  • Map update is required to provide up-to-date information. In update process, the most adequate generalization is to be applied to all scales of maps simultaneously. Most of existing maps are composed of 2D data and represented in 2D space. However, maps for next generation are to be generated with 3D spatial information including ortho-images and DEMs. Therefore, 3D generalization is necessary for 3D digital map update. This paper proposes methods for 3D generalization and correction for logical errors possibly accompanied with generalization.

  • This study proposes a method to improve the geometric quality of KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite)-3/3A Level 1R imagery, particularly for efficient disaster damage analysis. The proposed method applies a novel grid-based SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) method to the Planetscope ortho-imagery, which solves the inherent limitations in acquiring appropriate optical satellite imagery over disaster areas, and the KOMPSAT-3/3A imagery to extract GCPs (Ground Control Points) required for the RPC (Rational Polynomial Coefficient) bias compensation. In order to validate its effectiveness, the proposed method was applied to the KOMPSAT-3 multispectral image of Gangnueng which includes the April 2019 wildfire, and the KOMPSAT-3A image of Daejeon, which was additionally selected in consideration of the diverse land cover types. The proposed method improved the geometric quality of KOMPSAT-3/3A images by reducing the positioning errors(RMSE: Root Mean Square Error) of the two images from 6.62 pixels to 1.25 pixels for KOMPSAT-3, and from 7.03 pixels to 1.66 pixels for KOMPSAT-3A. Through a visual comparison of the post-disaster KOMPSAT-3 ortho-image of Gangneung and the pre-disaster Planetscope ortho-image, the result showed appropriate geometric quality for wildfire damage analysis. This paper demonstrated the possibility of using Planetscope ortho-images as an alternative to obtain the GCPs for geometric calibration. Furthermore, the proposed method can be applied to various KOMPSAT-3/3A research studies where Planetscope ortho-images can be provided.

  • The objective of this study is to verify the positional accuracy by performing the orthometric corrections on the high resolution satellite images and to analyze the band correlation between the high resolution images corrected with orthometric correction. The objectives also included an analysis on the correlation of NDVI. For the orthometric correction of images from KOMPSAT2 and IKONOS, systematic errors were removed in use of RPC data, and non-planar distortions were corrected with GPS surveying data. Also, by preempting the image points at the same positions within ortho images, a comparison was performed on positional accuracies between image points of each image and GPS surveying points. The comparison was also made on the positional accuracies of image points. between the images. For correlation of band and correlation of NDVI, the descriptive statistics of DN values were acquired for respective bands by adding the Quickbird images and Aerial Photographs undergone through orthometric correction at the time of purchase. As result, from a comparison on positional accuracies of Orthoimages from KOMPSAT2 and Ortho Images of IKONOS was made. From the comparison the distance between the image points within each image and GPS surveying points was identified as 3.41m for KOMPSAT2 and as 1.45m for IKONOS, presenting a difference of 1.96m. Whereas, RMSE between image points was identified as 1.88m. The level of correlation was measured by using Quickbird, KOMPSAT2, IKONOS and Aerial Photographs between inter-image bands and NDVI, showing that there were high levels of correlation between Quickbird and IKONOS identified from all bands as well as from NDVI, except a high level of correlation that was identified between the Aerial Photographs and KOMPSAT2 from Band 2. Low levels of correlation were also identified between Quickbird and Aerial Photographs from Band 1. and between KOMPSAT2 and IKONOS from Band 2 and Band 4, whereas, KOMPSAT2 showed low correlations with Aerial Photographs from Band 3. For NDVI, KOMPSAT2 showed low level of correlations with both of QuickBird and IKONOS.

  • As the need for 3D spatial information increases, many local governments and related industries are establishing map-based 3D spatial information services and offering them to users. In these services, positional accuracy is one of the most important factors determining their applicability to specific tasks. This study studied the location correction method between indoor and outdoor 3D spatial information through the construction of modeling data on a BIM/GIS platform. First, we selected the sites and processed the BIM/GIS data construction with 3 steps. When connecting the BIM model including indoor spatial data and 3D texturing model based on ortho images, mismatches occurred, so we proposed a location correction method. Using the conversion algorithm, the relative coordinate-based BIM data were converted to the absolute positions and then relocated by means of the texturing data on the BIM/GIS platform.

  • It was pointed out that the terrain distortion of SAR image is even worse than that of optical image although SAR imagery has the advantages of being independent of solar illumination and weather conditions. It is thus necessary to correct terrain distortion in SAR image for various application areas to integrate SAR and optical image information. There has to be a clear evaluation of terrain correction of high resolution SAR image according to the quality of DEM because the DEM of study site is generally used in the process of terrain correction. To achieve this issue, this paper compared the effects of quality of Digital Elevation Model(DEM) in the process of terrain correction of high resolution SAR images, using the DEM produced from 1:5000 topographic contour maps, LiDAR DEM, ASTER GDEM, SRTM DEM. We used TerraSAR-X and Cosmo-SkyMed, as the test data set, which are constructed on the same X-band SAR system as KOMPSAT-5. In order to evaluate quantitatively the correction results, we conducted comparative evaluation with the KOMPSAT-2 ortho image of the same region. The evaluation results showed that the DEM produced from 1:5000 topographic contour maps achieved successful results in the terrain correction of SAR image compared with the other DEM data, and the widely used SRTM DEM data in various applications was not suitable for the terrain correction of high resolution SAR images.

  • Background : When surgeons plan mandible ortho surgery for patients with skeletal class III facial asymmetry, they must be consider the exact method of surgery for correction of the facial asymmetry. Three-dimensional (3D) CT imaging is efficient in depicting specific structures in the craniofacial area. It reproduces actual measurements by minimizing errors from patient movement and allows for image magnification. Due to the rapid development of digital image technology and the expansion of treatment range, rapid progress has been made in the study of three-dimensional facial skeleton analysis. The purpose of this study was to conduct 3D CT image comparisons of mandible changes after mandibular surgery in facial asymmetry patients. Materials & methods : This study included 7 patients who underwent 3D CT before and after correction of facial asymmetry in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department of Yeungnam University Hospital between August 2002 and November 2005. Patients included 2 males and 5 females, with ages ranging from 16 years to 30 years (average 21.4 years). Frontal CT images were obtained before and after surgery, and changes in mandible angle and length were measured. Results : When we compared the measurements obtained before and after mandibular surgery in facial asymmetry patients, correction of facial asymmetry was identified on the "after" images. The mean difference between the right and left mandibular angles before mandibular surgery was $7^{\circ}$, whereas after mandibular surgery it was $1.5^{\circ}$. The right and left mandibular length ratios subtracted from 1 was 0.114 before mandibular surgery, while it was 0.036 after mandibular surgery. The differences were analyzed using the nonparametric test and the Wilcoxon signed ranks test (p<0.05). Conclusion: The system that has been developed produces an accurate three-dimensional representation of the skull, upon which individualized surgery of the skull and jaws is easily performed. The system also permits accurate measurement and monitoring of postsurgical changes to the face and jaws through reproducible and noninvasive means.

  • The geometrical parameters, vibrational frequencies, and adiabatic electron affinities (AEAs) for c-$C_nF_{2n}$ (n=8, 9) and $C_{10}F_{18}$ (perfluorodecalin) have been investigated using various quantum mechanical techniques. The possible structures for the neutrals and anions of c-PFA are fully optimized and electron affinities are predicted using energy difference between the neutral and anion. The harmonic vibrational frequencies are also determined and zero-point vibrational energies (ZPVEs) are considered for the better prediction of the electron affinities. The electron affinities are predicted to be 1.18 eV for c-$C_8F_{16}$ (ortho), 1.37 eV for c-$C_9F_{18}$, and 1.38 eV for $C_{10}F_{18}$ (perfluorodecalin) at the MP2 level of theory after ZPVE correction.

  • In this study, the volume of shoreline retreat at sea-cliffs in the Taean peninsula(West Coast of Korea) was estimated and their erosion and seasonal landforms characteristics changes were investigated through multi-temporal aerial photographs and field survey. Based on the analysis of aerial photographs through ortho-correction, the results show that the length of shoreline and erosion area increase as erosion at sea-cliffs occurs in Pado-li and Dundu-li. To obtain the seasonal quantitative landforms changes and retreat of sea-cliffs, we marked top, middle, and bottom datum-points, from which the distance to the nearest bedrock was repeatedly measured. In these regions, the retreat of sea-cliffs gradually increases in spring to summer, but gradually decreases in autumn. In particular, the typhoon that has a great influence on the Korean peninsula in July to September in summer would drastically increase the retreat of sea-cliffs in comparison with other seasons. As the outcrop of sea-cliffs repeats freezing and thawing in winter, the retreat of sea-cliffs increases a little due to active mechanical weathering. To know the erosion and seasonal landforms changes of sea-cliffs, we took pictures of them in every month and then analyze their condition. The retreat of sea-cliffs was repeatedly occurred by the circulation of the erosion of sea-cliff base, landslides, the formation of slope sediment debris and their erosion, in that order.

  • Precision positioning is necessary for various use of high-resolution UAV images. Basically, GCP is used for this purpose, but in case of emergency situations or difficulty in selecting GCPs, the data shall be obtained without GCPs. This study proposed a method of improving positional accuracy for x, y coordinate of UAV based 3 dimensional point cloud data generated without GCPs. Road vector file by the public data (Open Data Portal) was used as reference data for improving location accuracy. The geometric correction of the 2 dimensional ortho-mosaic image was first performed and the transform matrix produced in this process was adopted to apply to the 3 dimensional point cloud data. The straight distance difference of 34.54 m before the correction was reduced to 1.21 m after the correction. By confirming that it is possible to improve the location accuracy of UAV images acquired without GCPs, it is expected to expand the scope of use of 3 dimensional spatial objects generated from point cloud by enabling connection and compatibility with other spatial information data.
