequency division duplex (OFDMA/FDD)-based system, e.g., mobile broadband wireless access or high-speed portable internet systems, in which the radio resources of both time and frequency slots are dynamically shared by all users under a proper scheduling policy. Our design objective is to increase the number of non-realtime service (e.g., WWW) users that can be supported in the system, especially when the minimum bit rate requirement is imposed on them. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can provide a significant improvement in the average outage probability performance for the NRT service, i.e., significantly increasing the number of NRT users without much compromising of the cell throughput.

  • We consider a two-hop multiple-relay network implemented with opportunistic decode-and-forward cooperative strategy, where the first hop and second hop links experience different fading (Rayleigh and Rician). We derive the exact expressions of end-to-end outage probability and analyze the approximate results in high signal-to-noise ratio region. The analysis shows that the same diversity order can be achieved even in different mixed fading environments. Simulation results are provided to verify our analysis.

  • In this paper we propose a resource management scheme which allocates hierarchical resources stepwise based on the users' QoS requirement of each service in the macro-femtocell overlaid LTE-Advanced network. Our proposed scheme adjusts the transmission rate to the minimum which guarantees the allowable minimum requirement of delay for each user service. In this way it minimizes the interference on the adjacent channels and it is able to increase the resource utilization efficiency. Simulation results show that our scheme provides better performances than the conventional one in respect of the outage probability and data transmission throughput.

  • In this paper we propose the resource allocation scheme for the overlaid macro-femtocell networks, which considers the type of handovers such as the inter-macrocell, macrocell-to-femtocell, femtocell-to-macrocell, or inter-femtocell in order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) and expand the accommodation capacity. Our proposed scheme takes into account the movement of mobile terminals, the QoS degradation, or the load control which trigger handovers in the overlaid networks, before it allocates resources dynamically. Moreover it considers QoS requirements of realtime or non-realtime mobile multimedia services such as video communication, Video on Demand (VoD) and dataa services. Simulation results show that our scheme provides better performances than the conventional one with respect to the outage probability, data transmission throughput and handover failure rate.

  • In a COMA system, the capacity is variable and mainly depends on multiple access interference. The multiple access interference has a deep relationship with transmitted or received power. The capacity of COMA2000 system is considered to be limited by the forward link capacity. In this paper, we show that the forward link cell load can be represented by the total transmitted power of base station and we propose a forward link call admission control (CAC) strategy for COMA2000 system. The proposed call admission scheme adopts the rate control algorithm for data call. This call admission scheme enables the system to utilize radio resource dynamically by controlling data rate according to the cell load status, and enhance the system throughput and grade of service (GoS). quality of service(QoS) such as blocking and outage probability.
