Background: This study was conducted to provide preventive measure for the musculoskeletal disorders in automobile parts manufacturing workers. Method: The author surveyed to the musculoskeletal symptoms prevalence and its related factors from 10th to 17th April 2011 with structured self administered questionnaires. 223 out of 225 collected questionnaires were used for final analysis, excluding 2 questionnaires with no valid response. Based on the diagnostic criteria of NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational and Health), an investigation was made into the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms as well as into the factors related to individual items. Results: The prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms according to the criteria of NIOSH was the highest in the shoulder (52.9%), followed by the neck (39.%), the hand/wrist (35%), the waist (29.6%), the arm/elbow (24.7%), and the leg/food (23.8%). One-way analysis showed that among general characteristics, age was the musculoskeletal risk factor with the greatest effect. Whereas among work-related characteristics, significant risk factor didn't find. Yet it was shown that among ergonomic work postures, high degree of musculoskeletal risk was shown by the posture involving frequent and repetitive movement of the arm and the hand/wrist and also by the posture involving standing for a long time. Multiple regression analysis showed that musculoskeletal risk was 1.795 times higher in those age 50 and over than in those under age 50; 1.67 times higher in the high risk stress group than in the low risk stress group; and 1.131 higher in the group involving the repetitive use of the hand/arm than in the other groups (p<.05). Conclusion: The prevalence and stress score of automobile parts manufacturing workers were higher than other occupation workers. Among general characteristics, drinking and smoking were shown to be related to stress score; while age was shown to have significant effect on musculoskeletal risk.
Background: This study aims to examine the effects of sling exercise and common exercise on the pain level of various body parts. Methods: This study divided the subjects into a sling-exercise group and a common exercise group to for each group across the measurement times after practicing exercises twice per week for 8 weeks (total 16times). To compare the means of the experimental group and the control group on each variable, the ANOVA for repeated measure was used and if there was any significant difference across the measurement times, post-hoc comparisons were conducted for the difference. The T-tests for group difference according to exercise type on each of the variables showed the results as follows. Results: The results of this study suggest that there were significant difference in pain in shoulder pain, but no significant difference could be found in the Thoracic pain & Knee joint pain. There was no significant difference to distinguish between the sling exercise and the common exercise. Conclusions: Currently the sling exercise is not spread out widely in Korea, so that the recognition and studies of the sling exercise is still lacking. Hence, this study can hopefully facilitate popularity of the sling exercise and systematic prospect studies on it in the near future.
Background: To evaluate the effect of thoracic mobility exercise and deep breathing exercise applied to stroke patients on pulmonary function. Methods: The subjects were divided into two group. Twenty-five patients with stroke were randomly assigned to DB (deep breathing exercise) group (n=13) and TM (combination of deep breathing exercise and thoracic mobility exercise) group (n=12). During four weeks, DB group were carried out deep breathing exercises for 5~10 minutes twice a day and TM Group were carried out deep breathing exercises for 5~10 minutes and thoracic mobility exercise for 20~30 minutes twice a day. All tests were completed before and after experiment. The pulmonary functions were measured by PowerBreathe K5 (Hab International Ltd, England) and tape measure respectively. For each case, the experimental data were obtained in 4 items; average of inspiratory load, inspiratory flow speed, inspiratory flow volume and chest expansion. Results: The results of this study were as follows: 1. In DB group, the statistically significants were shown on average of inspiratory flow speed, inspiratory flow volume and chest expansion (p<.05). 2. In TM group, the statistically significants were shown on all items (p<.05). 3. There was a statistically significant difference on all items between DB group and TM group (p<.05). Conclusions: The above results revealed that DB and TM group can be used to improve pulmonary function in stroke patients. In comparison of DB and TM group, TM group was more improved. In conclude, thoracic mobility exercise helped improving function of vital capacity and chest expansion in stroke patients.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of closed kinetic chain exercise and open kinetic chain exercise in improving the balance of patients with hemiplegia. Methods Ten patients with stroke were randomly allocated to either a closed kinetic chain exercise (CKC) group(n=5) or an open kinetic chain exercise(OKC) group(n=5). The subjects of each group followed the exercise regimen of their respective groups, and each exercise was performed for 50 mins per day, 3 days per week, for 4 weeks. Assessment was made using Berg Balance Scale (BBS), One Leg Standing(OLS) test, and Timed up and go(TUG) test. The 2 groups were assessed twice: before and after the intervention. Results The TUG test score was significantly different in the CKC group between before and after intervention (p<.05); however, there was no such deference in the OKC group (p>.05). Further, the scores of the BBS and OLS tests were not significantly different for the 2 groups between before and after intervention (p>.05). The hanges in these BBS and OLS score were not significantly different(p>.05); however, there was a significant difference in the change in the TUG scores (p<.05). Conclusion On the basis of the results of this study, we found that the closed kinetic chain exercise is more effective in improving the walking ability and dynamic balance in patients with stroke. Future studies are warranted in this regard.
Purpose: An objective analysis and observations were to be done on hemiplegia patients that are wearing a walking support device, Stroke shoes. Their improvements in walking pace, the reduction of distance between the two knee joint, the increase of curve angle of the knee joint and their steps and the reduction of ankle joint upon swing phase were analyzed using a 20 walking analyzer. Methods: An examination was carried out to see the patients' communication skill and independent walking and then let them walk with the Stroke shoes on to get results before and after wearing it. Simi Reality Motion Systems GmbH (Germany, 2007) was used to analyze the results regarding knee joint and ankle joint angle changes of sagitta plane and coronal plane, stepping distances, distances between the knees and walking pace. Results: 1. The articulation angle of ankle joint during swing phase decreased and knee joint has shown a statistically significant increase in such value(p<0.05). 2. Only knee joint showed a significant increase in articulation angle during heel strike(p<0.05). 3. Knee joint showed a significant increase in articulation angle during toe off(p<0.05). 4. The distance between the two knees as well as their foot steps significantly decreased compared with when Stroke shoes were not worn(p<0.05). 5. Stroke shoes with FES have shown positive effects on the patients in improving their walking styles overall. (p<0.05). Conclusion: There was an improvement in rotation walking pattern by a reduction in the distance between the knees after wearing Stroke shoes with FES. Plantar flexion reduced that occurred in ankle joint during walking and flexion angle increased in knee joint, both of which improved foot drop which was a major problem in hemiplegia patients. Also it is believed that the device will have some positive influences on knee joint stiffening paralysis to aid in improving inefficient walking phases.

Torticollis is a deformity of the neck that shows tilting of the head toward the affected side and rotation of the chin toward the opposite side. In many cases with this condition, unilateral tightness of the sternocleidomastoid muscle is found frequently with fibrous tumor. The analysis of 43 cases of congenital muscular torticollis and result of their physical therapy are reported. The research was from Jan. 1, 1990 to Dec. 31, 1995 at Ulsan Dong Kang Hospital. The results obtained were as follows. 1. There were 30 males(69.8%) and 13 females(30.2%). Age distribution of patients showed below 2 month 20 cases(46.5%), above 1 year 7 cases(16.3%), 5~6/11~12 months 4 cases(9.3%), and 7~8 month 2 cases(4.6%). 2. 25 cases(58.1%) were on the right and 18 cases(41.9%) on the left side. Torticollis was mild to moderately severe in mild 22 cases(51.1%), moderate 18 cases (41.9%) and severe 3 cases(7%). 3. There were normal spontaneous delivery in 36 cases(83.7%), Cesaean section in 4 cases(9.3%) and breech presentation in 3 cases(7%). Sequence of birth, the 1st born babys were 30 cases(69.8%) and the 2nd born babys were 13 cases(30.2%). 4. Above fair result of physiotherapy were 36 cases(83.7%). 5. Of the 43 cases with fellow up, above fair 32 cases(74,4%) and poor 11 cases(25.6%) showed. As conclusion, passive stretch exercise of sternocleidomastoid muscle with early torticollis diagnosis seems more successful in recovery than no exercise.

There were the significant relation to the school year the reason of the injury (p<.05). Currently there was the student to be taking special exercises a 57.97%. This that they have the relation with exercise with physical pain students to recognize 23.8%. The significant relation did not exist in the physical exercise execution and pain occurrence on the body(p>.05).
The purpose of this study is compare the effects of two therapeutic processes-i) conservative Myofacial Release Technique along and ii) Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve stimuliation alone - on the increase in the range of motion(ROM) and on the decrease in patient's pain with chronic Neck pain. The subjects of the study were student with choronic neck pain in Daegu health university. Half of them (10) took conservative Myofacial Release Technique along and the others (10) took Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve stimuliation alone. I used 3D Motion analysis. The range of motion (ROM) in six areas-flexion, extension, left lateral flexion, right lateral flexion, left rotation, right rotation-to check the effectiveness of the two combinations of methods, measured pain with visual analogue scale (VAS) to see the effect on pain reduce. Assement was conducted to the groups before the treatment began and affer the four weeks treatment ended. This study shows that both groups demonstrated significant improvement in ROM increase and pain reduction. Flexion ROM increases were significant in MFR and TENS after treatment 2 weeks and 4 weeks. Extension ROM increases were significant in MFR and TENS after treatment 2 weeks. Right rotation ROM was no significant differences were found in MFR and TENS after treatment all weeks. Right lateral flexion ROM increases were significant in MFR and TENS after treatment 3 weeks. Left lateral flexion ROM increases were significant in MFR and TENS after treatment 1 weeks. But the others no significant differences were in MFR group and TENS group during 4 weeks.
Purpose: to apply lymph massage to the patients that contracted lymphedema after mastectomy to resolve blood congestion, stimulate circulation, and control swelling long-term. Methods: The subjects include 20 female patients that were diagnosed with breast cancer histologically and contracted lymphedema within one to two years after mastectomy. They received lymph massage from March to August, 2008. Using a measuring tape(capable of measuring mm), the arm circumference was measured in both the sick and normal arm. Only the data from the sick arm were compared before and after the treatment. The measuring points were five; the back of the hand(a certain distance[about 10cm] was set between the end of the middle finger to the center of the palm), the wrist(the smallest section), the lower arm(at a certain distance[about 10cm] from the internal bending part of the elbow), the elbow(the bending part), and the upper arm(at a certain distance[about 10cm] from the internal bending part of the elbow). Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WINDOWS Version 12.0 program. Results: There was a reduction of lymphedema observed in all the points including 10cm in the upper arm, the elbow, 10cm in the lower arm, the wrist and the back of the hand after lymph massage, and the reduction had statistically significant differences(p<.05). Conclusion: Those results indicate that lymph massage has effects on the reduction of lymphedema in the early patients that contracted it after mastectomy.
