  • This paper deals with the suppression of subharmonic current oscillation of V/F controlled high speed induction motor drive in turbo blower applications. High speed induction motor has a relatively low stator impedance for high speed operation and therefore the dc link voltage ripple may result in subharmonic current oscillation at the steady state in high speed operation. This paper shows that the subharmonic oscillation is caused by the dc link voltage ripple and also proposes the suppression method, which generates the compensation voltage through the proportional current controller to reduce the subharmonic current oscillation. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed suppression method reduces the subharmonic current oscillation to the acceptable low level in turbo blower applications.

  • A laboratory experiment was made of a control of temperature oscillation in Czochralski convection. Numerical computation was also made to delineate the control of temperature oscillation. The suppression of temperature oscillation was achieved by varying the rotation rate of crystal rod ($\Omega=\Omega_0(1+A sin 2{\pi}ft/t_p)$), where A denotes the amplitude of rotation rate and f the frequency factor. Based on the inherent dimesionless time period of temperature oscillation ($t_p$), the suppression rate of temperature oscillation was characterized by the mixed convection parameter ($0.217{\leq}Ra/PrRe^2{\leq}1.658$). The optimal values of A and f were also scrutinized. To understand the suppression mechanism of temperature oscillation, the controls of isotherm($\theta$) and equi-vorticity($\omega$) were investigated.

  • The present study describes an investigation into the characteristics of combustion oscillation and its suppression instability of a silo type gas turbine combustor in commercial power plant. Combustion oscillation is occurred the combustor in near full load during operation. As a result of FFT analysis of the combustion dynamics, the frequency of the oscillation is analyzed as the 1'st longitudinal mode of acoustic resonance of the combustor. For suppress of the instability, combustion tuning with adjust of fuel valve schedule is carried out, which changes equivalent ratio of each burners. As the result, the oscillation is successfully reduced with meeting the level of NOx emission regulation.

  • The attachment of inducer in front of main impeller is a powerful method to improve cavitation performance. Cavitation surge oscillation, however, often occurs at partial flow rate and extremely low suction pressure. As the cavitation surge oscillation with low frequency of about 10 Hz occurs in a close relation between the inlet backflow cavitation and the growth of blade cavity into the throat section of blade passage, one method of installing an axi-asymmetrical plate upstream of inducer has been proposed to suppress the oscillation. The inlet flow distortion due to the axi-asymmetrical plate makes different elongations of cavities on all blades, which prevent the flow from becoming simultaneously unstable at all throat sections. In the present study, changes of the suppression effects with the axial distance between the inducer inlet and the plate and the changes with the blockage ratios of plate area to the cross-sectional area of inducer inlet are investigated for helical inducers with tip blade angles of $8^{\circ}$ and $14^{\circ}$. Then a conceivable application will be proposed to suppress the cavitation surge oscillation by installing axi-asymmetrical inlet plate.

  • This report describes the effect of optical delay on the suppression of the power transient excursion in a combined gain-controlled erbium-doped fiber amplifier with an internal optical feedback loop (OFL). A simple homogeneous model showed that the optical delay caused a phase change in the oscillation of the surviving and laser channels, which resulted in a reduction of the overall power transient excursion. In addition to the reduction, a real system with a 1528.7-nm OFL shifted the oscillation upward or downward according to channel removal or addition, whereas another one with a 1560.9-nm OFL did not. This different transient behavior reflected a control-wavelength dependence on optical automatic gain control, where spectral-hole burning dominated over relaxation oscillation for 1528.7 nm, and vice versa for 1560.9 nm.

  • The attachment of inducer in front of main impeller is a powerful method to improve cavitation performance; however, cavitation surge oscillation with low frequency occurs with blade cavity growing to each throat section of blade passage simultaneously. Then, one conceptual method of installing suction axi-asymmetrical plate has been proposed so as to keep every throat passage away from being unstable at once, and the effect on suppression of the oscillation were investigated. In the present study, cavitation behaviors in the inducer is observed with distributing multi-cameras circumferentially, recording simultaneously and reconstructing multi-photos on one plane field as moving a linear cascade. Observed results are utilized for discussion with other measuring results as casing wall pressure distribution. Then the suppression mechanism of oscillation by installing axi-asymmetrical inlet plate will be clarified in more details.

  • It was reviewed about the pressure oscillation on the inlet of turbo-pump at the moment of engine startup and shutdown. Specially, This research was performed how much is the effect of PSD(Pogo Suppression Device) about the pressure oscillation on the inlet of turbo-pump at the moment of engine startup and shutdown. For analysis, propellant tank PSD and Engine are modelled with Flowmaster which is the commercial 1D program. As the analysis results, even though the PSD is installed in the pipeline, the pressure drop or rising at the moment of engine startup and shutdown is same compared to the case without PSD. However, it was confirmed that PSD reduces the pressure oscillation of the high frequency band as the original purpose of PSD.

  • Effects of an orifice on suppression of pressure oscillation in a fluid feeding line are investigated numerically through the installation of an orifice inside the feeding line. Based on linear acoustic theory, acoustic-damping effect of an orifice is emphasized in this study. When an orifice is installed at the node of pressure oscillation corresponding to the anti-node of velocity oscillation, damping capacity is maximized. On the other hand, the orifice installed at the anti-node of pressure oscillation has little damping capacity. As the blockage ratio and thickness of an orifice increase in the feeding line, damping factor increases. The feeding line with smaller diameter has more damping capacity, but damping factor increases more appreciably with blockage ratio in the feeding line with larger diameter.

  • In this paper, RC snubber circuit design technology for oscillation suppression in half-bridge configuration of cascode gallium nitride (GaN) field effect transistors (FETs) is analyzed. A typical wide band-gap (WBG) device, cascode GaN FET, has excellent high-speed switching characteristics. However, due to such high-speed switching characteristics, a false turn-off problem is caused, and an RC snubber circuit is essential to suppress this. In this paper, the commonly used experimental-based RC snubber design technique and the RC snubber design technique using the root locus method are compared and analyzed. In the general method, continuous circuit changes are required until the oscillation suppression performance requirement is met based on experimental experience . However, in root locus method, the initial value can be set based on the non-oscillation R-C map. To compare the performance of the two aforementioned design methods, a simulation experiment and a switching experiment using an actual double pulse circuit are performed.

  • Damping characteristics of pressure oscillation induced by an orifice in fluid feeding line for are investigated numerically and experimentally. Assuming small pressure oscillation, acoustic damping effect of orifice is confirmed experimentally, and with the mean flow, damping characteristics of an orifice are investigated numerically. When an orifice is installed at the node of pressure oscillation corresponding to the anti-node of velocity oscillation, suppression of pressure oscillation is maximized and with the mean flow, the resonant frequency is decreased. And, it is found that the optimal position of an orifice for damping shouled be changed.
