  • We present the DC and RF characteristics of 100 nm gate length InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs metamorphic high electron mobility transistors (MHEMTs). We fabricated the T-gate with 100 nm foot print by using a positive resist ZEP520/P (MMA-MAA)/PMMA trilayer by double exposure method. The fabricated 100 nm MHEMT with a $70\;{\mu}m$ unit gate width and two fingers were characterized through do and rf measurements. The maximum drain current density of 465 mA/mm and extrinsic transconductance $(g_m)$ of 844 mS/mm were obtained with our devices. From rf measurements, we obtained the current gain cut-off frequency $(f_T)$ of 192 GHz, and maximum oscillation frequency $(f_{max})$ 310 GHz.

  • To understand the low frequency instability(LFI) characteristics in hybrid rockets combustion, effects of equivalence ratio variations on the phase shift between pressure and heat release oscillations were investigated by using the direct numerical simulation. The change in the equivalence ratio of the main chamber was simulated by the temperature and composition variation of the combustion gas introduced into the post-combustion chamber. In the results, additional combustion appeared along with vortex generation at the backward step, and combustion pressure and heat release oscillations were observed as the vortex moved. In addition, the results confirmed that the phase difference between the pressure and heat release oscillation shifts because of the changes in the propagation velocity of pressure wave as the temperature of combustion gas changes.

  • In this paper, a systematic design of a low phase noise voltage-tuned dielectric resonator oscillator(VTDRO) using loop group delay is proposed. Designed VTDRO is closed-loop type and consists of a cascade connection of a resonator, phase shifter, and amplifier. Firstly, a reference VTDRO is fabricated and its phase noise and electrical frequency tuning range are measured. Both the phase noise and electrical frequency tuning range depend on the loop group delay. Then, a required value of loop group delay for a new VTDRO with a low phase noise can be systematically computed. In addition, its phase noise and electrical frequency tuning range can be theoretically estimated using those obtained from the measurement of the reference VTDRO. When the loop group delay increases, the phase noise decreases and the electrical frequency tuning range also decreases. The former predominantly depends on the resonator structure. Therefore we propose a systematic design procedure of a resonator with high group delay characteristics. The measured loop group delay of the new VTDRO is about 700 nsec. The measured phase noise of the new VTDRO show a state-of-the-art performance of 154.5 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz frequency offset and electrical frequency tuning range of 448 kHz for a voltage change of 0~10V. The oscillation power is about 4.39 dBm.

  • ULF geomagnetic field anomalies related to earthquakes have been reported and a mechnism that magnetic field variations could be generated by the induced telluric current due to the high frequency fluctuation of conductivity in a fault Bone have been proposed. In this study, we calculated electromagnetic anomalies using a simple fault model and investigated the possibility of significant perturbation. Since low frequency electromagnetic fields are modulated by the high frequency oscillation of conductivity and the modulated fields are concentrated in a narrow ULF band, the electromagnetic fields in ULF band could be perturbed significantly. The amplitude of electromagnetic field anomaly depends on various factors: the geometry and conductivity of fault zone, the magnitude and frequency of conductivity fluctuation, the resistivity structure of crust or mantle, the frequency bandwidth of observational data and so on. Therefore, it is strongly required to reveal the deep resistivity structure of crust a.: well ah the structure of fault zone and to ,select the optimal observation frequency band for the observation of electromagnetic activities related with earthquakes.

  • In this study, squeal noise test was conducted by using the lab-scaled brake dynamometer. Squeal conditions with respect to the angle of the brake pads ($34^{\circ}30^{\circ}26^{\circ}$) and negative slope, were studied. Squeal frequency of the In-plane-like mode was confirmed by hammering test and finite element analysis. This Squeal mode was difficult to control by the pad angle variation. Also the squeal sound was found to be periodic signal which has higher harmonic components. Squeal noise is independent of the negative slope. It implies that squeal noise can reach the stick-slip oscillation.

  • Objectives : The study is performed to investigate the influence of psychological stress on neck muscles tone and heart rate variability(HRV). Methods : This study was carried out with the data from stress response index score(SRI), surface electromyography(sEMG) and HRV. First subjects were divided into two group according to the SRI points. Subjects in group A had points of SRI in which lower than 30 points. Subjects in group B had points of SRI in which higher than 30 points. Then we investigated how to difference of the index of sEMG and HRV according to each groups. Results : In this study, the muscle contraction of both upper trapezius muscle in stress group were higher than non-stress group significantly. Complexity, root mean square of successive differences of R-R intervals(RMSSD), standard deviation difference between adjacent normal to normal intervals(SDSD), high frequency oscillation power(Ln(HF)), normalized HF(Norm HF) in stress group were lower than non-stress group significantly and normalized LF(Norm LF) was higher. Conclusions : This results show that the stress was associated with neck muscle condition and autonomic nervous system.

  • Stall stagnations in the system of axial-flow compressors and ducts occur in transition from deep surge conditions to decayed or converged stall conditions. The present study is concerned with the boundaries between the deep surges and the stagnation stalls on the basis of analytical results by a code on surge transients analysis and simulation. The fundamental acoustical-geometrical stagnation boundaries were made clear from examinations of the results on a variety of duct configurations coupled with a nine-stage compressor and a single stage fan. The boundary was found to be formed by three parts, i.e., B- and A-boundaries, and an intermediate zone. The B-boundary occurs for the suction-duct having a length of about a quarter of the wave-length of the first resonance in the case of very short and fat plenum-type delivery duct. On the other hand, the A-boundary occurs for the long and narrow duct-type delivery flow-path having a length about a fifth of the wavelength and relatively small sectional area in the case of short and narrow suction ducts. In addition to this, the reduced surge-cycle frequencies with respect to the duct lengths are observed to have respective limiting values at the stagnation boundaries. The reduced frequency for the B-boundary is related with a limiting value of the Greitzer's B parameter. The tendency and the characteristic features of the related flow behaviors in the neighborhood of the boundaries were also made clearer.

  • Treatments for asthma are largely pharmaceutical, with some therapies also utilising alternative breathing techniques. The objective of both medical and alternative methods is to relax contracted airway smooth muscle (ASM). In normal subjects, tidal breathing- and deep inspiration-oscillations are believed to have a bronchodilatory effect. Similarly, application of length oscillations to isolated, contracted ASM also elicits muscle relaxation. As a means of investigating more-effective alternative treatment methods for contracted airways, we analyse the combined effects of bronchodilators and length oscillations on isolated, contracted ASM. The contractile state of the muscle tissue prior to treatment is of primary interest. Thereafter, the effect of applying a combination of small superimposed length oscillations with tidal breathing-like oscillations to ASM is studied alone and in combination with a common bronchodilator, isoproterenol (ISO). This work suggests that relaxation of isolated, contracted ASM following application of combined oscillations and ISO is larger than treatments of either combined oscillations or ISO alone. Further, the observed oscillation-associated relaxation is found to be amplitude- rather than frequency-dependent. This study gives additional insight into the role of oscillations and bronchodilators on contracted airways.

  • This paper investigated the characteristics of the turbulent incompressible flow past the orifice ring in an axi-symmetric pipe. The flow field was the turbulent pulsatile flow for Reynolds number of $2{\times}10^{5}$ which was defined based on the maximum velocity and the pipe diameter at the inlet, with oscillating frequence $(f_{os})=1/4{\pi}$ which was considered as quasi-steady state frequence. In the present investigation, finite analytic method was used to solve the governing equations in Navier Stokes and turbulent transport formulations. Particularly at high Reynolds number and low oscillation frequency, the effects of orifice ring on the flow were numerically investigated. The separation zone behind the orifice ring during the acceleration phase was found to be decreased. However, during the deceleration phase, the separation behind the orifice ring for pulsatile flow continuously grow to a size even larger than that in steady flow. The pressure drop in steady flow was found to be constant and always positive while for pulsatile flow the pressure drop change with time. And large turbulent kinetic energy, dissipation rate were found to be located in the region where the flow passes through the orifics ring. The maximum turbulent kinetic energy, generally occurs along the shear layer where the velocity gradient is large.
