  • At present, the ground transportation system is saturated in many countries including Korea. To overcome this problem, many researches of developing a roadable personal air vehicle (PAV) are being carried out to alleviate traffic congestion and to accomplish door-to-door mobility through three-dimensional traffic system. In this study, the thrust-to-weight ratio, the wing loading, and the power-to-weight ratio that are major design parameters for the sizing of roadable PAVs were calculated under the constraints of ground roll, climb rate, maximum cruise speed, service ceiling, stall speed. Also, in the sizing process, the study was conducted to determine the design point using the graphs of thrust-to-weight ratio, wing loading, power-to-weight ratio, and brake horse power for the mission profiles considering domestic environments and the FAR PART 23 which is the GA class aircraft certification standard.

  • These days land vehicle navigation system is a subject of great interest. The GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) is the most popular technology for out door positioning. However, The GNSS is incapable of providing high accuracy and reliable positioning. For that reason, we applied Network-RTK in vehicle to improve the accuracy of GNSS performance. In this network-RTK mode, the GNSS error are significantly decreased. In this paper, we explain ntrip client program for network-RTK mode and show the result of experiments in various environments.

  • In this paper, to solve localization problem for out-door navigation of robotic vehicles, a particle filter based 3D object recognition framework that can estimate the pose of a building or its entrance is presented. A particle filter framework of multiple evidence fusion and model matching in a sequence of images is presented for robust recognition and pose estimation of 3D objects. The proposed approach features 1) the automatic selection and collection of an optimal set of evidences 2) the derivation of multiple interpretations, as particles representing possible object poses in 3D space, and the assignment of their probabilities based on matching the object model with evidences, and 3) the particle filtering of interpretations in time with the additional evidences obtained from a sequence of images. The proposed approach has been validated by the stereo-camera based experimentation of 3D object recognition and pose estimation, where a combination of photometric and geometric features are used for evidences.

  • This paper describes Listening Decision Aid Simulator (LDAS) to provide a decision-supporting tool that can reproduce real-like listening situations focused on the duty officer's two ears. The sound propagation mechanism from a whistle to listener's two ears is established at first, and the spatial transfer coefficients of a bridge door are measured at training vessel. Then, the construction works with the spatial transfer coefficients and its evaluation experiments with five collision accidents are carried out. As results from tests, the five cases can be judge by LDAS; it led to the insight of practical use of LDAS as one of the decision supporting system in collision accidents.

  • This study is concerned with the applicable countermeasures for securing safety of ship from piracy attacks. For improvements and countermeasures, we analyzed the recent anti-piracy trends. In spite of international community's various activities for safety navigating, the number of piracy in Gulf of Aden and in the vicinity of Somali waters has been increasing dramatically in the last few years, so has the number of piracy on Korean vessels. In case of piracy attack which based on Somalia, it continues constantly and widely not only near shore, but coastal and oceanic waters. This study figures out the limitations of international community's efforts including military and legal improvements. There are no studies concerning the countermeasures of bridge protection by piracy. This study suggested the additional installation of outside door of bridge as well as the adjustment of piracy operation area(POA) of Korea navy.

  • The paper describes measurement techniques for an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship's bridge stimulated by a whistle sound The response sounds, according to the opening-shutting conditions of bridge doors for Training Ship ‘SAENURI’, are measured by B&K 2260D equipment, and then the frequency responses are extracted by B&K 7830 software. To evaluate the measured transfer characteristic, the 128th order FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters, containing the different frequency characteristics, are constructed based on the frequency sampling-based design method Using evaluation indexes with six scales, psychological assessments by five subjects are carried out with test sounds which are obtained from convolving the source signal with FIR filters. As results of tests, the test sounds gives $A_S$ 3.3∼4.7 which means the psychological sense of ‘it is almost similar sound as original ones in a real world’, and thus it is clearly seen that the proposed method can be used for the measurement of an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship’s bridge.

  • AGVS (Automated Guided Vehicle System) is a core technology of logistics automation which automatically moves specific objects or goods within a certain work space. Conventional AGVS generally requires the in-door localization system and each AGV equips expensive sensors such as laser, magnetic, inertial sensors for the route recognition and automatic navigation. thus the high installation cost is inevitable and there are many restrictions on route(path) modification or expansion. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a cost-effective and scalable AGV based on a light-weight pattern recognition technique. The proposed pattern recognition technology not only enables autonomous driving by recognizing the route(path), but also provides a technique for figuring out the loc ation of AGV itself by recognizing the simple patterns(bar-code like) installed on the route. This significantly reduces the cost of implementing AGVS as well as benefiting from route modification and expansion. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique, we first implement a pattern recognition algorithm on a light-weight MCU(Micro Control Unit), and then verify the results by implementing an MCU_controlled AGV prototype.
