Coupled Simulation of Common Rail Fuel Injection and Combustion Characteristics in a HSDI Diesel Engine (HSDI 디젤엔진의 연료분사계와 연소현상을 연계한 수치해석)

  • In this study, the coupled simulation of fuel injection model and three-dimensional KIVA-3V code was tried to develop an algorism for predicting the effects of varying fuel injection parameter on the characteristics of fuel injection and emissions. The numerical simulations were performed using STAR-CD code in order to calculate the intake air flow, and the combustion characteristics is examined by KIVA-3V code linked with the conditional moment closure(CMC) model to predict mean turbulent reaction rate. Parametric investigation with respect to twelve relevant injection parameters shows that appropriate modification of control chamber orifice diameter, needle valve spring constant and nozzle chamber orifice diameter can significantly reduce NOx and soot emissions. Consequently, it is needed to optimize the fuel injection system to reduce the specific emissions such as NOx and soot.

  • In this study, spray characteristics of the pressure swirl atomizer have teen investigated. Four atomizers with the different orifice diameter and five tangential ports with the different inlet number were fabricated. For the purpose of the measurement of the mean drop sine, Malvern particle sizer was used. And also discharge coefficient was measured and spray cone angle was measured by using shadow graphy method. As a result when the injection pressure was increased, mean drop size was decreased. And the dominant factor which influence on the spray characteristics of pressure swirl atomizer was orifice diameter.

  • The purpose of this study is to bring out the optimal design factors which effect on dynamic characteristics in the design of proportional flow control valve with fast response characteristics, and to verify the validity of the design factors In this study, force feedback type flow control valve with nozzle-flapper is studied. And, the influences which fixed orifice, nozzle diameter, and maximum displacement between nozzle and flapper effect on dynamic characteristics are analyzed. We have done simulations using the optimal design factors and simulink(Matlab) as a simulation tool, and verified the validity of our simulations by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of another similar valve.

A Study on NOx Reduction Mechanism in a Closed Vessel with Opposed Dual Pre-chambers (대향 부연소실이 있는 밀폐연소실 내의 $NO_x$ 저감기구에 대한 연구)

  • It is well known that NOx formation has a strong dependence on the maximum temperature and correspondingly with the maximum chamber pressure of a closed combustion system. However, in a case of impinging-jet-flame (IJF hereafter) combustion with opposed dual pre-chambers, low $NO_x$ formation with high pressure could be achieved, but its mechanism has not been clearly understood so far. In this study, a three-dimensional analysis is adopted to resolve time-variant local properties that might indicate the mechanism of IJF combustion. Numerical results are verified by comparing them with experiments. The IJF combustion in a vessel with no pre-chamber, with single pre-chamber, and with dual pre-chambers is studied. The orifice diameter and the volumetric ratio of pre-chamber are used as geometric parameters. The effects of main-chamber ignition delay time and combustion time of main-chamber, orifice exit velocity, orifice exit temperature, turbulent kinetic energy of main-chamber and spatial distribution of temperature in the latter stage of combustion are investigated. A longer main-chamber ignition delay and a shorter main-chamber combustion time suppress the formation of high temperature region with respect to mean temperature, which consequently results in less NO production.

Anatomic and radiographic studies of the lacrimal drainage system in Korean native goat (한국재래산양 코눈물관계통의 해부학적 및 방사선학적 연구)

  • This study was carried out to identify the gross anatomical and radiographic characteristics of the nasolacrimal system of the Korean native goat. The results were as follows : The nasolacrimal system are composed of two lacrimal ducts, two lacrimal, canaliculus, one lacrimal sac and one nasolacrimal duct. The nasolacrimal duct was divided into proximal, middle and distal portion. The nasolacrimal duct took a straight course to be paralleled with nasal bones and opened close to the nostril on the medial surface of the alar fold. The diameter of lacrimal punctum, the length of eyelid margin to lacrimal punctum, the length of canaliculus and the diameter of lacrimal sac were 0.82~0.90mm, 1.06~1.54mm, 5.65~6.30mm and 1.77~2.06mm, respectively. The length of proximal, middle and distal nasolacrimal duct were 36.84~40.00mm, 23.53~24.31mm and 14.55~14.73mm, respectively. The diameter of the orifice of nasolacrimal duct, the length of lateral margin of nostril to orifice of nasolacrimal duct and the length of dorsum to orifice of nasolacrimal duct were 1.29~1.33mm, 12.97~12.53mm and 15.24~16.11mm. The skull index of Korean native goat was not significantly different from the length of nasolacrimal duct.

  • The response time represents how fast a system responds to a given disturbance at the system boundary. Flow restricting devices for controlling transients can result in a decrease in the peakm pressure, but may change response time. Response lag in a hydraulic system leads to inefficient working cycle and operator discomfort. The experiments were conducted in order to get information on the parameters which exert appreciable influence on the response time. The experimental apparatu including a hydraulic actuator, orifice and a hydraulic pump was an idealization of a bucket hydraulic shifting system. Experimental results show that the response time depends on operating pressure and flow rate. The effects of orifice type and size on the response time are quantified.

  • Hydropneumatic suspension unit is an important part of tracked vehicles to absorb external impact load exerted from the non-paved road and the cannon discharge. Its absorption performance is strongly influenced by both damping and spring forces of the unit. In this paper, we numerically analyze the damping characteristics of the in-arm-type hydropneumatic suspension unit (ISU) by considering four distinct dynamic modes of the ISU damper: jounce-loading, jounce-unloading, rebound-loading and rebound-unloading. The flow rate coefficients determining the oil flow rate through the damper orifice are decided with the help of independent experiments. The wheel reaction force, the flow rate at cracking and the damping energy are parametrically investigated with respect to the orifice diameter and the wheel motion frequency.

  • The combustion process and the performance of a diesel engine are considerably affected by the characteristics of fuel spray. It is known that the spray of swirl nozzle for diesel engine injector of small orifice ratio becomes soft spray that has no core, therefore its penetration, one of the characteristics of spray becomes werse inspite of its good dispersion. In this paper, the spray characteristics of variously designed swirl nozzle for diesel injector were investigated by the photographic method. The nozzles, used in this experiment, vary in the diameter of swirl chambers and orifice ratio. From the results of the study, the sprays of this type nozzle of optimum swirl chamber and orifice ratio show that penetration decreased slightly but dispersion and spray volume increased remarcably, compared with unswirled single hole nozzle of the same size. It was suggested as a reason for the results, that the spray of this type swirl nozzle is similar to hard spray, therefore the core of the spray sustains good penetration considerably.

Effect of Injection Pressure on the Flash Boiling Spray from Simple Orifice Nozzle (인젝터 압력이 단공노즐 감압비등 분무에 미치는 영향)

  • Flash boiling occurs in a couple of modern engineering systems and understanding its mechanism is important. In this experimental study, discharge coefficient of flash boiling spray from simple orifice nozzle was measured, and backlight imaging was acquired at injection pressure to 6.0 bar and temperature to 163℃ for the purpose. Pressurized water by pump was used for working fluid and was heated by electric heater and ejected through simple orifice nozzle diameter of 0.5 mm. High speed camera with long distance microscope was used for backlight imaging in two FoV having magnification of 3.3 and 0.64. The decrease of discharge coefficient according to degree of superheating and evolution of flash boiling spray imaged at various pressure and temperature were explained by the pressure field inside the injector.

A Study on Spray Characteristics according to Design Parameters and Pressure Conditions of Industrial Y-jet Nozzle (산업용 Y-jet 노즐의 설계변수 및 압력 조건에 따른 분무특성에 관한 연구)

  • The Y-jet nozzle has benefits such as simple design and wide operating conditions. Because of these benefits, it is used in various combustion devices including industrial boilers. The most important variables in the design of the Y-jet nozzle are the mixing chamber length, the supply diameter of the liquid fuel and gas, and the exit orifice diameter. In addition, because of the use of a twin-fluid, optimized data is required depending on the spray condition. In this study, spray experiment was carried out under the pressure condition of 7 bar or more, which is the spraying condition used in industry. There was no change in flow rate with the length of the Y-jet nozzle mixing chamber, but the difference in SMD was confirmed. Adjusting the exit orifice diameter is most important to achieve the desired flow rate. Changes in the liquid and gas inlet port diameters ratio were found to be help improve the operating range and significant difference in SMD was observed.
