The age and growth of brown sole, Pleuronectes herzensteini were investigated from samples randomly collected in the East Sea of Korea from April, 2003 to March, 2004. Ages were determined from annuli in otoliths and annuli were formed between March and May once a year. Also, main spawning period were estimated between March and April, thus rings were considered as annual marks. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated from a non-linear regression method were $L_{\infty}=37.2cm$, K=0.131/year, $t_0=-2.008years$ for female and $L_{\infty}=28.3cm$, K=0.177/year, $t_0=-2.135years$ for male, and the growth between female and male was different.
Age and growth of spotted halibut, Verasper variegatus were determined using samples collected from commercial catch in the Southern Sea, Korea. Age was determined by counting the otolith annuli which were clearly defined between translucent and opaque zones, and formed between February and March. Growth of spotted halibut was expressed by the von Bertalanffy's equation as $L_t=71.07(1-e^{{\cdot}0.3036(t-0.1173)})$ for females and $L_t=57.44(1-e^{-0.2931(t+0.1590)})$ for males. Almost all the fish examined were younger than 3 years old. The oldest fish was 6 years old in female and 4 years old in male.

The vestibular system located in the inner ear controls reflex body posture and movement, It has the semicircular canals sensing an angular acceleration and the otolith organs sensing a linear acceleration. With this organic signal, medical doctor decide if a person has disease or not. To obtain this data, a precision stimular system is considered. Robust control is needed to obtain eye signals induced by off-vertical axis rotation because of an unbalanced load produced by tilting the axis of the system upto 30 degrees. In this study, off-vertical axis rotatory system with visual stimulation system are developed. This system is consisted of head mounted display for generating horizontal, vertical, and three dimensional stimulus patterns. Furthermore wireless recording system using RF modem is considered for noiseless data transmission. Detailed data was described.

Age and growth of Brown croaker Miichthys miiuy were estimated using right sagittal otoliths of 327 fish specimens from August 2015 to July 2016 in Korea. Annual rings in otoliths were formed from March to June once a year. The oldest specimens were 11 yr in female and 9 yr in male. Brown croaker began spawning in September and showed a peak in October. Total length and body weight relationships showed no significant difference between females and males (P>0.05), and can be expressed as $BW=1.15{\times}10^{-5}{\times}TL^{2928}$ ($R^2=0.98$). Estimated von Bertalanffy growth curve was $L_t=182.4(1-e^{-0.067(t+1.754)})$ ($R^2=0.96$).

Characteristics of age and growth of the black rockfish, Sebastes inermis sampled in the Jeonnam Marine Ranching Area (JMRA) around Geumo Islands south of Yeosu were investigated using 642 otoliths from March 2009 to February 2010. The opaque zone was formed in September once a year and hence it was used as an annulus. The parturient period was December to January, and therefore the duration from fertilization to the complete formation of the opaque zone was nineteen months. From the parameters calculated using the average length when the year ring was formed, growth of S. inermis were expressed by von Bertalanffy growth equation as $L_t$=23.267 ($1-e^{-0.4406(t+1.1971)}$) for females and $L_t$=22.030 ($1-e^{-0.5312(t+0.6834)}$) for males when is total length in age t. Through the growth equations, the maximum length was determined as 23.27cm for females and 22.03cm for males and the growth factor as 0.4406/yr and 0.5312/yr, respectively. Finally, the growth of female S. inermis is larger than the one of male S. inermis.

Age and growth of stone flounder kareius bicolortus in approaches to Kyongyolbiyolto of Yellow sea were studied by otolith reading of 248 fishes from September 1992 to August 1993. Examination of the ourter margins of the otoliths showed that th hyaline zone as annulus was formed once a year and that its formation was completed at the end of the spawning season(Jan. to Feb.). Growth of the fish was expressed by the von Bertalanffy's equation as Lt=313.7[1-exp{-0.463(t+0.0704)}] for males and Lt=478.6[1-exp{-0.286(t-0.1619)}] for females, where Lt is body length in mm and It is age in years. It was found that growth of males and females differs, with the females showing a higher growth than the males. Growth in body weight was also examined. The oldest fish were seven years old for males and females.
Age, hatching date and growth in length of juvenile Limanda yokohamae were determined by analysis of microstructure in otoliths. Monthly samples were collected by a beach seine in the shallow water off Gaduk-do from January to December, 1998. The juveniles were collected between February and April. Mean total length was $22.6{\pm}1.77\;mm$ ($\pm$SD) in February, $23.6{\pm}3.86\;mm$ in March, and $38.2{\pm}8.38\;mm$ in April. The core of otoliths ranged from 18 to $21\;{\mu}m$ in diameter and the growth increments were deposited concentrically from the hatching mark. The secondary growth layer began to appear at the 48 to 56-th increment. It indicates that L. yokohamae larvae may be completed the metamorphosis at this time of ca. 52 d after hatching, and moved into the shallow water for demersal stage. The hatching date calculated from the number of daily increments was between late November and early January, showing a peak in December. The total length (L, mm) was related to otolith radius (R, ${\mu}m$); L=0.055 R+5.81 ($r^2=0.88$). The growth in total length was represented by the Gompertz growth curve; $L_t=3.39e^{4.51(1-e^{-0.0067t})}$ ($r^2=0.81$). Daily growth rate was 0.35 mm/d at the age of 70 d and increased up to 0.55 mm/d at the age of 120 d.

The age and growth of Pleurogrammus azonus in the coastal of Gangwon-do, East Sea were determined, from monthly samples of commercial catches, caught by the gill net and set net fishery from January to December in 2008. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) began to increase in September, and reached the maximum between November and December. After spawning GSI began to decrease from January. The annuli of P. azonus are formed once a year, with the boundary between opaque and translucent zones forming from December to January. The relationships between fork length (FL) and body weight (BW) were $BW=0.005FL^{3.240}$($R^2=0.963$) for females and $BW=0.006FL^{3.238}$($R^2=0.946$) for males. The FLs at annuli formation in otoliths were back-calculated from the otolith-length relationship and were adjusted to von Bertalanffy growth curves to $FL_t=70.54(1-{\exp}^{(-0.099(t+1.188))})$ for females and $FL_t=51.87(1-{\exp}^{(-0.135(t+1.697))})$ for males. Until the age of 3 years, males grew faster than females; however, from the age of 4 years, females grew faster than males. In the future, we want to study the relationship between early growth and water temperature changes in the East Sea.

Background: The black-chinned tilapia, Sarotherodon melanotheron, is the most abundant fish species in the Nakwa (an open lagoon) and Brenu (a closed lagoon) in the Central Region of Ghana. Aspects of the life history characteristics and the ecology of the fish populations in both lagoons were studied to assess the bio-ecological status of this important resource. Methods: Fish samples were obtained from fishermen that fish on the Nakwa and Brenu lagoons using cast, drag and gill nets. The age of the fish was assessed from otoliths analysis and its growth modelled following the von Bertalanffy growth function. Morphometric characteristics of the fish populations were analysed using power regression and ANOVA for parameters comparisons, and Student's t test to determine whether species grew isometrically. The percentage occurrence method was used to analyse the stomach contents of the fish. Results: A total of 382 fish samples from both lagoons were measured, comprising 209 from Nakwa lagoon and 176 from Brenu lagoon. The size and weight of fish samples ranged between 3.9-11.5 cm total length and 1.0-27.3 g for Nakwa Lagoon and 5.6-12.8 cm total length and 3.2-29.8 g for the Brenu Lagoon. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 12.04 cm and K = 2.76/year for the Nakwa Lagoon samples and L∞ = 13.44 cm and K = 3.27/year for Brenu Lagoon samples. Daily otolith incremental rate ranged from 0.01-0.03 mm per day to 0.01-0.02 mm per day for Nakwa and Brenu lagoons, respectively. Stomach content analysis of the fish samples revealed that the species are planktivorous and the range of food varied between the lagoons. Green algae were the most prevalent food item in the stomachs of the fish samples from Nakwa with the frequency of 69% whilst diatoms (80.5%) were most prevalent phytoplanktonic food item for the fish in Brenu lagoon. Conclusions: The estimates of asymptotic length for the species in both lagoons are close to known values of the species length at first sexual maturity and points to intensive fishing pressure. As a consequence, a comprehensive sample-based survey is required in both lagoons to derive estimates of management reference points. The results of the stomach content analysis are beneficial to the construction of diet matrix for ecosystem models of the two systems.
Oxygen isotopic composition(${\delta}^{18}O$) of walleye pollock, Theragra chalcogramma, otoliths were measured to investigate interannual and regional correlation with habitat temperature. Specimens were collected from fishermen in Korea and Japan between $1997{\sim}1999$, while seawater temperatures were obtained from Korean and Japanese Oceanographic Data Centers. Seawater temperature was generally lower off the eastern Korean Peninsula than off eastern Hokkaido(Japan). Sagittal otoliths were removed for measurement of ${\delta}^{18}O$ using a micro-drilling technique. In most cases, ${\delta}^{18}O$ and habitat temperature exhibited negative relationship in Korean and Japanese waters. Higher ${\delta}^{18}O$ was observed in Korean pollock compared to Japanese pollock. The marginal parts of otoliths exhibited higher ${\delta}^{18}O$ than cores from both regions. This is an indication that somatic growth of walleye pollock occurs in deeper and cooler waters. Interannual variation in ${\delta}^{18}O$ was also observed. Mean ${\delta}^{18}O$ values acquired from 1997 otoliths were lower(2.15%) than those of 1998(2.67%) and 1999 (2.65%) in Korean pollock. These measurements coincided with changes in observed temperature in Korean waters, in which mean seawater temperature was warmer in 1997 than in 1998 and 1999. In Japanese waters, mean seawater temperature was lowest in 1997, which coincided with highest ${\delta}^{18}O$ values in the same year.
